Xbox 360 HDMI Cable Advice

Hawkamania

CAGiversary!
The title essentially says it all. I'm looking for the best and most affordable HDMI cable that you can buy. I know Microsoft sell's their's for $49.99 (you can get it on Amazon for $39.99), but I was wondering if there were any other more reliable HDMI cables that are more affordable and work just as good, if not better, than the Microsoft manufactured ones.

Any advice, help, examples, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I decided to go with the one that was linked from Amazon above, seemed to have solid reviews.

Thanks everyone for the help!

monoprice FTW...ordered $60 worth of stuff that wouldve ran 200 elsewhere...2 HDMI's included for less than 20 bucks

just today there is a deal at meritline for 3 6' hdmi cables for $7.50, with free shipping, i had to pay tax in california.

The one key difference between the MS HDMI kit and a standard HDMI cable is the dongle that splits the audio off. This is essential for people like myself who have a receiver that requires a toslink cable for digital audio. Most people won't need this, but I paid $27 for the MS package vs $4 for generic HDMI and don't regret it one bit.

There is no such thing as a "generic" HDMI cable.....

If by generic you mean a regular HDMI cable then yes.

Monoprice is where I go for my cables, never regretted it.

As for the optical audio breakout, if you've got an older MS component cable you don't need anymore, you can use that AND any standard HDMI cable. Takes a little surgery of the plastic housing where the component cable connects to the system, but it works (if you're feeling cheap, and this IS CAG after all...)

Pulled from wikipedia:

Generic brands of consumer products (often supermarket goods) are distinguished by the absence of a brand name. It is often inaccurate to describe these products as "lacking a brand name", as they usually are branded, albeit with either the brand of the store in which they are sold or a lesser-known brand name which may not be aggressively advertised to the public.[citation needed] They are identified more by product characteristics.

And this is exactly how I would describe the cables sold by monoprice or meritline. This is not to imply that they aren't any good. I have a bunch of HDMI cables from various vendors. All are just fine. My point being, it was worth $23 to me to get the dongle (and not have to butcher my component cable). Also, you aren't going to find a branded (Sony, MS, Belkin, etc) HDMI cable in a store for $4. You'd have to buy an unbranded (aka generic) HDMI cable online to get one at that price. And that's what I do almost every time.

+1 They work great for my Xbox360. I bought 2 with overnite express. It came the next morning. And that shipping option is cheaper than USPS for me.

Oh... it must be credible.

Anyway... this is the dongle that I needed to pick up so I could use my X41's via Toslink. I paid 6 dollars for it on ebay.

I also picked up 3 HDMI cables on Monoprice for 6 dollars (total).

I love Microsoft but their accessories are the biggest ripoffs ever.

More than likely, all you will need is Ver. 1.3b (current, more readily available standard for the cheap; Ver. 1.4 if the price is reasonable but more than likely, you have nothing electronic or will purchase anything that can use it for the next 3-5 years). Just make sure it's a good length (6' - 12' should do) and shielded (most likely triple shielded from Monoprice).

CAG has a sticky just for Monoprice:

So are you disputing what the definition of generic is, or are you just unhappy that I got my text from Wikipedia?

from Dictionary.com:

6. any product, as a type of food, drug, or cosmetic commonly marketed under a brand name, that is sold in a package without a brand.

Is that better?

Also, glad that you got a used dongle for $6.

I bought a HDMI cable off of monoprice and selected first class shipping (3-5 days) but in the e-mail it said my item wouldn't be shipped until 2/8, which is next friday.

I was curious, does monoprice typically have quick shipping or will I really have to wait 2 weeks from time of purchase to receive my item?
