Because developers can make more money selling you both.
 
I remember seeing that a while back, its definately badass, I bet it could fetch a pretty penny out on eBay. I was I was as nerdy as those guys to be able to build shit like that.

Try using search this is way old. Plus if you made the systems in laptop form you inherit all the concerns of laptops for no reason at all. Lets list them, higher price, lower reliability, higher restrictions on power consumption, less room for adequate cooling, access to older hardware (There isn't a 8800 portable now or at its launch), harder to upgrade or repair components, higher labor costs in manufacturing and many more.
