My Black MS controller that came with my 250 GB Slim a couple years ago seems to be nearing the end of its life, it has some noticable scuffs on it and recently it doesnt hold a charge well at all and consistently disconnects during a game. I just put new batteries in 2 days ago and after only a couple hours play-time its started to say the controller is disconnectiing again. What I'm wondering is if any retailers ever do a good deal on these controllers? Amazon currently has them for $38 new ( http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Glossy-Black/dp/B003ZSP0WW/ref=zg_bs_14220161_10) but I am wondering if they ever go lower. Also, is it possible to do some sort of home repair to the controller itself? I thnk its something to do with the battery cartridge, does a piece of tape around that really work as I've heard some people suggest? Appreciate any replies.

From what I have ever seen there usually isn't a fantastic sale on controllers. I wish they were $19.99!!!
You could buy replacement thumbsticks. They go on real easy. That is really the only thing I've ever noticed going "bad" with a 360 controller. As for those battery packs...get rid of them. It took me a long time to finally do it, but I use rechargeable AA batteries now. I had to dig around and find my old AA battery pack that snaps into the back of the controller, but from what I have noticed after over a year and a half now, they work so much better than the official and unofficial rechargeable packs. Go to Walmart and pick up any of those rechargeable AA bundles that are usually near the front of the stores by the registers. I picked up a Duracell bundle that came with a cool charger and maybe 4 AA batteries too. It charges the batteries in 4 hours, and I've always got 2 extra AA's on deck for my mouse, and my 360 controllers. It also charges AAA's.

Yeah, I should go for rechargeable batteries. I just always have regular AA batteries in my house so it's really convenient. And I think the issue is something with the battery cartridge itself so I don't think rechargeable batteries will fully help with that sadly.

If you dont mind buying wired, Newegg has them for $29.99 and even drops them to $26.99 from time to time.

If you're not too picky about buying them brand new, try cowboom.com. I bid on a wired controller and got it for a little under $20. I got it today and its in great condition! Looks and feels almost brand new. It also doubles as a PC controller
