Xbox 360 Or Ds Lite?

I already own an (old school) Xbox which I still play a lot and games are getting cheaper, and am debating if I should get an Xbox 360 or a DS Lite next week? It's a tough choice!!!!! WHERE should I put my $$$. ?????:bouncy:

That's like comparing apples to oranges. They are 2 completely different systems with completely different games.

I'd say if you have an HDTV and enjoy FPS or lots of online play then get a 360. If you plan to play a lot on the go and prefer more offbeat games and platformers or if money is tight then get a DS lite.

Yeah this is a tough comparison. Do you want to spend the $299 or $399, or would you be more comfortable just spending $129 (or whatever it is).

The DS for $129 is a GREAT deal in terms of overall value for your dollar. You really can't go wrong either way as they are both really good systems, just depends on what you are looking for.

Go for the DS Lite. It's the most fun I've had with a videogame system in many years. And it's cheaper, so you can get a system and a few games and have it still be less than the price of just the 360 hardware. And there's the fact that it's rumored that there will be a 360 price drop early next year so if you're going to get one you might as well hold out a few months and save some money.

I love them both dearly. I will only say that you cannot go wrong either way. These currently do form the best console/handheld combo for the vast majority of gaming tastes. Flip a coin and plan on getting the 'loser' of the flip as soon as financially feasible.

Agreed. Sounds like the best plan.

The DS would be obviously a better economic decision but it really depends on what type of games your looking for. Both are great and provide different experiences. You can't go wrong either way. I got a 360 first and eventually bought a DS light.

I would say DS Lite now, then 360 later in the new year. With all the rumors that there might be internal improvements or a more efficient 360 manufacturing, you might want to wait and see if they dont actually make it more silent and cooler during operation. I can't see them redesigning the DS again.

So this is coming from a person who wants a 360 badly and has a DS. First off are you going to trade in the original X-box, because once that is gone, only a limited number of original x-box games will be avaiable to play on the 360. So if you got a lot of x-box games you want to play, then maybe wait for the 360. Also if you are trading in the x-box shop around for deals (check the Gamecrazy after christmas thread) for killer tradein deals for the 360. If you are not trading in the original for the 360, I would say wait. Sure the x-box 360 has some nice games around, but they are making a newer version of the machine (that is supposed to be less hot and cheaper to manufacture), and maybe a price drop could come around sometime.

So if you find a trade in deal for the 360, or you decide you want one that bad, get it now, otherwise wait a while. The DS Lite is $130 and games are $35, which is pretty cheap, and sometime this year the 360 should drop in price and games will drop too making it all worth the wait.

The 360 is LOUUUUUUD. Reliability is questionable...

but other than that they both have tons of great games, and tons of great games coming, so just go with whatever one has more games you want to play (or if you need your games portable, problem solved, get the DS).

Of course it's tough to compare a $400 system with a $130 one. You can buy a DS for less than the price of three years of Live service on the 360.

I own both, and I can tell you that the 360 has me up playing Gears of War until 3:00 in the morning (just finished!). The DS is great, but the 360 is the ultimate gaming platform at the moment.

Eh, just personal preference. For me personally I'd rank the 360 probably 5th as of right now for games I want to play.

It is sort of like comparing an ostrich to a duck though. They're two totally different beasts even though they both play video games.

Why do people quote MSRP on CAG? I've seen Xbox Live Gold Packs for $20 and Gold Vision Packs for $40. I haven't seen a DS Lite for under $110.

I'd make a list of all the games for each system you care about and try to decide from there. Make sure to include games coming out as well. I personaly had a DS (regular, not Lite) from September of last year until April of this year, I got bored of it. The only game I ever played much was Kirby Canvas Curse.

It really just comes down to whether gaming on the go is important to you, since both have great games. How much do you value being able to take your games wherever you're going?

Wow! What the hell do you play?

PS2, DS/GBA, PSP, PC, Wii or PS3 games apparently.

If you have an HDTV get the 360. It really is "next-gen" and it will blow you away. The DS is an awesome little system but you can pick that up on a whim in a month or two since it's so cheap. I'd buy the 360, Gears of War, Viva Pinata and Burnout: Revenge and as soon as you get home download Geometry Wars: Evolved. No regrets.

I like the 360, but it's currently my 5th choice for gaming at the moment (too many shooters and not enough appealing games to me yet. Plus, I lack an HDTV). I prefer playing PS2/PSP/DS/GBA.

I say DS Lite. DS is really awesome and lots of fun.

Yeah, that's pretty much my list too. PSP, PS2, DS, and PC in my case. Counting the GBA as a different system, I guess it would probably be below the 360 for me now (since it's pretty close to being dead and most games that would have been on it are on the DS now).
so nobody here's a ps3 fan?
I'm one of the biggest ones here (well, Sony supporter that is). There aren't many of them here, so I mostly discuss PS3 stuff on a PS3 forum. Plus, the OP wasn't asking for a PS3.

I thought Tales of Phantasia would be my last game for the year, but FFV Advance, Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1 & 2, Super Robot Taisen OG 1 & 2, and Yggdra Union, along with all the Player's Choices added (especially Mario Kart Super Circuit, which I still haven't bought yet) changed my mind and caused me to play GBA much more than I thought. After FFVI Advance next year, it will die off and a next generation console will replace it as my fourth most played platform (either PS3 or 360).

Why don't you post that deal then, cuz I haven't seen that price anywhere..

Long term I think the PS3 is going to be better than the 360, and I love how it has real backwards compatibility and is QUIET-both very big deals in my book. But for right now this second the 360 has a better library than the PS3 and Wii, so that's why I'd rate it above those two (for now).

How are those Super Robot games for people who like SIMPLE strategy and SRPGs like Shining Force 2, Dragon Force, and Advance Wars, but hate Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem? I've been very interested in those, but I'm leary-I think they'd get too hard.

I've been really surprised too by Atlus' stuff. I thought the system was totally dead, but it still has some games hitting both it and the DS (like Scurge) and Atlus has been putting out more interesting looking RPGs now than ever.
