XBOX 360 Overheating Issues

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post something like this but I've got a question regarding the 2x Red Ring error, which from what I looked up is caused by overheating. It's the error with the two flashing half circles in the first and 3rd player controller slots on the LED.

I got the first 2x red ring crash about a month ago randomly, and since then it has been happening more and more often. Basically when I turn on my Xbox for the first time on a given day it will run for about 5 minutes and then shutdown give me the 2x Red Rings, once I let the fans shut off and turn it off then turn it back on it's fine for the rest of the time that I play.

However, every time I take a break turn it off and then start playing again later on I will get the crash/restart and then it will be fine.

Obviously it's not a huge problem to have to restart it once and then be able to play as long as I want, but I don't know if it's good for the console and could lead to more problems, and if it's worth sending in to get fixed.

I've tried all the "tips" microsoft gives to stop overheating, I've got it on an elevated open surface and such so I don't think that's the problem. I've already had to send this console in once before for the regular RROD, but never had this problem till a few weeks ago.

Anway I figured I'd ask here because usually when I call Microsoft themselves I get someone who doesn't know what they're talking about, gives me bad instructions, and sometimes doesn't even understand the problem I'm having.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance. Any input would be appreciated.

Overheating sounds like the problem, but the cause could be any number of things - e.g. a faulty fan, poor heatsink contact, or dust clogging up the system. Unless you're willing to void warranty and have a poke around inside, getting Microsoft to repair the console is really your only option. (Unless you wanted to give a Nyko Intercooler a try to push more air through, at the cost of making your 360 even louder.)

Thanks for the quick response.

I guess I'll have to do send it in then, as I've already done the whole voiding warranty thing with some of my other consoles in the past, and ended up regretting it in the long run.
