Earlier today, we received a nice little tidbit in an e-mail regarding the 360. As is already known, there will be two packages ready in the fall.

One consists of the bare, basic console, controller, cables, etc. It will retail for the standard $299.99 USD.

The other contains the 360, controller(s?), remote, and the HDD (with extra content). We couldn't get a comment on the chance of this package having the camera bundled. This will retail for the bargin, and fairly uninspired, price of $360 USD.

See what they did there? Xbox 360, $360. Cute.

Sounds plausible enough. :applause: Hopefully this is correct.
If it ships for $299, it will make everyone (including me) who bought a PSP look kinda dumb.
Will? Trust me, you already do. :)

If it makes you feel better I think the same for the people who bought a DS and then bitch there are no games for it.

Were you expecting a higher price?

I doubt it will be 360... either 350 or 300. Hopefully i can convince the rents to get me the bare bone one for xmas, although i might add some of my own money if the extras are worth it.

Crap! This sucks. This means if there are any games I really want (which didn't happen this gen with the Xbox) and I have the extra cash, I am going to have to get one... Oh well. Nintendo will probably dissuade me in a week though. We'll see...

fuck that I'm too used to paying $100 - $250 for consoles. $360 sounds like a shitload of money to spend on video games to me, maybe if it's backwards compatible.

$360 is good for me. I saw something on another message board about 2 versions of live as well...something like the silver version is free, and will allow you to DL content, as well as play on the weekends in multiplayer games for free. You will not be able to play multiplayer games during the week. The Gold version will allow you to play online anytime..Their was no info on pricing, except that the silver is free. We will find out either this thursday, or early next week

I thought the Xbox 360 with the HD bundle was going to retail for $399. It would be great if the actual price really is $360!...

Man if the one with the HD launches as $360 I may actually buy a Xbox360 at launch. $400 I wasn't going to, but at $360 thats very tempting. And if Dead or Alive 4 is among the launch titles, I'm sold.

HAHA, I get it, $360....because the system is called xbox 360....and its gonna cost $360....and it's called xbox 360...and....oh nevermind.

If the HD version does in fact come with Halo 2.5 already installed, then I'm sold.

BTW that Live plan sounds pretty sweet. If it comes to pass it could really open up the online community (which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it).

I hope EB does the midnight thing again like they did with Halo 2. Though, I'd also expect to be mugged on the way out the door.

$360 sounds good. Sounds much better than $400.

Where did you get that info?...

Anyway, now I wish Microsoft's new console is called the Xbox 150=$150...;)

honestly, the difference of $40 when you're paying that much already to me isnt all that important. the thing that is going to ge me to preorder a launch one is the backwards compatibility

It doesn't really matter. This is the only thing I expect to get this Christmas, so I don't really have to worry about price.

Wow, just the other night I was thinking, "The HD add-on really shouldn't jump the price an entire c-note; it really oughtta be in the $350 range, to which I would adopt immediately," and here it is. Time to start saving up I suppose.

Suddenly nobody's cheap when a new consoles is released? $300 is a lot of money, and since I don't know of a single launch game, let alone one I must have, I'm not going to be in line for 360.

Well everyone is speculating that Halo 3, Project Gotham 3, Burnout 4 and Madden will all be released for 360.

The question is, what will you be able to do with the Cheaper Xbox 360 that cost $299? If it has no hard drive and the other model does you won't be able to download content. Seems like a dead version of the console to me.
It's a steal at $360.
Yes, and I'm sure you'll be able to purchase new games for it at the everyday low price of $59.99 as well :D What a bargain! Heck, it's a steal!

Oh yes...and there really is conrcete evidence of $60 games and the price of teh console.

I bet you can download some content to a memory card.

Yeah, i'd definately carry a knife or some other weapon with me when getting one of these, you'll definately have a good chance of being mugged for one of these.

It was a pretty prominate rumor earlier this year. There's prob no truth to it, but it would make the 360 just that more enticing :)

The differene is, that you just have to slap on an extra $10-$20, as well as the tax, to get a game with the system. If I have the money saved up, I will go to my K-Mart(yes K-Mart is the only "department" in my POS town, but thats another story) the day it is released and let the fun begin.

For all those saying that it has a high price tag, keep in mind the current rumours:

a camera
a headset
dvr capabilities
tivo capabilities
downloadable content
backwards compatibility
wireless capabilities

Add all that on to the typical $300 a first generation xbox cost when it first came out, and I'd say it is a definite deal.

On a side note I'm expecting a 360, 4 controllers, and a game with all the money I get from my birthday (mid-November) and christmas. fucking awesome.

Only a small fraction of Xbox owners are Live users or purchasers of magazines offering content add-ons via an included DVD. Nor do the Exhibition discs sell in mammoth numbers. So apparently most Xbox users aren't crying themselves to sleep at night for lack of that added content. It's great for those who care and offers a lot of added revenue potential but the lack of it hardly cripples the entry level system.

The buyers of the cheaper model will always have the option of upgrading later. Keeping that entry level price down as low as possible is critical.

Give up on the DVR stuff. It simply isn't practical and isn't going to happen. At best you'll be able to connect remotely to Windows Media Center systems to display content on the screen connected to the console.

Is there a difference between DVR capabilities and Tivo capabilities?
Is there a difference between DVR capabilities and Tivo capabilities?
One is a generic reference to a whole category of devices while the other is a brand name that includes proprietary software involving a number of patents.

What they have in common is that neither will be a factor in Xbox 360.
$360.. not bad. It'll be mine.
yea boyeeee . i been calling to reserve this all month . im a sucker for a new system . i will have this paid for before it launches put like a $100.00 a month down till release . and I do not regret my psp purchase regardless of $360.00 bucks and add a $50.00 $150.00 bucks for launch titles. In this day and age I must own both systems even though I lean towards sony as a my brand for games. but sh#@ I use to buy $200.00 jordan shoes that just collect dust in my closet now video games are a cheaper addiction and way more fun

$360 is a tight price, even tighter if its backwards and comes with the rumored Halo 2.5 or one game, that allows me to get 2 games and one tight launch system for $400. I was gonna set aside $600 for this people, I'm not cheap when it comes to consoles and launch titles. Cause we all know 6 months to a year down the road we'll be able to get used games for the cheap ;)

I doubt Halo 3 for launch... I mean come on... it took them 3 year to make the 2nd game...

If we are lucky we will just get just an updated Halo 2 version... 2.5?

basically the same game, with graphic upgrade & and some new Multiplayer maps & weapons...

Either way, I'm willing to throw down $500 on the day of the launch...

XBOX 360 w/ HD & atleast 3 games....

Its all but confirmed that there will be a version of Halo 2 with updated graphics, that you can play online against people with the regular version. Don't know if its included or not, would be nice if it was.

What I find interesting is that there is absolutely no word on backwards compatibility.

Guys, you won't be able to buy an extra game for $400. 1.) You have taxes. Depending on your state, you will probably pay anywhere from $25-$30 in taxes. That makes the price $385-$390. Some who hadn't thought of this might argue that that isn't much money, but everyone is reveling over it possibly being $40 less than they had thought. 2.) Supposedly, Xbox 360 (that is still the stupidest name ever) games are going to retail at $59.99. With taxes, this makes the system package and one game $450. Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade and if you want the system, by all means, get one. But I don't want your pipedreams to disappoint you when you are waiting in line to buy a system and three games for $500, But it turns out that two games will cost you $515 or so.

That all said, I am tempted to say that I want to get one as well. But I'm sure that if I can only afford one at launch, after E3 I won't be wanting the 360 (stupid, stupid name...).

It's getting harder and harder to justify all of these purchases... $500 to get up and running with a few games takes you right out of casual to either hardcore or money to burn... $200 for the DS, $300 for the PSP, $500 for the 360, then the PS3 then the Revolution... It's MADNESS!!!!

Yeah, $500 is a lot....it may cost more than that if you want a 2nd controller. Of course, this is MORE than just a game system (although that is all I would use it for...already have DVR) I guess if I can stream music from my PC to my XBOX, that would be neat for parties.

Revolution will likely be between the cost of the DS and PSP. But I'm not sure how Sony is going to handle the $299/360 pricepoint... Yes, it is madness. Just like the launch price of the 3DO, PS1, PS2, XBX and Saturn. There definitely is a limit that widespread consumers will pay. 3DO and Sega found that price (and ultimately paid the price). It seems that M$ will probably stay below such a price, as will Nintendo. But where does that leave Sony's supposed technologically outrageous machine?

I already have a DS, and PSP which I've spent well over $700 on (systems, games, extras). I do plan on getting one of the big three consoles at launch, but I'm definitely not going to purchase it without seeing them all first. I'm waiting until all three are released before I buy. Especially since what I keep hearing about the Xbox 360 being less powerful than the PS3, and the Revolution.

It seems to me that the Xbox 360 will look nice coming out of the gate first, but in the end it's going to be blown away by the PS3, and Revolution. It's going to end up looking like what I think it really is.... the Xbox 1.5. The one thing that would make me break down, and buy an Xbox 360 within a year of it's launch is backwards compatiblity.
