Xbox 360 Refurb @ CompUSA for $169.00

^^^ dont think so, just what the store gives you.

or maybe you get a 90 day manufacture's warranty. Whatever it is its very limited on refurbs.

Two friends of mine bought refurbished 360's from large electronics chains.... DONT DO IT. Both systems red ringed! Microsoft doesnt offer a warranty for refurbished systems so if you want Microsoft to fix the system a friend of mine had to pay $150. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Just save your money and buy a new Xbox from amazon.

Also there is a rumor the Arcade unit new will drop to $200 next month. Not meaning to be mean to the op as it is a deal, but as others have said, the LAST piece of electronics I would purchase refurbished would be an XBox 360.

If you look it over its a 2 month warranty parts and labor...so I will have to pass.

Don't do it for the following reasons.

1) Refurbs are only covered by their stores warranty, so that's probably 90 days.
2) If it died on you, It's actually $100 (not $150) to repair any 360 out of warranty right now.
3) Doing the math you could spend $270, which suprise, is the cost of the current Arcade console, and with that you'll get a NEW system with a three year warranty, not to mention less likely to RROD.
4) To top it off theres a rumor on 9/7/08 that Arcades will hit $200.

All these reasons plus it definitely pays to get a newer model with a Falcon chip, which the refurbs likely do not have.

I thought there was a newer newer chipset, called Whistler or some such nonsense, which is supposed to be even better.

In regards to the Arcade dropping to $200, what about the Pros and Elites - $450 for an Elite is a monster ripoff, I wish the damn thing would drop to a reasonable price and I would finally jump on a 360.

Elites aren't going to drop much. You missed your chance with the dell.com deal which was $300.

The newer chipset/revision is called the Jasper, which probably won't hit stores till December or later, granted they are supposed to be in production by the end of August. Yeah It's not a huge revision, but I'm sure any new revision has less chances of RROD. I would say re-furb/launch units have a 50% chance, if not better, to RROD. I gather that from all the posts here on CAG's RROD topic, posts online, and the fact that my cities UPS store gets about 15 "coffins" a week.
