Xbox 360 to have its own Miis as "Avatars" - Update: Also now to have its own "Home"

One solution for the old gamerpics: your avatar can wear them as a virtual "iron on" their t-shirt.

Plus, they'd still be relevant for older games that are not compatible with the avatars.

That actually makes a lot of sense. It would also be cool if they let you use achievement icons as shirt irons. Then you can really flaunt your achievements.
"Oh God why?" ...I say good, maybe they'll be better then Nintendo's under-developed, over-simplified "Miis." Miis are a great idea, but Nintendo didn't give enough options.... then again they do that with everything lately.
Bad enough they don't let you use them for very many games. Bad enough they tell third party developers "absolutely not" when they ask Nintendo if they can allow Miis to be used in their games.
You really can't say that it's a complete rip off yet.
Miis are only used in the Wii ___ series (Sports, Play, Fit). They appear in a few games (both first party and third)...but they aren't used a lot.

I can't imagine MS putting out a game where you play as your avatar.
Should we imagine that NEXT christmas we'll see a MS version of Wii Fit? :whistle2:\

This excites me for the NEXT gen. Most likely, I can see Sony & MS going the Wii route. But, the way the Wii SHOULD have gone: HD + actual HDD space
...No.

come on they can't phase out gamerpics espicially because there is so many of them. Maybe they will reside on the shirt of the Avatar? Well i like the idea but I kinda love my gamerpics
It's just scary at times how easy it is to see how companies leech off other's ideas.
I'm sorry, but why is that scary? Given the slight amount of info we have, they aren't leeching off an idea, but building off one. Like it's been said a few times, avatars have been around before Nintendo took "ten years" to make the Mii. Incorporating them into a console may have originally been Nintendo's idea, but they've done a piss poor job at it.

I'm kind of torn really. Half of me doesn't want to have the avatar things thrust into everything like they are on the Wii, and the other side wants to be first in line to get a pair of Psychonaut goggles and a GoW Lancer.

All I ask is that they give us a way to keep using Gamerpics on our gamercards and don't have to mess with it unless we want to.

Thank god that will never happen.
Is it just me, or do they look remarkably like rejected characters from the Hot Shots Golf series? I assume they'll just have some generic crap for free and then we can buy whatever else we want.
EXACTLY what I thought. I had to make sure I wasn't in a ps3 thread because I thought I might've opened the hot shots golf thread instead.

I enjoyed making miis at first, so I would probably have a little fun with this depending how much/if they charge.
Alright! 200 MS points for a shirt for you avatar! 150 for pants!
I suppose they are making little money with gamerpics, and feel they can apply microtransactions and that people would gobble it up. People do love their personalization, after all.

If I can recreate Motoko Kusanagi, I'll be fine, as she's my present gamerpic.

I don't see anything wrong with Microsoft giving its users more ways to customize the way they represent.

But please, don't force us to use them. Let them be optional.

Please be fake. Please be fake. Please be fake.

These are completely useless. What's the point in having avatars? I think the Gamerpic is fine enough. I favor the 360 this gen because the Wii's target audience for Miis misses me. I found the 360 as more of a serious console and I liked it. It felt fitting. But now Microsoft is going with avatars? What's going to happen next? I think video gaming is going the wrong way by going casual...

P.S. I love my Dr. Pepper gamer pic and I would hate to lose it to something like this...

I hope this is out in time for Gears of War 2. I can't wait to jump into somebody's co-op campaign as a buxom blonde wearing high heels.

Ugh.

Oh, the industry we could have if all the energy spent trying to play catch-up with some other guy's ideas was instead spent on trying to do something new.

crazy update... now it's a bit too blatant that Microsoft is intentionally ripping off the competition. Somehow this reminds me of the days of the "Coke-Pepsi Wars"

A console is only as serious as you take it. While it is nice to feel that a product is being catered to you, truth of the matter is the wider the audience, the more games/high quality games you will see and so it will only benefit you.

Now I'm not saying im sold on this avatar idea, or that it will make the console better...but I'm just pointing out that this wont change all the great stuff you like about the 360/360 games now and may even prove to have a positive effect in the long run.

Yeah they are, but no worse than Sony with its Achievement and Wiimote rip off. They're both at it, Ninty is the only company who really seems to innovate.

Frankly Wii's and Home I can easily live without, making Live more robust should be a higher priority.

I'd rather have Sony and MS ripping each other off than have a horrible online integration and weak features.

True, I guess decent online is something they should rip off.

I'm an old man and I want my Gamerpics and my Blades and nothin' else to muck it all up! It's just fine the way it is!

(No, seriously, I'd better have a choice here. And I don't like the emphasis on pandering to people who just happened to suddenly find gaming acceptable in the last year-and-a-half due to the accessibility of a certain console. Which is not to say that everyone that likes that console is a frontrunner. So just...just...put the flamethrower down, son.)
