Tomorrow Target's going to have temporary price cuts on the X-Box games Breakdown (19.99) and Tench 29.99. Also, for PS2 Conflict Desert Storm 2 & Midnight Club 2 are both going to be 29.99. The cut is good until the end of May

Sounds like someone got PWNED!!!11!!!eleven!!
See, I'd agree with that, except for the fact that the last series of battles directly plays against everything the game does well, and exploits everything the game does badly. Fighting multiple opponents in Breakdown is hard not because it's complicated to block attacks not directly in front of you, but because it's *impossible* to do so. So, when you get a pair of the really fast, really strong enemies circling around you, so you have one on each side, the only option is to run. You can't block them when they're in that configuration. And if one hits you, then they keep alternating hits, you're dead, and can't do anything about it. Period.

That's not difficult, that's poor design. It's not challenging, it's stupid. Seriously, I understand that some people are just masochistic, and find that sort of thing to be fun, but given how reasonably the rest of the game was designed, it's simply an issue of the designers saying "yeah, we couldn't think of anything really honstly difficult to do, so screw you, here's something that will exploit all the stupid s**t we couldn't get right with the hand-to-hand combat!"

It's just not fun. It's not well designed, it's not well thought out, and it's only challenging because the mechanics of the game are as poor as they are.

If that's pwnage, then I've been pwned. But I'd say that Namco screwed up big with this game by including such a horribly designed series of battles.

Helava, I was just jerkin' yer chain. I've heard others say the last few battles are a bitch. Never finished the game due to all the other games flowing in, so I can't commiserate.

Yet.

Picked it up in Jacksonville, FL Target for $19.99. It was marked at that price and the clerk exclaimed that it "must be a typo" but yet it magically rang up at $19.99. Sweet Deal. Thx.

Thanks for posting the deal Raiden. I did not expect to pick up Breakdown for some time, but grabbed it today for $19.99. I'll be playinig this as soon as I finish XIII. Awesome.

I figured as much. Still, just wanted ot make it 100% clear what a horrific failure of common sense game design Breakdown is. It's got a great story, and is really well-presented, but damn, it's a failure of monumental proportions.
anyone know how long this deal is going for? I wont be able to pick it up for another week.
Stop being so lazy and clicking "Post Reply" when you could very easily read this thread and find your answer. It's been stated several times.

I live in Virginia and it was still priced at full price locked up in the game case. I asked an employee to check the price, and it was $19.99. Do yourself a favor and go back to check this out. This game is well worth the $20.

I went to Target on 4/20 in case this was a "one day" thing. The price for Breakdown had been removed completely, there was no tag for it on the shelf it was on. I had an employee check the price... $19.99. I only got to do the training part as I got home late and had to go to bed but I want to sincerely thank CAG and the originator of this post for one helluva bargain. I love this site! WOOOHOOO :D :D :D :D :D

Happy to help.

Almost got this on a PM at Best Buy last night (popped by Target first and they did have copies in stock - even labelled at $20) but opted to pick up Rogue Ops for $5 instead.

If I didn't have 5 or so games waiting to be played it might have been a different story.

I was just at target today and saw it. The guy price matched it at best buy and I got it for $17.99 (shoulda been $16.99 with the 10% the difference thing).
How did you get them to price match? Did they call up Target?

Jeremy
Yeah, they called Target.

I should've tried the GGC *doh!*

I have 20 bucks in my wallet right now but I kinda wanted to save it for the Last Samurai DVD coming out in a few weeks. Tempting... but I think I will pass. I am more of a movie fanatic then a video game one.

Just picked one up at the Hackensack, NJ Target. They had about 5 left for anyone interested. Thanks for the deal. BTW I would like to state that this is the first Target deal that my Target actually had. Normally they never have any of these sales I keep hearing about.

amen Helava. Bought Breakdown yesterday... and preceded to get gang banged repeatedly by two thugs in the burning hallway. WTF. Any suggestions besides just running?

yeah I kept getting rocked there too for a bit....you have to be quick and use the guard technique and the backflip. Also, using your uppercut and highkick knocks them way backwards and that keeps them from ganging up on you. Most of all stay out of the fire, you'll die 5 times faster is you don't.

The best way to approach every enemy I have found is to slide tackle them first (run towards them and when close press L + R) and then press R to do an uppercut as you are getting up. I get them all the time with this.

Thanks for posting Raiden! I picked up Breakdown yesterday. The tag still said $50, but I asked the guy to check it and it came up $20!

This was at the Target on Bird Rd and the Palmetto. There were 2 copies left yesterday.

I finally found enough money around the house to buy the game today at my Target.(Lakewood,CA)

I also saw RVD in his comic shop, didnt get an autograph tho.

well I know that Gamestop gives like 18 bucks credit for this, and EBworld.com gives 22. It should be about the same at other places, you can buy it and if it's not your type of game you can sell it at very little loss.

Anyone know if you'd be able to get a raincheck on Breakdown if it was sold out? I have no interest in the game but getting a 60% off raincheck would be sweet. The Target I looked at last night had a full row of copies. Maybe the game is so crappy it won't even sell out at $20.

I used a 47% off raincheck no problem. Its YMMV though since normally they don't allow rainchecks on already reduced items.
