I just bought an official communicator (new), and it doesn't seem to be doing ANYTHING. The light for the mute button works, it turns green/red when pressed, but I hear NOTHING in the 2 games I have: Halo 2 and DOA:U. I've messed with volume to no avail.

I've noticed in Halo 2, the lil pic next to my name when it's matchmaking is still a box with a speaker in it, not the speaker by itself that everyone else seems to have. I've messed with the "voice output" options to make it "communicator only", or "mixed" and nothing changed. I have pressed the white button (and pressed up on the control pad) to try to test the mic, but nothing happens.

I also could never get voice to play through my TV, even when I set voice output to "speaker only". Only twice did I hear voices for a spilt second when I just entered a CAG clan party, but it cut off as soon as I entered. Sorry for this being a long bitch basically, I'm just wondering what's up. Does my using a 2 month trial have anything to do with it (cause I noticed on the Xbox Live menu, for "voice chat", it says something about an account could be "voice banned")? Gaahhh @_@

Happy New Year!

It's the OFFICIAL Microsoft communicator. It must be plugged in right, I push it in as fasr as it goes, and the light works, so...

All I'm wondering is if there is some option I;m overlooking to "activate" it. With it plugged in and everything, I can't even hear anything, it doesn't seem to register with the system. I have tried it with the S-controller, and the old big one, same thing on both.

Could always be a defective headset. Call 1-800-4my-xbox and they'll troubleshoot the problem some before most likely arranging for a replacement.
oops.. of course if still have the receipt just exchange it.
Yeah I got the receipt. Godammit tho, that Best Buy's a bit outta the way and the return lines were huge today when I went. Ah well, was hopin to start playin for real on the CAG clan (its such a bitch bein silent, specially when shit goes wrong).

Thanks.

*EDIT* Nevermind, I misread some of what you wrote, ignore whatever is below.

You have the headset with it right? Not just the connector/communicator unit thingy right?

Yeah it's the lil module you stick in the controller, and the headset/mic you put on your head and plug into the module. The whole not even being able to hear voices from my TV speakers annoys me, but I guess that's they way it'll be...Oh, and how do you send TEXT messeages on Halo 2? When I go to "Send message", the right side is blank and it makes a lil error "beep" when i just try to "Send". Ah, lil annoyances...

You have to edit the message then send, I did that a couple times too before I realized what I had to do.

How I figured out the problem:

I read online (via google) about an option for XBL accounts to turn voices on/off. I went in and it was OFF, so i turned it on, and voila! Thanks for your guys' suggestions/help though!
