• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

They could still sell digital versions of old games and people would buy them without having to remaster them. They did it on the PS3 and Vita.

Was really hoping PS5 would at least be PS3 backwards compatible ... guess I’m never playing Tokyo Jungle again .

My bigger issue is how the hell is launch less than 3 months away and we have no clear idea of what these next gen consoles offer or a clear idea of the launch lineup. I direct this more at PS5 than Series X, since we know that won’t have any exclusives and will be fully backwards compatible. But what the hell is Sony thinking? They want me to spend $600 on a preorder (my guess) for the disc system and I don’t even know if my PSN purchases and PS+ account will carry over. I’m pretty annoyed with the bullshit leading into this new generation, it’s completely unnecessary.

They may well be doing that. With the gamepass ultimate model to go on, they'd be stupid not to. However, this feels very similar to the PS3 launch, and Sony gonna Sony, so who knows. A product info page from Ubisoft about next gen upgrades confirms the PS5 will have no BC beyond 'compatible PS4 games.' Unsurprising, but an enormous disappointment. Between that, the lack of pricing, and various game delays, I'm in full backlog mode right now.

I'm just finishing up Shadow of the Tomb Raider - great game, and a nice end to the trilogy. The only frustrating thing is that the game boots you back to the main menu every time you suspend the Xbox, for absolutely no good reason.

They could still sell digital versions of old games and people would buy them without having to remaster them. They did it on the PS3 and Vita.

I'm guessing Sony has figured it's not worth the trouble of figuring out who owns all those old games in order to make them available digitally. PS1 alone had 3000+ games, many from companies who don't exist anymore. That might also be why there are so few Xbox Originals available for BC.

I can't imagine the shit show their request page would be if they did it the same way Microsoft did 360 BC.

I've noticed that this happens a lot, specifically / primarily with games released in the last two years. It's not an all-the-time problem, but newer games seem to not like sleep mode and it's super annoying. Has anyone else had this problem?

Once in awhile it's related to profiles - it says your profile was signed out so it sent you back to the starting screen, but at least then it's giving you an explanation.

I think the Series S is a great idea, as long as it's cheaper than the digital PS5. A lot of people will make their console choice based on which is the cheapest. It will also be tempting for people who primarily use PS5 but might like to check out some stuff on Game Pass on the side.

I think that's why they're waiting to announce it. They need to know what the digital PS5 costs so they can make sure to undercut it, otherwise what's the point of the Series S.

This season has actually been really fun and has brought me back into the addiction haha. I played a lot when Shadowkeep dropped, and then kinda lapsed for the two seasons that followed, but this one has been super enjoyable. Plus I’m working on Gambit stuff and feel like I’ve actually gotten better at the game mode so that’s helped. There’s definitely some stuff you can do without Shadowkeep but yeah, probably best to wait until you can actually access most of the story/DLC stuff.

Side note: On that Xbox article about Game Pass updates, they mentioned the weekly GP quests (even though they’re not live yet according to my app). Grounded is the game to start for points, and Carrion has a quest to earn 2 achievements. I’ve been making my way through that a level at a time basically so I’m glad I didn’t complete it yet. Weird game, but not terrible. Also, I don’t remember exact timing but I’m pretty sure you can earn two achievements pretty early on if you’re not into it and just want the points/weekly credit.

Yeah that's the part I'm a bit more dumbfounded by, why this pricing game is still going on, not that they haven't officially announced the S. If I'm honest though I'm a bit mystified at the Series S existing anyway, but I'll hold out judgement until I see exactly what it is.

The Series S is brilliant (assuming it's what we all think it is) because it gives people a budget option for next gen. Perhaps those of us in this thread aren't as interested, but a lot of parents and casual gamers are always interested in the the newest gaming stuff, but don't see the value in spending a lot on it. Series S gives a way for parents to buy something reasonably priced so their kid can have the "newest Xbox" and casual gamers who just play Madden and COD can also see it as an reasonable way to afford next gen.

In context of that thinking it's pretty surprising Sony is not doing the same strategy (that we know of). People will want to get the newest/latest stuff and if Sony's strategy is to keep selling PS4s for the buget gamers, that's going to seem very backwards if you can get a next gen console for a similar price.

All that being said, very few know or understand what next gen means and will probably continue to play Fortnite, Madden, and COD on whatever console and there will probably be very little difference in the experience between a PS4, One S, and Series S. The perception people have of it being better when playing on next gen, however, will be huge.

Alpha Skip Ahead got it a few days ago. I do like the little notification that actually shows me when my friends are online, and what game or app they are using.

Did the update actually add any new functionality, or did they just shuffle it around?

Crusader Kings III is supposed to be outstanding. 10/10 from IGN. And 9+ all over the place. Very nice add for GamePass.

Edit: but PC only. I thought an Xbox version had also been announced?

Yeah that other PC game Star Renegades looks pretty great also, I think PC might win this month so far.

Didn't see any info on a Crusader Kings III console release. Those games are so dense I've opened a few of the Paradox ones, looked at the screens and noped out. Maybe I'll give this one a legit shake.
