securitas writes "The New York Times Technology's Michel Marriott reports (free reg. req.) on the growing trend of developers making Xbox-exclusive games, ...
The current XBox exclusive trend is rooted in a few factors.
First, the XBox has finally proven itself to be a console on which developers can market their games without hesitation to sales numbers.
Second, the XBox allows for the most in almost every category: from graphics, to sound, to processing power.
And thrid, Microsoft has a sh*tload of money, so when they want exclusivity, i.e. Sega, Ubisoft, they can purchase it.
I think that having more Xbox exclusive games is great. Because the developers are focused on just the Xbox, they can make the games the best they can be, especially by using the hard drive.
WTF cagbot! You start all these threads, and never respond. shaq-fu you, I am never going to read one of your posts ever again.
lol
It's only an Xbox exclusive if it can only be found on the Xbox. PC ports do not qualify (I will buy the PC version of Doom 3 over the Xbox version for obvious reasons). That said, it is the strongest of the 3 next generation consoles, but strength isn't everything, as many capable developers have proven with their PS2 offerings. The hard drive has failed to differentiate the Xbox in any real way; yes, there have been developers that have utilized it to a small extent, but at a mere 8 gigabytes, it cannot amount to much more than an afterthought.
I dont really care if it comes out 6 months later to PS2 or Cube, the fact that it get develop 1st on the Xbox is a good reason to believe that these games will make use of Xbox's potential. Just look at Splinter Cell port to PS2.. FUgly (shaq-fuing ugly!).
And the Xbox HDD is not an afterthought, it makes games load MUCH faster and there is no need for additional memory cards. I have at least 4 PS2 memory cards.. if I have to play my sports games on PS2 I'd prolly need more than that.

Your point is moot as Gamecube titles regularly have negligible loading times. Wise developers find ways to disguise loading sequences (Metroid Prime, SFA).
yes but the GCN also has to compress the hell out of video to keep those fast load times.
Misconception. The media holds 1.5 gigabytes; this is a limiting factor and forces developers to compress FMV sequences.

Wise developers doesnt fool the wise gamer, I know when theres loading time.

Points that are not moot: Custom soundtracks, downloadable add-ons from XBox Live, and real need for memory cards. Wise developers may find ways to disguise loading sequences, but the majority of developers are not wise. Even the most basic game developers can figure out that the XBox can eliminate the majority of loading time by taking advantage of the hard drive. That same developer on Gamecube would be SOL as far as removing loading screens.
I think the article is being misread. What it's really saying is that all the xbox exclusive third party games are games that they will port to pc as well thus, not making them quite as exclusive as you think they are.
I was just reading about the guy who lead the production of Ninja Gaiden, and he asked about the ps2.
His response is one that i think contriubutes to the growing number of exclusives. His "vision" of how he wanted the game couldnt be done on the ps2. He did not seem console biased, even though it is Team Ninja. As he also said that he was asked to do ZOE3 for ps2, but he loved the series so much he wanted to enjoy it from a gamer perspective, so he turned down the offer.

that is not a misconception, I am sure everyone that wanted to know that already did. I think the tools the Factor 5 guys gave developers helped out, but still 1.5 gigs is small
