Xbox Fall Preview Program 2009 (Now Active)

KingBroly

CAGiversary!
Stolen from: www.majornelson.com

I am happy to announce that we’re doing an Xbox LIVE Update Preview program for upcoming features such as Zune, Facebook and Twitter. Much like we have done in the past, you’ll need to visit the Microsoft Connect site from this link and sign in with your Windows LIVE ID that is connected to your Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Once you do that, you need to fill out the "Xbox LIVE Update Preview Sign Up" survey in order to be considered for receiving the Preview System Update. We're asking a few questions about where you live, your home network, ISP connection and a few other pieces of information. We are looking for a good cross-section of our members in order to get the best feedback we can.
The Xbox team will then review all of the applications and if you’re selected we’ll send you an email notifying you of your acceptance in the program. A couple of points before you head off to register:
We’re looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good
This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available
Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the Preview Program. We’ll be making final selections from the completed surveys and send you an email if you are selected.
While both Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up, Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.
For additional details and specific requirements, head to Xbox.com.

If you are accepted, you'll hear from us in about a week. Make sure your information on Connect is updated with a current email address so we can email you if you are accepted.

Sign up for the Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program

Sign-Ups for the Preview Program are closed and Updates are going out to those who signed-up

Features in this upcoming Update include:
My Community Section
- Facebook - 6.45mb Application required
This includes some sort of "Friend linker" mechanic. I'm guessing it acts as a separate friend list. You'll be able to view photos/profiles from Facebook on your 360.

- Twitter
It's twitter. Nothing more needs to be said.

Music Marketplace - 4.81mb Application required(?)
- Music Videos
You can now download music videos through a dedicated Marketplace

- Dedicated Music Store for Games
Basically, games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and the #1 brand Rock Revolution will have their games here for easier access.

- Last.fm - 6.54mb Application required
This will be free for Gold Subscribers, with advertisements. It is a separate application and will not work while navigating the Main Dashboard, nor will it work while playing games.

Zune Video Marketplace - 4.81mb Application required

- Up to 1080p Instant Streaming, based on your internet connection. 8-10mbps is recommended.

Has this ever bricked any consoles, or could it just mess up and be annoying for a while? I haven't done it before.

I signed up and it sounds like im in. Just have to wait till they give it to me. I thought i seen somewhere that we could take in game screenshots with either facebook or twitter, but im not sure. Anyone know anything about that? Or maybe we can post achievements we unlock through our xbox? Im not really sure what features facebook or twitter have with xbox 360. If its nothing but doing it from my xbox instead of my pc then meh.

Awesome! I can't wait for the inevitable link of unlocking achievements and status updates. I want every person in my social network to know when I play through the tutorial of a new game. This is going to take achievement whoring to the next level! Suck on that Farmville! :)

I think there may already be a program that does that. I don't have it, but I'm pretty sure I saw achievements on my brother's facebook.

yup. there is.

Pretty much every firmware update has a chance to brick your console. But if this firmware does brick a large amount of consoles, yours will be fixed before everyone else's.

Thanks OP! Signed up! Hoping I get in. I hope they have the last.fm update in there. I would stream it out to my garage....it would be nice

I'm not at my xbox so can't sign up now (you need the Console ID), but will do so tonight. I'm looking forward to Facebook integration. I think. I actually find all those Facebook game notifications we already get on FB pretty annoying, so why am I looking forward to inflicting them upon others? Revenge? :)

I think I've entered this every time they made it available, and have never been chosen.

Still, here's hoping I'm chosen this time.

Signed up last night. One question asked for the model number of my TV; I don't remember being asked that in previous surveys. Maybe they're trying to sort out some video/HDMI isssues with particular displays?

I'm guessing it is probably due to the HD streaming they are offering through the Zune Marketplace.

I signed up as well. Not in love with the new features they are adding here, but I like the idea of trying them out early.

that's weird I usually sign up to these things pretty late and I'm always chosen.. maybe you write your informaiton wrong?

I think once you've been in once it almost seems to be guaranteed to get in again on the next round if you sign up.

An IGN video you can watch here.... says

Eventually Microsoft plans to allow gamers to snap screen shots of their game, and upload them to facebook directly. But for now this application runs seperately as a stand alone program.
Does this mean we can take screen shots during this update, its just not combined with facebook? I hope so, as long as we can transfer them to my PC via USB flash drive. If there is no way to upload them to anywhere.

I wondering when they will start to let us know? I have the site bookmarked cause well, I tried changing my Windows live ID numerous times with no successful attempts and the e-mail address i used is pretty much spam universe. Guess I'll have to keep checking the site

Don't think I'll be getting in on this one.
Don't really care for anything (or use) except facebook and even then it's not a big deal to me.

Went I went to the site this morning to check out the survey it was a long survey, yet when I went this afternoon it just wanted my GamerTag, LiveID, Serial Number and Console ID. Then when I finished the shorter survey it said welcome to the Xbox Live Update Preview. Did anyone else have that as their closing message or have the short survey instead of the TV/Internet/Streaming long survey?

The only difference between this morning and this afternoon was that I'm now part of Microsoft's TechNet. Finally broke down and got my own because my company wouldn't let me create test servers right now so I said screw it, if I want to stay up to date I'm going to have to do it myself.

I wonder if my request went through.
After I hit the "submit" button, it went right back to the empty survey screen again.
Oh well.

Same thing happened to me, well, in a sense. When I signed up using the link on Nelson's site, I was given the long survey. Filled it in, and got the error that everyone was getting. Went to my dashboard on connect, said I was invited to join the program, got the shorter survey, filled it out, it went through and I got the same message you did.

See I got the short survey from Nelson's site. As soon as I went in, short survey and boom. Weird.

Same, all I had to do was input my GT, Live ID e-mail, and console ID & serial.

Is anyone else getting the page of fail after they click to complete the survey? I waited forever just to get the survey then i finish it and its like "page not found. The content that you requested cannot be found or you do not have permission to view it." Its not like the usually page can not be displayed message cause it still says microsoft connect in the top left. Can anyone help?

Ok I finally got to take the survey. Only problem is I never got an email like they said they would send. Can anyone tell me if this email is important to whether I will be able to get the update early? or is it just an informative thing that I don't have to worry about?

I added one thing about Facebook. It seems to have something called 'Friend Linker' which is vaguely touched upon in Major Nelson's latest podcast.

My guess is that it acts as a separate friends list.

So, I guess you got into the preview? If so....lucky :( I want my last.fm

There was a video (on Joystiq?) that touched on this. You have your Xbox friends and your Facebook friends. You can see who on your Facebook friends list have a Gamertag and link them up to become friends on Xbox live and vice versa.

Post above this one knows how I got the info. However, it won't do me a damn bit of good since I only have 1 friend on Facebook, and that's my brother...who doesn't have a 360.

So yeah, I suspect I'll spam Cheapy with a facebook friend request if I get into the Preview Program to see how it works. For research purposes only mind you.

Oh, and I added the whole 'Zune Marketplace' and 1080p streaming blurb which is coming with this Update.

I haven't gotten anything. I could have sworn I read Monday when I filled out the survey though. Or maybe it was just "early next week"? I signed up within like an hour of when this thread was created, so unless it's not first come first served, I would hope I'd get in.
