CAGiversary!
My apologies as I know next to nothing about this. I am simply getting tired of the load times for the Chronicles of Riddick.

Can I save the entire game to my Xbox hard-drive?

Does this require hacking?

Any ideas/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

ha funny you should post this, i just got done installing my Xecuter 2.3 lite into my xbox, and so far have installed about 30 games to it. I LOVE IT, it makes playing games so much more enjoyable. For a long while i would buy the game from EB play it one night then just stop b/c i hate load times and capalizing my lower case i's...... Yes, so i talked to my buddy who got one and he said do it. I've never done a mod chip or anything and always didn't like the idea of them, i'm a game owner not taker, BUT you get blockbusters game pass and UH OH it's on! Its a little challenging to install to warn you. You have to solder on some wires and a chip connector, but if you have any handy skills or friends who are handy it's not bad. All in all when i got it up and running and loaded chronicles of riddick, the load time was literally 5 sec which is a HUGE improvment. I recommend a Maxtor 250 gig from compusa if they still have it for 129 otherwise they have a 200 gig on sale this week. If you want to know the place i got it from just PM me and i'll let you know. Even if you don't have a modchip, you still need to unlock the HD to put in the new one I believe (Dashboard won't function otherwise). I think there are switched mod-chips which you will need if you want to be able to go on XBL.

I have a mod chip installed too. It's a god send really. Free games, minimized load times, and you can watch dvds without the playback kit. It rules.

I'm all for cheap deals on video games, but stealing games and not giving a penny back to the gaming industry is just plain wrong.
I don't get how this works. So you can't use XBL but you get all the free games you want and quick load times?
True. Loading data from the hard drive is much faster then from the DVD (as can be seen with Halo, if you play a level and load it again it will only take a second or two too load because the data is stored on the hard drive).
I think the reason that it wont work on Live is because Live does a scan of your system, and if you dont have a hard drive made by one of the companies that makes Xbox hard drives, it will refuse to let you play.
Edit: You have to save games on the hard drive, so you might have to pay for renting them. Its a good idea to get a bigger hard drive, as the one that ships with the box is only about 8GB, and can be quickly filled up by only a few games.

ok, i personally mod mines, 2.3b lite, and yes, it kills the gaming industry that im not kinda paying for the game, just borrowing a game from a friend? :p a game is about the size of a dvd-r, or 4.2 gigs? xbox HDs are 8 gigs, so you must upgrade, unless you want to be stuck with 1 game in your xbox, there are other bad things that i cant mention, you got to be a pirate, to think like one.

i for one am punqsux avatar! but i dont incourage it.

i do modding services, i live in south cali, so yea.
its not illegal, but its legal in a bad way. the only thing you do is void the warrantee, and most chips out not have DISABLE/ENABLE switches like 2.3b lite, that will let you go into XBL, and they are OTHER ONLINE GAMING THINGYS, XLink Kai, is similar to XBL, but its like um.. a copy, just mostly everyone in have modded xboxs.

So you can mod your xbox and still have the same capability to play XBL?

Also to everyone that said that you mod your xbox, why are you on this website? If you get all the games you want for pretty much $50 for the 3 month pass + $100 for the chip + $150 for the xbox, why are you on a site that is used to find deals for games?

CTL, I hope you don't mod your xbox. It just isn't right to steal from the game industry.

Please don't misunderstand my reason for posting this topic. I posted becayse the load times of Riddick were annoying me. When I was 13 and had a Commodore 64 I did copy games. Now I am an adult, have a job and can afford as many games as I want at full or cheap prices.

I also have a great appreciation for private property and intellectual property.

My concern was to find out about if I could do something about load times.

I appreciate everyone's input.

I have an X2.2Pro with a 120GB HD and the main reason I did it was because the Xbox DVD drive I had was crap, it shortens load times, and there's something really cool about playing River City Ransom and The Simpsons arcade game on an Xbox. I buy my games as well.

the only reason i plan on modding (after the price drop to 100 dollars for the system) and popping in a hard drive is all the emulation goodness... you can pop in a slew of emulators and roms and get a ton of classic gaming on one machine... DMCA be damned. the current laws on ROMs for 10 year old games or older needs to change... make them public domain in their original incarnations

why should a company not be allowed to make money on a game it made 10 years ago?

Music and movie companies are allowed to. I fail to see your logic

Perhaps because a company cant make money on a game released 10 years ago unless its rereleased on a newer systems, because it would be next to impossible to find it new.
However, on the other side of the coin your right Casey. If a company owns the right to a game they should be able to make money on it and not allow illegal versions, even if it cant be found new.
I do see some PC developers give away their old games for free, like how Bungie does with Marathon. Often we see an old game released for free when a new game in the franchise is going to be released soon, which is a good idea.

Where did you get your mod? Selfinstalled or had someone do? I am looking for a reputable guy/gal/buisness that does it. Much appreciated in advance.

Yes it does. And all you people that think it's ok to pirate games.. just realize you're damaging the industry in a major way.
