Man this looks lame. $10-15 to download dumpy games. Way too pricey. And to get started you have to pay $5 S&H to get the startup disc from MS or wait until it's packaged in a first party game you want. $10 for Bejeweled? $10 for Collapse?

Too bad they didn't partner with BB or CC to give out the player discs for free. Getting Ms. Pac-Man for free would be nice.

Or am I wrong and does this look good to some?

The one thing I could see saving this is if they release a couple really fun online multiplayer games.

I don't think this will fair too well, I personally see absolutely no interest in this with anyone I know, and for sure I won't be getting it.

I thought it was supid the first time I heard they were charging for old crappy games. I knew then I wanted nothing to do with it.

"None of these games can compete in terms of graphics or sound with other Xbox titles"

solid deduction work there ign

That whole article is just utter garbage. A 6.5 for a version of Bejewled that costs $10? Anyone that has broadband (for Live) is going to have a computer and therefore can play Bejewled for FREE.

Like wubb said, a variant (well, a lot more than just one) of every one of these games is available for free online, hell, some of the games they're charging $10 for are built in with windows. Microsoft has been making good decision after good decision with the box, but i figured it'd be sooner or later until they screwed up like this. People who complain about paying for DLC on XBL have one more thing to add to their shitlist :)

wait a minute, your telling me that for 10 bucks, I can play the game solitaire that was free with my computer, on my XBox,

Sign me up!, also does anyone have any full price copies of Drake and the 99 Dragons for sale (my friend told me that the 50 dollar ones are rare)

give bucks MAYBE....10 bucks is WAY to much....you don't even get the medium...just a dump on your HD...

I don't know why they don't package these games in a regular collection or package one game for free per purchase of a $50 title.

In other words, buyt Ninja Gaiden or Fable and get one game free.

Maybe (I doubt it) they will take a hint and realize that people are not going to pay this much for these games. If you ask me, these things should be next to free with your live subscription fee.

In all fairness, the Hollywood Solitaire package has 125 games in it for $10. This is quite competitive with the shareware market. Ina family where some of the older member are computerphobic this could be reasonably enticing. Several of the big online game hubs (EA, Yahoo, MSN) have recently said that their biggest growth sectors were among senior citizens. This carries that to an even simpler platform.

Obviously, several of the offerings are not great values to existing ardent console gamers but they aren't the market for this. This is an attempt to make the Xbox reach a larger number of family members. Microsoft has to test the waters and see what works. I'm curious about upcoming offerings like Hamsterball, which is a very well rated PC shareware title. At $20 the Xbox version will be no more expensive than the PC edition and much more convenient to play on a big screen.

There are a lot of stumbling points to overcome but this has a lot of potential. No one is going to force you to buy anything in advance of hitting the right combination of price and product.

well, ill get my $5 disc with Ms. Pac-man on it and thats about the extent of my involment in this

for $5 it is worth having the disc and a game, after that its just a waste of money

Chances are, if you bide your time you'll get that disc for free. They'll have to make a greater effort to evangelize the service before it takes off. For those who aren't current Xbox Live subscribers, don't be surprised if the Live Arcade disc is added to the next generation of the startup kit.

At first I thought this would be pretty cool but then I heard about an outrageous price a couple months ago that M$ put out, and I haven't really shown any interest in this since.

It's okay to me, I mean, you don't HAVE to buy the games...you can just play the demos. And that's okay for me. The arcade is aimed at casual gamers, who play on the go, and don't have enough time. It's okay to me, since I will be playing Halo 2 most of the time!

yeah I'm not going to pay shipping on some disk from MS. I'll wait till GS or EB has them in stock or it comes in a issue of OXM. They should have made the games free after you register your games. Like for every 3 games you register you get a free download off the arcade. That would be cool.

My favorite line from the article:

Keep in mind that the currently listed prices are guaranteed until January 31. After that, they may increase.

This initial offering is very weak, you'd have to agree with that epobirs. No online multiplayer is an absolute travesty IMO. They should have put that into at least one launch offering.

I like Ackbar's idea of MS awarding free downloads for certain things.

Also, I assumed MS would release most of the games avaliable on the MSN Gaming Zone for free with multiplayer support. After all the Zone is a free service. (Chess, Checkers, Hearts, Spades, Bridge, etc) To me that would be a very good way to pique the interest of any computerphobic consumers as epobirs suggests. I'm not sure how many people there are that are comfortable using an Xbox and don't know how to use simple GUI apps on the computer.
