Xbox Live DOTW: The Maw plus DOTD: Battlefield 1943

not to please some whiny little bitches.

If you don't like what I wrote, then move along. Also, good job being a dick.
I can't remember what MS called this holiday promotion but I think anyone would assume it would be better than this shit.
They're pushing high-margin services like the Zune Marketplace and Avatar items and disguising it as a promotion/sale.

Wouldn't it have been easier to take your own advice?
I would think that at a minimum, they could just copy Valve. Apparently even that is too complicated.
The problem is the potential market on the console absolutely destroys Valve's potential market. Sure, they may move a few units of Thief 3 or Psychonauts or whatever is being discounted but that's mainly because the sales of those games have flatlined, especially in the PC market.

Most of the games that would benefit from a discount aren't worth buying in the first place. Shadow Complex was one of the first really front loaded XBLA game sales wise which is why it got discounted rather soon after release.

Most other XBLA games would suffer profit wise from a sale because they have consistent monthly sales numbers and would jeopardize that with a sale.
Wouldn't it have been easier to take your own advice?
I feel the difference is that he didn't go directly to the person making these marketing choices, and tell them off. You, on the other hand, indirectly called him a "whiny little bitch".

by the way, instead of paying 80 points aka $1 for stargate: continuum for a rental you can get it free if you have netflix. it's on instant streaming so I just saved a $1 and finally having netflix had an advantage.

Actually, I directly called him that. ;)

It's just amazing to me how people can find ways to complain about something being on sale. Like the fact that it's not on sale enough or not the product they want is a complete affront to them and that the company in question should burn in hell because the deal isn't good enough.

Does venting on a message board actually help? Do you think Microsoft (or best buy or amazon or walmart) give a shit what someone says on a forum? They look at their sales figures to determine if something was a good promotion. That's it.

Do these people shop in supermarkets and when the organic milk is on sale for $3.19 instead of the $2.99 they were looking for, throw a tantrum in Aisle 1? Or log onto cheapassgrocer and complain about it?

I don't want to get into a "generational thing" but I also wonder about the age of the poster. Because I gotta think if you're out of college, you're not that concerned about these things.

Finally?

Not to come off like I'm tooting Netflix's horn too much, but having every episode of Lost, Monty Python, both The Offices, 30 Rock, Fraggle Rock, early seasons of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Dexter and tons of MST3K all on instant is worth several months of membership on its own. All that is on Zune for at least $2 per episode, which is ridic.

Yes, but not everyone watches all those shows remember that. Also, weeds season 3 was up for about 3 days before they took it down for some reason. They haven't updated the office, weeds or other shows with newer ones in a long time and I have yet to see any newer content worth watching. As for movies, just a bunch of older crap and nothing worth watching really so unless you watch Dexter or some of the newer tv shows then it's not entirely worth the price. By the way, i'm cancelling it soon before you start to say anything. If you have netflix, stream this movie instead free and enjoy!

They have all seasons of 30 rock available for instant watch? I added Seasons 1 and 2, but they're not showing up on my Xbox. =(

Who are you to tell me what I can and can not post here? At least I posted without being rude.

That's rich. You come here and insult other users then try to talk about maturity.

Well you decided to vent against someone else here...did that actually help anything?

You should be able to add Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of 30 Rock to your Instant Queue. Make sure to hover over the blue part and then click "Add to Instant." Or go to your regular queue and hover over the blue play button next to it. Netflix will only move something from your regular queue to Instant when you had it in your queue before it went instant.

As for the person who complained...not sure what is missing from it that has you so disappointed. There is a very wide range of movies and TV, new and old, and always more to come (check out streamingsoon.com ... Being John Malkovich coming soon and tons of Kurosawa and other Japanese classics went up yesterday). As for newer movies, every one of them can be had through the mail...can't expect studios to want them given away so easily since having something on IQ is basically owning it. Still, plenty of newish ones come all the time: Sin Nombre, Step Brothers, Motorcyle Diaries, WALL-E, Brokeback Mountain, Pineapple Express, Walk Hard, etc.

But if you have Instant Queue you get at least 1 DVD out at a time, so what's the problem with getting brand new DVDs at release that way? Better than renting or buying/reselling them individually.
These daily deals are probably the single worst collection of items described as "deals" I've ever seen.
Avatar Golf is good for $2...it has a stage creator and plays as good as any arcade golf game at a pub. Plus you can support indie games by throwing a measly 160 points at it. If more and more quality XBLA games come out by indie devs and sell for two bucks, I think we'd all be happy.

Shadow Complex got a 9.4 on IGN, if I recall correctly (definitely over 9.0), and by all accounts is worth $20, never mind the $10 it's at now. Those two are good deals. The other stuff is fluff, but maybe the best is yet to come.

Hmmm, to be fair I looked back and didn't see much that looked like he was taking it as a complete affront personally. Depending on the tone and delivery (these things matter and the internet blows for that) it could be anything from exasperated to "can you believe this?" backseat driving from anyone who's taken a marketing class. I'm personally on board with the consensus of disappointing daily deal selection thus far. I'm not saying they should burn in hell or bend to my whims but yeah, as a consumer of their goods who is looking to hand over a few spacebucks I'm not digging what they've done so far. I'll have to take a look at the new premium theme...but I just put up my holiday one from last year and I'll keep that around for awhile.

So you don't even own Stargate for this price? You have to rent it? And it's not even High Definition?! By God what year are we in, 1999?

AND you can stream it on Netflix? Wow. I would really like to see the sales numbers on this. Hell, I'd love to see the numbers of items sold on each day for these daily deals. That would be an interesting look to see what's actually selling.

*shrug* Maybe someone likes it, but I'm waiting for something better. Hopefully I'm not waiting all these next ten or so days of Christmas.

I'm half tempted to stop checking it daily. Perhaps that's microsoft's strategy. Get the hardcore gamers disinterested in the promotion and then throw some awesome stuff in there in the middle when people are more likely to forget the promotion is running?

I did pick up Worms 2 though, so I can't say this has been a complete waste. And Microsoft did get me on the impulse buy, never having played it. It's pretty fun. Worth the 5. Don't want to say all's been bad.

I can totally understand anyone that is dissapointed with these deals. Because to be dissapointed you may have been hoping for something they are not putting up. But being upset over them is another story and just should not happen.

I also doubt they will put up any DLC for these too. These deals are probably going to reach to everyone (or as many as possible) and DLC limits itself to only the people who have bought that certain game. So I have a feeling we will only see full games, movies, avatar crap, and some themes or gamerpics. Not that, that is a bad thing, but i just wanted to say that, that is what i think is going to be in the deals.
I was just thinking how great it would be if the Music Game stores launched today, and apparently they are.
I got them... and don't really get it. You need to have, say, a Rock Band game to play the Rock Band songs, and that store is accessible from the disc, so why would you want it outside of the disc, too? You're going to boot the game to play it anyway.

could be a better interface.

or maybe you're just browsing to see which songs you want regardless of game title. A lot of people own both RB and GH.

I just like the idea of being able to check out songs without having to load the game up to do so. Honestly, a lot of this has come a little too late as I've stopped playing Rock Band pretty much altogether.

The daily deals have been VERY weak, although I kinda like the New Years theme. I didn't have high hopes going in, so I don't feel betrayed like some people apparently do. Offering a 33% discount on Shadow Complex, arguably the most highly regarded XBLA title, was probably the best thing to come out of all of this, so I am thankful for that.

Just read on Major Nelsons Page that: "1 v 100 Live will be free for all Xbox LIVE members (Gold and Silver) from Dec. 24th to the 28th (in regions where it is available.) "

Holy jesus dude, that purple hurts the eyes.

I bet on Christmas day its Castle Crashers for 800 or less. That would be a nice gift from MS.:applause:
I bet two people buy today's Deal of the Day, and one of them is a dog and the other is a baby.
I don't think dogs and babies would have gold accounts, on account of them being dogs and babies.

I would love to see the numbers on the assumption that xbla games have "consistent" monthly sales. If anything I would guess that most xbla games just sit and languish once they make it out of the top charts, or highlighted recent games lists. Most of them are probably desperate for a sale or promotion to get them back into the spotlight for some sales.

I think the main difference between the two is that Valve is in a highly competitive PC space with Impulse, D2D, etc. while Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo still see the downloadable space as an afterthought to the physical media market. If Microsoft was really pushing xbla deals they would make it available to silver members, instead of using the weekly deals as a means to push gold memberships. Plus once you've chosen a console platform, they really have your money locked to them, unless you own all the systems you're stuck buying content only from the platform holders store (mostly).

And your example of Psychonauts and Thief 3 isn't very accurate, you act as if Steam only has 5+ year old games on sale. Have you seen what Valve offers in weekly deals? Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, STALKER, Mirror's Edge for $5, Overlord 1 and 2 for $8.75 total, and Direct2Drive selling World in Conflict Complete for $5 and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for $5. That's not to mention the multiple 3-4 month old games that are offered 50% off.
