Xbox Live question 2 gamertags

I'm new to the 360 but how do you have 2 gamertags that can both interact with Live? I created a gamertag for my wife so that we would not have to share our money in Viva Pinata will her gamertag be able to go online with my live account? Or is multiple gamertags useless?
 
If you create a 2nd gamer tag you should link it to a hotmail account set up for a European or Japanese address. There are some games where you need to have 2 gamer tags to play multiplayer on one console.

I was in the same situation (same game, even). You have to create (and pay for) another Live account for your wife. You can't share one.
 
Yep you have to pay for another year of live for her gamertag to go online. Give it to her as a gift that should score major points. ;)
 
She can have a silver account and start her own games and keep her own achivement score, but if you want her to go online, it needs to be a gold account.

According to its wikipedia entry a Silver account is sufficient, but I haven't tried it personally.
 
man i wish i knew this earlier!!! i got a gold account just for trading pinatas! well maybe not, but it influenced my decision more than it should have!
 
I have a similar question, but I don't wanna start a new thread about this, so I am just gonna ask it here.
My brother wants to play dead rising on my 360, however the games does not allow him to have a fresh start (lv 1 etc. you know what I mean. lol) without overwriting my save. If I create a gametag for him, then will he be able to save his progress without overwirte my save?

yes. saves are linked to the gamertag.
