Xbox Live Summer 2009 Update Thread - Now Live!

Did that, didn't work. I just cleared my cache, so I'm going to try and see if that will prompt the system update. I'll let you guys know if it does, it could be the work-around for people who didn't receive it yet.

Edit: I can now confirm this works. So if you update a game, and still have no system update prompt, clear your cache and then update a game.
 
Anyone buy anything from the Avatar marketplace yet? I was tempted by a couple items but I think I'll wait a bit longer before I bite on anything.

No, no one has. Not even the people telling you they've updated and are mentioning all these features and how they work.

EDIT: Did the Dashboard used to load to the Spotlight tab when coming from a game or did it go to My Xbox before? Because now it goes to Spotlight. That's kinda annoying.
 
I'm not really liking the fact that I can rate games that I haven't downloaded. You should at least have to download the demo...right?

Yup. Always has. I wish there was an option to go straight to 'My XBOX'.

sorry about that, i just reread the previous posts and figured it out. does anyone know how to browse all available titles in netflix? im just seeing instant queue

If I had it my way, I'd make it completely customizable and order it like this:

My Xbox
Friends
Games Marketplace
Video Marketplace
Spotlight

Also, make a note to hide the Welcome Window again as it popped up again once the dash was updated. Why? I don't know.
 
Before the update I thought NXE was really slow when loading game pages etc. Now it's super fast after this update. I was prompted to update when I went in to edit my avatar.
 
There are only a couple of slow things I notice about the Dashboard now:
- Loading up the dashboard initially or coming to it from a game is still slow
- Marketplace stuttering

Besides that, it's actually responsive 99% of the time.
 
Netflix now does a better job of adjusting to bandwidth.
Before when I would watch an HD movie (CSI:LV season 9), it would get 2 minutes in, and then adjust back down to SD quality.
This time, it got a few seconds in, and then quickly adjusted with HD still, but my meter dropped to 3 bars instead of 4. But the show only stopped for a second.

I wish they would let us choose what color we want for the blade things. Now some are blue, some are green?
 
Went ahead and signed up.

I've had few issues with the NXE, pretty fast for me. Netflix streaming a lot of my stuff would drop out of HD as others have noted.

I need to try it at my new place since I have 12 mbps down now rather than 6 mbps at my old place and see if it works better.
 
I got the acceptance email yesterday, but I'm not having any luck actually getting the update. I've played several games and nothing has popped yet about downloading it.
 
Last night the new releases and popular titles sections were available on Netflix. This afternoon I'm only seeing my instant queue and the party options available and that is it. Anyone else notice this?

Bummer. Oh well. I'm sure they are just tweaking a few things.
 
Friends lists and guide load faster now, however this could go back to its original slowness once this thing goes live for everyone.

I remember being in the NXE preview and not having a dashboard lag problem...until it went live for everyone.

What about viewing your games list? Is that any faster?
 
I'm in! I haven't received an email from MSoft, but it loaded when I got on my 360 this afternoon. Overall.....it's cool. Nothing spectacular. But, cool. I have this uneasy feeling I'm going to spend too much money on make-believe clothes for my avatar.

Have you noticed any stuttering with the Marketplace? I know I have. Maybe it will go back to its original slowness when it goes live for everyone. That'd be very disappointing if it happened.

You can also turn off 'auto renew' your Gold subscription on xbox.com. As soon as I hit off, I got an email notifying my of subscription expiring :\

I wonder when I can enter this 12 month Gold code.
 
My game library seems to load faster now, but there is a bit of slowness on the marketplace, but it seems snappier overall. Random observation: the power tee seems to have changed to blue as the default color instead of red even on those without the dashboard. Almost thought some people on my friend list with netflix had the update, but ended up they didn't. So much for leeching off their netflix, for now.
 
I got into the new Preview program thankfully.

Marketplace loads up ALOT Faster now IMHO.

I gotta say, I spent 80 points on new Halo Cargo shorts sadly enough. Good thing I had left over points doing nothing lol

I was really hoping for the facebook and LAST.FM streaming since I been using that site ALOT now and have it streaming from my computer to my home theatre system. ALSO, I was wondering if i hook up to DVI now if it will work. My DVI was the one that of course wasnt compatable, BUT from reading the new stuff it seems like it might work. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
 
Turned my Xbox on just now and got prompted for an update. Awesome.

Pretty surprised actually, figured my chances were low currently not having Gold.
 
I never got an e-mail either. So when i turned on the 360 and got an update I was sorta baffled. Then happy afterwards when I saw some new things. I'm still wishing there was the last.fm streaming. That would have really made my day honestly.
 
I didn't see this in the update list but seems now your friends list is updated to what movie your friends are watching on Netflix, it even updates with the movie cover art on the Friends section with the avatars.
 
I would hope that's something which can be turned off as it will definitely be more intrusive to some people than others. Also wouldn't want to know that SynGamer is watching Legally Blonde or something else along those lines.

It asks you if you want to turn this feature on when you first update Netflix (which you apparently have to do after you install the update). Also, it says that you can change this option in your account settings, though I didn't actually check that.

That's good then. Wonder if it just makes it to where others can't see yours and/or you can't see others. The first is probably true, but not sure of the latter. Will find out sooner or later, but it's not really a big deal to me. I don't have netflix and I don't care what people are watching so long as something disturbing doesn't pop up. :p
