Xbox Live updates

JimmieMac

CAGiversary!
Well, Xbox Live is closing down for 24 hours starting today to upgrade some stuff, Code named Tsunami it's supposed to bring the following things:

Improved team dynamics, including enhanced intrateam messaging and challenges to rival clans both within the Xbox Live dashboard and on the Web via MSN Messenger.

Team customization features, which will allow gamers to create and share team mottos and emblems, as well as statistics, rosters, history, maps, and other content.

New custom-competition option that will let gamers build new types of contests and matches for titles that are created and administered by the publisher and/or the users.

Here's an article

What else do you think will be added? What would you like to see? Which of the released things listed above will be the coolest?

This update has me pretty excited. I'm sure it will still go unnoticed by the majority of the gaming community though. Xbox Live is by far the best online gaming experience I've ever had. I tried to go back and play an MMORPG, but I just put my head on my desk and clicked around. Occassionally typing a response when my party members asked if I was okay. Viva la Xbox Live!

For real. I used to think "How great could Live be? It's all just the same snot nosed punk ass bitches that play PC games"

But it's not.

The friends list is one of the greatest things about Live. Being able to find people that you "know" and play with when a new game comes out makes the learning curve so much easier.

When I play now, just about all the games are private. It's kind of funny when someone jumps into the game and you're like "Who's friends with this guy?" I know it sounds bad, but it's easier to accept someone into your gaming group if you know they are already cool with someone you know. There are some brats out there, but that's why God added the kick feature to online games.

as a relative newcomer to XBLive (i just got hooked up a few days ago), I haven't made any online friends/partnerships yet. But, I'm already hooked, and honestly can't get enough!

I've been playing Socom 1 & 2 since the network adapter came out, but the online capabilities of the XBLive system are far far superior. THis new update will hopefully make it even more enjoyable!

I resisted the XB for too long, but i would now say to anyone who doesn't own one: GET ONE NOW, AND GET ON LIVE!

Plus, being able to call your opponent a punk-ass bitch with your voice instead of keystrokes makes it all worthwhile.

What games do you play? What's your tag? Do you like the Wizard of Oz? I like the Tin Man.

Funny.

SO TRUE!! Some ass on SOCOM 2 last night bragged about getting MVP, and then said "Man, I'm really high right now!" My questions is: Who gives a shit?!?! I was drinking a couple o' beers while I played, but I sure wouldn't have felt the need to tell anyone about it. oh, well...

JimmieMac: not sure if you were being a smartass or not... but my tag is mediahostage, and i've been playing RTCW, MechAssault, and GR:IT...

...and i was always a bit partial to Toto; a highly underrated actor if you ask me.

It's so difficult to film with animals and small children. They are just to unpredictable. Props to Toto. If all animal actors aspired to his standards, more movies like Benji would be made.

XBOX Live will activate its service in Taiwan a few days later.
This update will include adding traditional Chinese font, and believe me, that's a tremendous work.

That's interesting, because I have XBL and SOCOM 2 and when I think about which one did it right, I think SOCOM 2. Yes, its cool that you can have the same friends over multiple games, and one username is ok, but what really disturbs me the most, is that when the host decides to leave, EVERYONE is done. How hard is it to have the host switch to someone else? SOCOM 2 does that, when the host leaves, someone else is host, why must we play around the host's schedule? That, IMO, is the biggest drawback to XBL.

I personally love xbox live. Ive played champions of norrath and socom 2 online and still find xbox live far superior. The friends list is one of the services greatest features. I also look forward to these updates, however from what i heard the game itself has to most of these features buit in for them to be used. Unless the developers release some kind of update for past games. My gamertag is shadd01, i play steel battalion:LOC and spinter cell mostly, but occaisinaly i jump back on RTCW and a few others.Peace

that one about xbox live it true, I've run into tons of people who talk about how they are on drugs. Like I care. Also some loser in crimson skies bitching about not winning just because he was ranked in the top 10 in the world. I've never had that much problem with droppers. But I don't own Capcom vs SNK 2.

I think online Rankings are a bad thing, they lead to cheap ass players who care more about rank then having fun. If a game does have rankings, it should be reset every month so people wouldn't be such bitches.

True that.

I believe that one feature of the new update will be when you send an invite you can attach a voice memo telling them why you want them to join...sometimes i send em invites to get in a game...sometimes i want them to join me...sometimes i want to go to another game...get what i mean?

I get about 168kbps upstream and some where around 2741kbps downstream. Most games I play on Xbox Live don't lag, but for some reason, every time I play ESPN NHL Hockey with a friend, that game lags like crazy. Can't quite explain it. He has a very similar up and downstream connection.

In a post made on the official Xbox forums it was revealed today that Xbox Live will soon be experiencing some downtime for the upcoming and ongoing Tsunami update. The downtime will be for 24 hours from 6:01 am (PT) on Wednesday, April 21st, 2004, and will see some but not all features of Tsunami implemented, with most not visible until developers put the features into titles. Moreover, it was reported that the MSN messenger integration for the Tsunami update isn’t going to be included during the downtime update, with that coming later on. For reference, the Tsunami updates will eventually include the ability to build competitions, new profile storage features, MSN alerts and so forth.

those were some good comics. i've run into some real tough talkers online. bunch of douchebags. very infrequently have i made an effort to simply shut them up. i'd say by far, the worst thing though, is the racism i encounter on live. don't understand that shit.

Racism? How so?

magilacudy...ive played in a couple games with abunch of whitesupremacists and they just went off when black people joined calling them "N!66ers" and such...not a good enviroment

yeah, you need to play games that have good hosts. If the host doesn't kick people for acting like morons or if the host is a moron find another game.

This may be a stupid question, but how could you tell someone is black over XBL or the Internet in general, as you can't see them? They could just be a white guy with a deep voice or with a ghetto XBL handle. Anyway, whatever the case that's definitely a shame.

Here's an article I ran across a while ago that talks about it some. Quite a good read, actually.

Oh, I hate when ppl brag about how high or drunk they are. This pertains to real life and Live, but I encounter it more often in Live. For instance, I get high from time to time, but I don't just say to my friends or some random person on Live, "Dude, I am so high right now." No matter how many times I tell them it's not cool, they still do it.
