Xbox Maintenance?

The thought of my Xbox entering the RROD (Red Ring of Death) state during the holiday season, with all these awesome games that I'll want to get, is frightening . I'm wondering what are some Xbox maintenance tips to prevent RROD?

I'm currently placing my Xbox, Ps2, and Wii in a cupboard under my tv. There's a CD-sized hole for the wires and what not, but is that enough air ventilation for my Xbox? When cleaning my xbox, is it ok to use compressed air?

Probably should put the 360 somewhere with more ventilation than that. And definitely at least open the doors when playing if nothing else.

I have mine on the floor (hardwood) beside my TV stand where it gets full ventilation. No room for it in the stand anyway since it's just 3 shelves and those are taken by the receiver, cable box/dvr and Blu Ray player anyway.

Try and get it out of that heat box asap. You want it in a well a ventilated place as possible. In a small enclosed environment with 2 other hot game consoles isn't going to help.

Make sure your 360 is horizontal, not vertical.

Install the game you are playing to your hard drive.

I don't see how compressed air could hurt, the 360 is essentially a computer inside, so you should be able to treat it like one.

Good luck!

I've heard about this dilemma before, and I'm wondering what difference does it make? I've always had my system in the vertical position, but I'm willing to change that if there's an improvement with the horizontal position- other than taking up space.

You're effectively covering the largest intake vent on the console. That's reason enough for me to keep it horizontal.

hdd and maybe an intercooler, not taht nyko one that messes up the console. I have mine vertical and with a intercooler(some gamestop one that only sits right when vertical) but since i have the mw2 console i can install pretty much any game i own.

I have mine on a stand that is wire framed about two inches off the ground. If you can find one I highly recommend it works great!
