Xbox one headsets?

I need a gaming headset that works with both the xbox one and ps4. I want the best headset I can get for under $300. I'm not sure on compatibility with the xbox one.. Can I get any headset and it will work if I buy the MS adapter?

Only a few older headsets were not compatible with the XBOX ONE.  I believe a decent headset is the Sony Pulse ones.  They are great for PS3/PS4 and you can attach to the XBOX ONE.  You just need the headset adapter.

 
Thanks for the input. Do I need to connect the headset to my receiver or tv optical audio out for better sound, as opposed to just using the xbox or. Sony controller connection?

For Sony console, no. If you get the Sony headphones you plug in a dongle into USB and they just work. As for the XBOX ONE, I know you will need the adapter. Not 100% sure how 3rd party headphones work with that. I'm using the Turtle Beach DSS to get sound to the headphones.

 
I bought the turtle beach XO Seven and the work great and I can use them on ps4 fine according to other people but the only volume controls are on the headset adapter. I was wondering if there's some amplifier thing I can buy to get volume controls for the game and chat volume when using these with the ps4? I'm assuming the same volume will be set that I had it last on the Xbox one but in the long run I need volume controls when using these with both consoles. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
