Xbox/Xbox 360 E3 Game Announcement Thread
Meanwhile somewhere a Sony rep sheds a tear. If Square is serious in this partnership then Sony might have to deal with Multiplatform SE rpgs.
u kno sony knew that was gonna happen before hand , same when SE signed up with gamecube . they will probably release somehting on gamecube also . When microsoft gets dragon quest then they will have a way easier time in japan .

Wow. I learned absolutely nothing during the last 1 1/2 hrs. It was basically a rehash of everything we know. None of the games look super enticing either. All sequels and such. Except for Kameo. And PDZ. Both of those look neat. I wanted my surprise Halo 3 announcement! AND a price! I want to know how much its gonna cost me!
Wow all they needed to do was tell me the price point and release date and I would have been happy.

The fuck?
i hear that. hopefully it'll be announced at some point during the show. The EA guy said "blah blah blah launching with the 360 this holiday season" that's as close as we got

Wow, that press conference sucked. Man, like everyone said, rehash, rehash, rehash, numbers, random guest appearance blah blah blah. Man that blew.

im just not impressed with ffxi... this is like a cock tease... worse than final fantasy crystal chronicles, at least that was an original game. this is an outdated MMO being released to hopefully ad to SE waning userbase in the game. The japanese market will not be impressed by a game that has been out there for nearly 4 years... now Blue Dragon on the other hand...

I personally hate FFXI but I can see them doing some things to make it fresh for 360. I assume a large expansion may be coming out with it. I own ps2 ffxi that I was giving as a thank you for beta testing and have never activated the games not for me. It is a chance to lock other deals for SE games tho and MS would be foolish to not take this chance.

it would come out for the PC as well then, and there is no way they would leave PS2 users in the dust. They make too much money off this game to alientate their users, to sell it on one platform over another

FFXI is a pretty good MMO, though there's no fucking way I'm buying it again. I had my fill on PS2 and that's fine. Bring on the fake-MMO FFXII on PS2.

I completely agree. I think it's interesting and most notible that unless the 360 is segregated server wise that we will be able to play ps2 pc and 360 all online on the same game at the same time.
they showed FFXI.

anyone who thinks a game that has been out over there for 3 years is going to entice users to buy an Xbox 360 is deaming (I mean Japanese gamers)

FFXI has been out over there for forever, so I doubt anyone over there is frothing at the mouth to play a game they have played to death

Overall they had some good games, but their focus seemed to be too much on casual gamers and capturing that market more than anything. This could be the generation that turns off the hardcore because publishers are focused on bringing new gamers into the fold
MMORPGs don't age like regular games. EverCrack has players with characters going strong after almost five years. MMORPG was a gaping hole in the Xbox library since it was ideally suited to such games but the three announced all fell through.

This category also is capable of making serious money with much lower numbers than a typical game. A dedicated audience paying monthly fees over a long period can in the long term produce far more net revenue than agame reaching an audience several times larger.
..we're still preE3, you guys are expecting way too much.
tru but isnt that what conferences are for ? (interms of reslease dates and prices if thats what you were talking about )

well they said that you could play with PC gamers, so I would assume you could play with PS2 gamers. I see no reason why not.

and to what epobris said, I agree with you to a degree. I know these titles can keep people hooked for a long time, I was mainly pointing out that the game is old and most people who wanted to play it already have. The installed base for Xbox 360 users is probably going to be quite small (exp. if they end up doing like they did with the PS2 and bundling it with the hard drive that they sell seperately). People may play for a month because the game is free, but I doubt many would continue their subscriptions (considering the Xbox hard drive is probably going to be used for other things, like it was supposed to be with the PS2)

I don't think they'd bundle a hard drive with FFXI for a console that has a hard drive already (unless I misunderstood that). Rest of the point is good. However, this'll help them in Japan, and it could pave the way for future Square Enix games.

Either way I have A PS2, XBOX, and GC. I am sure I will have a PS3, X360, and Revolution. I'm a gamer owning every console to play all there AAA titles is a must.

I thought they were still talking about selling it seperate. That is why I brought up perspective bundling

I didn't see the video, so if there was something I missed, that could explain it. But it doesn't make any sense to me to require a special, separate hard drive for it.

I've been sick all day, so I knew nothing about a press conference or anything, and I've just been catching up by reading various articles from various gaming sites (as well as these posts).

All I know is that I love my Xbox, and hopefully the 360 will be all that I love about the current Xbox, and more. I know that even though the 360 is launching earlier, and is using DVD technology instead of a new untested one... sales may still be behind the PS3... simply because of how big PlayStation has been. However, as long as I get great games, that's all that matters.

Sure, my opinion might sound a bit vague, but I'm on medication at the moment, and there's still a shitload of time left and a lot of information that everyone needs before they make their educated purchasing decision.
I thought they were still talking about selling it seperate. That is why I brought up perspective bundling
It was rumored but never officially stated by MS. Some with early looks at the machine may have misinterpreted the removable aspect as meaning it wouldn't be standard but everything since Thurdsay appears to be referencing it as standard out of the box equipment. There was one interview with an MS exec talking about how they were try to accommodate the desires of each territory, so the base package in Japn may be different from that in the UK based on what is believed to be more popular in those regions. For instance, if the Japanese prove to be nuts for the video camera a bundle is obvious but not necessarily attractive elsewhere.

If a particular region is intensely price conscious debundling the hard drive would be an option and that means developers have to be prepared for that in how they design their games. It may never actually happen but MS seems very determined to cover all the bases. In countries with good and growing broadband coverage Xbox Live is a major selling point, so having the drive as standard is probable for most regions.

Yea I understand what you are saying, but things seem kind of fishy. The talk all along has been about a 20 GB hard drive, and with a game of this capacity, it is going to eat up a large chunk of the space (as pointed out by someone on the boards, it takes almost 10 GB on the PS2 hard drive), and once you start adding in music, it is going to fill up quickly. That makes me think that even if the 20 is included (which has not been clarified), they are still going to have to sell a larger drive seperately, because of the lack of space for these games.

I wish Microsoft would come out and clarify this because the guessing is getting old (I don't mind it for most things, considering E3 has not come, but you should at least fully state the specs of the system and all its features within an hour)

the PS3 is backwards comp. with just about every previous medium of software

Unless they choose to make it a free trial download for XBL users I strongly doubt you'll be able to get started in FFXI for free. (A PH price for the disc and manual at retail may be used to get people started.) The whole point of such a game is that after the trial period is over people are engrossed enough to pay for continued doses. Heroinware.

If the MMORPG as ongoing paid subscription is unintersting to you, thats fine. You porbably like a lot of things dedicated World of Warcrack players can't imagine doing by choice. It takes a lot of choices to reach all the potential audiences.

Capacity is unlikely to be an issue. If you really have a big music library chances are it's already ripped to your PC and/or portable player. The 360 supports realtime streaming from the PC and direct connection to the portable via USB. I think most people will see the utility of not replicating the files onto their 360 drive when they can be used where they already reside.

Larger drives may become preferable eventually but there is no point in driving up cost in advance of demonstrated need, especially when those in need are a subset of the user base. Let those who have the desire pay for it without penalizing those who don't.

At what point does it stop being a piano recital and become a press event? I've had the thing going for 13 minutes with no end in sight. The streaming is fine but I'm realy not interested in the keyboard work.

I would hope they'd learn from Sony's example and not do that. Sony insisted the game was free but many people said they wouldn't buy the HDD Kit due to the perception it was overpriced and this was due to the bundled game. It was the coup de grace in Sony fumbling of PS2 hard drive support.

I agree that would not be smart. I was just trying to concieve of a way to have FFXI play considering I didn't think it would be able to fit on a 20GB hard drive. Hopefully all these fears are irrelevant and they stick in a 40 GB hard drive, so that no one has to worry about space

Yeah, I just read about that. I didn't really like the PS2, so backwards compatibility isn't that big to me, but it could be a completely different experience with the PS3. Who knows? I'll just see as more develops... :)

It starts right away on the GS feed, not sure which one you're watching though.

The one on Xbox.com is the live feed, which is playing piano music because its probably over.

The one on Gamespot tells me file not found, on Microsoft E3 2005 Press Conference.

The one on Xbox.com is supposed to be available as an archive as last year's event was. The version on Gamespot appears to be just the game trailers and having problems. I want to hear the rhetoric as well as see the demos.

So any news about the headsets for XBOX 360 if the controllers are wireless?? Are they wireless as well over 2.4ghz or 5ghz or Bluetooth?? As the CAG HALO 2 Clan member that gets the most abuse for the LOGITECH WIRELESS HEADSET.....they better have that technology figured out b/c I have yet to experience a perfect wireless headset....especially in city environments. SCRATCH!! POP!!

Will old XBOX Wireless controllers be compatible as well?? Would hate to lose the Logitech one's....near perfection. I am assuming you might be able to use the old Wired Controllers via a USB Adapter.

What the hell are you talking about? The Gamespot video has the whole show, from beginning to end, nothing missing at all.

It's the same place I sent you, there are two icons next to each video. One is an arrow, which is for downloading the video, which isn't what you want. The other is for streaming, the blue TV or whatever it is, and that's the one that you want. I have no idea why this isn't working for everyone but me, it's been working just fine all day.

Here's a pic that shows you exactly what to click.

Getting FFXI just shows how MS is committed to the hardcore gamers.
I am. I quit FFXI and I have been getting the itch to play it again. FFXI looked wonderful on the video MS showed. I am going to buy the 360 for FFXI! I have tried EQ2 and WOW but all I could think about while playing EQ2 and WOW is that it doses not have the charm as FFXI.

Great move SE & MS :applause:

It may not be your taste but it sure is mine :) The reason I bought a PS2 was to FFX & FFXI. FFXI is not dead and is far from it.

Cute. The row of "streaming" doesn't appear on the page for me. I'm watching it anyway though, found a direct link.

By the way, I just noticed how rediculous J Allard looks, wearing a suit coat over a hoodie. Almost as retarded as having a single letter for your first name. He's a very smart guy though.

Hmm it worked for me. BTW I love the sig

Edit: now it dose not. I tried it before I posted the link. You broke it! ;)

The link wasn't abbriviated by the message board, those 3 dots (...) are in the url, I don't think those were meant to be there.

I like my sig too, was thinking of doing a side by side with the PS3, or slapping the George Foreman's Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine logo on there. Maybe someone can photoshop the PS3 open like a grill with some steaks cooking.

BTW, does the Xbox.com one have the "proprietary" stuff edited out?

I'm at the first one of those parts... I want to see what Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer said.
