Xenosaga Anime - How does the story compare to the game's story?

(see subject) In other words, which one has the better story?

And what are the differences between the Anime & Game story?

I'm pretty sure the anime is supposed to be the word for word translation for the game. It's just the anime version of the game. Which I suppose some people may love, since the story is great in Xenosaga where the gameplay is just okay.

But you don't know for certain. You know as little about the anime as I do (having not seen it). ----- Can somebody else answer my question who has seen BOTH the game story & the anime story?

EDIT: I found this review - "Xenosaga's main failing -- when going by the anime -- is its condensation of the story from the game. The game had a rich story, wrapped in politics, intrigues and large scale space warfare, which served to set the frame where our heroes visualized their stories. The anime just lacks the embellishments of the game, which eventually removed much of the drive behind the various characters' motives. It's as if the anime assumes you've already played the game and knows all that's going on, based on the dialogues between the protagonists and antagonists in the show, which sounds more like summaries. Even as one who've seen most of what the game has to offer storywise, I had problems picking up on what they were trying to do with the anime. I suspect the people who haven't played the game at all is going to be far less forgiving about it"

I guess that answers my question.

The game is >>>> than the Anime.

It is nearly identical, at least the first 5 episodes I've seen (out of 12 or 13, I forget). It's good, but don't expect any new revelations. If you want new, wait for XS 1+2 for the DS.

The anime is a pretty terrible, condensed version of the game with minor changes. The main one that sticks out in my head is that Albedo attacks Shion's ship at the beginning during the Gnosis raid, taking the Kirschwasser that's later seen tagging along with him. Throughout the anime, there are various additional scenes with this Kirschwasser.

Edit: Wikipedia has some of the other changes listed.

I think it's safe to say you suck.

See, opinions are subjective. You didn't like it, others did. You get to say that you didn't like it, and even explain why, but not that it's objectively bad.

That review is right on and so is Kirin Lemon.

I'd like to add that the actual animation was pretty bad too, especially during the fight scenes. Way too many frames dropped.

There were two or three well-animated episodes, but the rest of them looked like butt. Different studios, and whatnot.

Oh, and the music was extremely unexceptional. The ending theme was nice, I guess.

Yah, you nailed it. The animation was largely weak, with the ending being the only exception. I was expecting it to be awesome, but was largely underwhelmed.

The anime, from what I've seen, is watchable, but nowhere near the quality of the game. I LOVED the storyline and cutscenes in the game, but the anime just didn't feel as good to me. If you just wanna enjoy the story, try this site: http://www.onegaistudios.com/

They essentially videocaptured themselves playing the game (along with a couple others) and then edited out the battles. You get all the story, none of the repetative combat. They only have part of episode I up right now, but supposedly the rest will be put up again at a later date. They're also working on one for Xeno II. Check it out.

I think GI put it best in their review headline: "A dropped ball of Devil May Cry 2 proportions." It's a passable game on its own, but it doesn't come close to the first one. That goes for every aspect-- gameplay, story, music, style, voice acting, you name it and it was probably better in Ep.1.

Ha! I do exactly the same thing, albeit with a Super VHS recorder. I've got "movies" for Kingdom Hearts, Skies of Arcadia, and Final Fantasy 10 that I watch with my young nephews.
