Y-fold missing from ds games?

i got some games on ebay a little while back from a seller, some used, some new. Most looked to be in great shape, and the new ones looked factory sealed, the problem was with a couple DS games

Lunar: dragon song
Sonic dark brotherhood
guilty gear: dust strikers

those 3 do not look like a regular factory sealed DS game. They have that generic saran wrap look to them. Thats kinda a problem, especially for Lunar since i already own it (bought it used at GS mint for like 4 bucks) and wanted a sealed copy for collection purposes. Did i get screwed or are these 3 games supposed to have that crappy wrapping job on them? I know ive gotten a couple games from amazon like this before. I dont know what causes it, maybe reprints?

Does anyone have these games new, or has gotten them in the past and can verify/deny if they are supposed to have a y-fold on them? Particularly lunar? I dont think the guy was screwing me. I got a GBA game that has an h seam and the others look good. It is worth mentioning that lunar and sonic have big price stickers on them that look kinda like toys-r-us or maybe circuit city stickers

Actually, some game come in both versions, and I've seen them on the shelf side-by-side. Don't recall the titles, but I was surprised when I first saw that because the alternative shrinkwrap looks like it's a re-seal.

ya.. the cheap shrinkwrap sucks for collectors. Its both ugly and kinda easy to mimick for resellers. Sounds like 62t confirmed that guilty gear doesn't have the y folds.. anyone else have sonic or lunar that can confirm/deny if they are supposed to come in the cheap y-foldless shrinkwrap?

I bought Sonic Dark Brotherhood new from TRU around release, and I'm 95% sure that had a Y-fold seal. It was a while ago, but I can kind of picture it in my head, and I usually notice right away when a game has a seam seal.

Yes Sonic Brotherhood came out originally y-sealed. I have ordered copies from Amazon and Ebay trying to obtain one, but both times got that crappy shrink-wrap seal:bomb: And I can confirm my Guilty Gears is the horrible shrink-wrap as well. When Target had Monster Tale for DS on sale for $19.99, I must have went to 7-10 different stores checking for a y-seal to no avail, so I just couldn't feel comfortable buying it. Took me forever to find a MegaMan Zero Collection that was y-sealed as well, as most stores only have the shrink-wrapped copies now.

I've pretty much given up on buying those cheap DS games from Amazon Mkt due to 99% of the time, it's the crappy shrink-wrap OR ugly store stickers messing up the cover. Best bet is to buy day one (I know, not the CAG way) or Gamestop. For some reason, they always seem to maintain y-sealed copies, where I find shrink-wrapped everywhere else, that is when they don't gut them:roll:

Ahh, collecting sealed games and complaining because the plastic isn't up to your standards...

Truly a classic example of a first-world problem

I guess i'll just assume they are legit, it sounds like all 3 come in the crappy reseal look package. But sounds like sonic originally actually came in a y-fold. *sigh* I'll have to double check on all games from now on. I actually DID double check on lunar and was told it had a Y-fold. I left the guy neutral feedback. was gonna leave him negative but decided not too since the other stuff i got from him was in great condition

I don't understand why you'd leave him a neutral if the games were originally sealed from the factory that way. You do realize that companies do have the ability to create y-fold reseals now too, right? NorAm used to re-seal used games with y-folds and fake security seals.

The hell does this have to do with anything, let alone the OP's question? Go back to your cave troll

Back on topic, my copy of Lunar is Y-fold sealed

Has everything to do with being a gamer... collecting sealed games is one of the silliest things imaginable, and I'm voicing my opinion on it.

While it may be off topic in that it doesn't directly answer the OP's question, I think it is relevant enough to call attention to the bizarre collecting habits. I won't buy any "greatest hits" games, but that itself is neurotic. Certainly being concerned about the fold of your plastic is a little funny without trolling....lighten up guys

Buying Greatest Hits or not, while picky, is not that weird of a thing... it's nice to see your collection have a uniform look to it, and I can respect that.

What I cannot respect is the need to buy games with the intention of never opening them... that's weird enough, and then to compound that, this guy is concerned about the type of seal used on the games that he's never going to open!

It's not neurotic... it's insanity.

I don't normally post on this site, but I had to reply to such a moronic post. Why the hell would you leave him neutral feedback when he sent you sealed games? If you want to verify that the games are real, the only way to do so it by opening them. Leaving a guy neutral feedback for something he can't control (the type of seal on the game of all things!) is beyond stupid. It's buyers like you that make people despise selling on ebay.

Another reason that the games could be sealed that way is that they are Canadian copies. If the cover art is bilingual, this is most likely the case.

Totally agree with this. The seller doesn't deserve a neutral.

And I have several new copies of Lunar: Dragon Song which were purchased from different retailers and all have the cheap saran-wrap type sealing. I'm leaving the store stickers on them to prove they were purchased from the store that way.
