YAY another GS story for ya'll

Tecka

CAGiversary!
So I went to Gamestop to get Tiger Woods 08 and a nunchuck (I know im not being a CAG here but sometimes its just easier). As i'm looking around, I get the whole "Pre-order and do you have any trade ins lines", which I just reply "No thanks" So there are no used so I pick up them up new and take the empty cart for TW to get a new copy from behind the counter.

I watch him as he looks for it, after 5 min or so, he pulls out a disk sleeve and starts putting it into the game. Thats when I go ahead and tell him "No thanks, I only want it if its still wrapped." He starts his spill about how it is new but I don't care, New to me is srinked wrapped and no stickers.

I tell him I'll just take the nunchuck and he still sits there and keeps explaing to me it's new and blah. I repeated to him I just wanted the nunchuck. He said "What ever, ok, just slide your card". Before I do, I looked at the total on the screen and it still read the 70 something. I repeated I just want the nunchuck and not Tiger Woods.

He then says "Oh come on, it's still new, why does it matter if it's not sealed"

Thats when I just turn around, leave and go next door to Walmart.

Guess I should just stay to my CAG ways and take getting games slowly and cheaply.

From one shitty store straight to another.

Not surprised. Not surprised at all. What the fuck is this guy thinking? I guess trading in unsealed games count as new games too then. Sometimes I wish GS/EB had numbers you can call to report on how shitty they're doing.

Anyways, hope you got TW 08 and your Nunchucks at Walmart.

Man, that's messed up. Whenever I have an unruly employee at Gamestop I call the district manager. One time when I asked for his number the manager on duty gave me the loss prevention dept's number (which I told the district manager about the next day). District managers are great. They're always quick to offer you a giftcard for your troubles. But not me, oh no, not satisfied so easily. I arrange to meet them in the store so I can watch them ream the employee in front of me. Sounds harsh I know, but it's the golden rule. I know if I was acting like a stubborn A-hole I would need someone to chew me out as well.

Maybe you should buy a brand NEW sealed game from them, open it and play it for about a month or two, stroll back in the same store

You: "Im here to return this game"

GS Emp: "so you trading it in for credit"

You: "Nope, I want to get my $60 back"

GS Emp: but Sir, its opened"

You: Its NEW though.......Thats what you guy's always say...

::Throws Glitter in Employes's face and kicks over a Magazine rack on the way out::

GS Emp: SIR!!!!! would you like to preorder GTA IV.....

fuck that shit. I don't take too kindly to an employee being a fuck nugget when I was no where near an asshole. I would have asked him if he planned only giving me the nunchuck without the game. Back his sorry ass in a corner, get him to stutter and ask for someone higher up and get his ass canned for potential fraud.

I did that once, i bought 2 games, i got one free with the purchase of the other, it was DBZ Budokai for GC and some other game. I got them played them for a week and a half or two. I went back to GS and gave the guy th games and he tried to give me trafe in credit. I was like "These are new, that how i got them" I then showed him the sticker on the outside of the cases and he returned my money for both, i got more than i payed since he didn't take into account i had got one game for free.:D

Yes, you should call them and tell them that the employee was doing his job and following company policy. That will surely get the ball rolling on him getting fired.

True, but there has gotta be a better way to do it than gutting them.

I got $46.20 in credit for Smash Bros. Brawl tonight after 20% bonus for applying it to Metal Gear and my Edge card. If someone comes in to buy it now and uses their own Edge card they'll get it for $40.50 and Gamestop will lose $5.70.

fuck em

i love gs as much as anyone on here (probably 10x more) but even i would be pissed if some mofo tried that crap on me. no means no, every time some dbag goes out of his way to try and change my mind i am sure to cancel preorders and return shit on him.

used the 25% off coupon yesterday with edge. the employee didn't know about it. he said if everyone was like me and used coupons gs would lose too much money. i said the tiv's you guy's give you do pretty well.
lol. Why the fuck do they even gut the games, its pointless.
Because Gamestop corporate is too fuckin cheap to buy spare DVD/PS2/Xbox/etc cases and print up case art for the entire chain? Yeah, I'm going with that reason, since they obviously don't want to hurt their billions in profit by buying reusable cases that they could remove the old case art from and slip in the next 'zomg preorder it or you won't find it anywhere except everywhere' game case art.

Whoever the CEO of Gamestop is would give Ebenezer Scrooge and Scrooge McDuck a run for their money in skinflintedness(is that even a word?), that's for damn sure. Then again, when you pay your employees the same wage a sweatshop worker gets, you should at least splurge a little bit on the shit you put in your stores.

As those of us who always chime in on the 'I hate Gamestop' threads typically say, their core customers(soccer moms with their spoiled rotten brats in tow, etc, etc)just don't give a shit what condition the stuff they buy is in, as long as they get it.

So, this cycle will continue as long as Suzy Soccer Mom goes to Gamestop to get her brats the latest Pokemon game or Joe Football goes for his yearly 'can't find it anywhere else' Madden game and so on and so forth.

It won't stop, until the above people STOP GOING TO GAMESTOP and they see their profits sink through the floor and crash and burn into the pit they obviously have to bury millions of games in since they're even too scratched for the above 'core' customers.

The chances of that happening though, are about as likely as Uwe Boll making a movie that doesn't suck balls.
They have a website:

www.tellgamestop.com
The last time I tried writing in a complaint on that site, it said I needed a transaction code from a receipt from Gamestop.

Oh and reibeatall, why can't they do like TRU does, as many have asked numerous times before? Is it because they are afraid to see their profit slip UNDER a billion?

I mean, come on, even if they took all of the cases from the truly shit condition games that NO AMOUNT of resurfacing would EVER repair, they could at least stop having to gut THAT MANY new copies of games by using those cases with publisher provided case art. Although, if you ask some publishers it's because of Gamestop that they don't make as much as they think they should, so I doubt those companies would help their 'enemy' to promote their games even thoguh they'd be promoting the NEW RELEASE COPIES in that way.

that employee is ill informed or just an idiot.
look at their trade in values. for example I bought DW6 with the coupon and edge and it cost $36 w/o tax. the trade in value for DW6 is $25. they make less money but def is still making money with the 35% off.
used the 25% off coupon yesterday with edge. the employee didn't know about it. he said if everyone was like me and used coupons gs would lose too much money. i said the tiv's you guy's give you do pretty well.
I could sort of understand that if they just gutted one copy and put the box on display. I preordered Okami for the Wii, and when I went to pick it up they had gutted every single copy. And they forgot to put any of the boxes on the shelves. It's ridiculous. And yeah, I've had experiences like the OP, Unless it's a game I've preordered I've probably got about a 95% chance of them pulling the same stuff. It's alright if they don't have any sealed copies left, but I always get the guy that says they don't and refuses to check. They just keep ringing me up like I hadn't said anything, and then look at me like I'm a total moron when I pass on their "new" copy for full price. Last time I had that happen I ran into a guy in the EB that's in the same mall as the GS, and he said he bought a game there and it didn't work and the same employee told him that GS doesn't ever accept returns under any circumstances. Idiots.

If you preordered something, and it hadn't been 48 hours since the release - your copy (referring to okami here) should not be gutted as per company policy, and I implore you to complain. Otherwise, they were just following company policy, which sucks.

How is trying to force someone to buy a game doing their job? e shoudl have taken it off the bill when the customer told him to!!

P.S. What happens to all of the cases that EB uses to push preorders? why can't they use them to show what games are for sale instead of gutting new copies?

Sounds about right to me... at least, it seems to happen enough that you'd think it was policy.

One of the guys at the store I sometimes go to actually vocalizes his dislike for a lot of their practices before I do. I went to get the MGS Collection, and all they had was a gutted copy. I said no thanks, and before I could finish he said he completely understood and hates it too. It's really a wonder there aren't more like him, and that so many of them accept the corporate schpeal without realizing how illogical it is.

I'll never understand why you like GameStop.

i understand the whole gutted copy thing but if it the last copy and it is gutted you should get a discount like funcoland used too. when i worked @ funcoland we use to take off 15% for gutted games it is just a extra bonus to sell games. now a days GS will never do that.

Well, I went to GS years ago to buy R-Type Final on PS2. They had three copies left, a display one, a factory sealed one, and one with just the PS2 seal (no factory seal). The employee hands me the one with just the PS2 seal (this was over a week after the game came out), and I told the employee I wanted the sealed one. He got really pissed at me telling me there's no different, there's no reason I should want that sealed copy, then slammed it on the counter all pissed off at me.

I got another story. I preorder games to avoid a gutted game. Back when it was EB (although I loved the store), the manager messed up my preorder putting me down as preordering Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, when I preordered Shadow Hears: From The New World. Thankfully he had extra copies, but they were all gutted instantly and he just handed me one of them.

What a fucking douche. I would have asked for the manager right then and there. And don't care if they gut games or not, just don't try to sell me a used copy and call it new. I pay and extra $2 for NEW, not almost new.

I remember one kid wanting Sonic Heroes (I think it was the GC version) for $20. The employee tells the kid and Dad, we recommend you buying a used copy because it will save you $2. Wow, that's amazing isn't it? I had to laugh over that one.

I also remember a pushy employee trying to convince someone to buy used over new, so he tells the person they get a 7 day warranty if buying new, and a 30 day warranty for buying used, so you want to buy used to have a longer warranty. No joke, and the customer fell for it (It was just to save $5 too).

If forcing someone to buy their games company policy, then GS/EB is much worst than i thought. Thanks for proving my point. :applause:

If its open, its no longer new. you should have gotten the manager or tip over a nearby rack to get it through his thick head that he lost a sale. did you get his name?

About a couple of years ago, when I was 13, I went to get Resident Evil 4 at GS because I played it at a friends house and it is one of my favorite games ever. I tried looking everywhere else, but they were either sold out or didn't carry it, and GS was my last choice. I go into the "NEW" eisle and find it, and I go up to the counter to buy it. Well, the case was open and everything was there, so I decided to buy it because it is an awesome game. I really shouldn't of bought it, but the cashier was nice and marked it down to 40 bucks instead of 50.

Well, my dad was with me when I bought it. Sorry I left out that detail.

One time though, about a month before I bought RE4, my grandma gave me 20 bucks to buy any game at GS. I ran in by myself and got MGS3 and the buy sold it to me without me needing an adult.

^lol, I bought M rated games all the time when i was 16 and 17 and never got carded, but im 24 now and I look so young i get carded everytime i go to buy a M rated game or R rated movie.
I routinely get carded at least once a month when I go to the local casino with family or friends and I'm 33.
I think it depends on the cashier. Some cashiers tend to follow the policy more than others. I find that some new employees "card" you and even check the picture. You can tell their new because they'll end up saying: "Hey Julia. I just check it right? That's it?"
My dad once bought me a game as a Christmas present at my local Target and got "carded." He's 52.

It may be the store's policy to card everyone regardless of age. The register systems nowadays require birthdays to be inputted so if they want to verify your birthday they have to card you, its too easy to just make up a random birthday and lie.

you know since we have so many GS horror stories, we should just stickie a thread so they can post theirs instead of creating individual ones. its still interesting to read them, although it could get redundant along with the replies.

Just read the OP and my mouth dropped. Crappy job or not, there's no call for being blatantly dishonest. What an asshat.

Absolutely. I got carded when trying to buy some glasses with beer company names on them at Target. They need to see the ID to input the information. If they don't, the system simply won't allow them to make the sale.
Getting a near mint copy of a just released game for $35 is pretty special to me.
flip a couple crap clearance games for profit and that 35 credit can actually mean around 20-25 cash money. gs is the suxors for newbs ftl omg gutted copy!!!!!

I seem to have no problem asking the employees if the display copy is the last copy of the game they have. I go up to the counter, hold the game in front of them and ask "is this the last copy you have?" or "can you check if you have any more sealed copies?" They look at me and then start browsing the drawers.

I do the same thing with used games. I always ask to check the quality of the disc before they ring me up. Sometimes the employee looks at the disc for me and tells me the condition, but I always ask to look at it myself.

I never ran into the problem of a GS employee pushing a sale onto for a gutted new game, or a crap quality used title if I don't want it. I've always been told "it's up to you if you want it or not."
