Yet another backlog thread , but this one has a twist (PS2 and PSP added)

CAGiversary!

Alright , so I've got a bigass backlog of games. That's nothing unusual around these parts I'd say. What's different here is that I'm taking a bit of a daroga or dmaul approach to doing this , in that I'm not just looking to beat games out of my backlog , but possibly get rid of them entirely. Far too many of the games that I've acquired over the years have simply been because they were cheap , or that they were considered "genre fans only" type games , or because "insert game magazine or webiste here" said the game was worth getting (yes I'm kinda shallow at times).

So here's the general idea of how I'd like this to go down. I'm going to start listing games from each system that I have that I feel might be questionable (for whatever reason) and I want the CAG community to give me opinions on what I should do with it. There are 4 responses I'm primarily looking for:

1. Keep It [This game should stay in my collection]
2. YMMV [A game that really needs to be played to decide whether I should keep it or dump it]
3. Play it , then dump it [A game that might be worth a play , but not worth keeping. aka Good rental games]
4. Dump it [This game is crap and I shouldn't waste my time on it]

Ideally I'd like less of #2 and more of the rest (yes it would be great if I could play each game I have and decide for myself whether to keep it or not , but if I had that kinda time we wouldn't be here right now would we?). If you'd like to ask me questions regarding anything about this list feel free.

I'll be adding more systems throughout the day. Without further ado:

Surely you can't be serious.

Definitely play Soul Bubbles, though.

Serious that I have them , or serious that I haven't gotten rid of them yet (or both)?
Spongebob I got cause I have a cousin that likes the show and wanted to play the game (didn't actually end up costing me anything).
GT Pro Series I got cause I was looking for a racer when I first got my wii. Reviews weren't too bad.
Ace in Action , cousin again , plus it didn't get bad reviews either.

All 3 only cost $10 each (in spongbobs case, it wasn't my money). This goes back to my original problem of just buying cheap games because they were cheap. I've gotten a little bit better about that problem though.

I'll be honest, most of that is shit.

Strangehold is a good game, however. People usually include it with crap, but it's a solid game, so no doubt that should be first. Also GRID if you like racing.

Bomberman is always fun to play, but I think the second one is a bit better. This is kind of a hard topic, because every game you play will always be a different experience to the next guy. Most of the games you listed are love/hate games, so you might really have to play them all for a little bit and see which ones you can see yourself keeping or tossing. I know that defeats the purpose of the thread, but you might miss some hidden gems because you're trying to find time. I usually can tell if a game is worth playing 1 hour in, and unless I see a mass bulk of people telling me it gets a lot better, I'll probably quit playing it.

P.N.03 is pretty much the epitome of #2, I'm sorry to say.

Some people adore it for what it is. Some people hate it. The fact that you won't be able to sell it for anything might help you decide in leaving it alone and popping it in one day.

I've finished all of my GBA games (yay!!!) which just leaves the huge backlog listed above. I think it goes without saying that I'm not actually going to complete all of them, but if I give the ones that don't really hold my interest at least a couple of hours, then we'll call it good.

StarKnightX, dump the Wii games for sure. Chicken Little Ace in Action isn't bad, but skip it since you have a backlog.

Definitely play Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ.

YMMV Touch Detective and Bomberman Land.

Punkmaggit, definitely get around to playing The World Ends With You and some of those other high quality DS games. And you should probably dump some of the RPGs you have for other platforms (PS2 mainly).

There seems to be a slight misunderstanding here , in that I'm not really as concerned with which of these games I should play first (I have plenty of games I'm working on ATM to have to worry about that) but which games should be played at all. While I certainly don't have a problem with suggestions as to what to play next , knowing what games are worth playing at all will help slim down my backlog more.

I assume your talking about Bomberman Land Touch 2 (in reference to the second bomberman being better). I might have to look into that.

I understand your point about a topic like this being a hard one to talk about. I was kinda hesitant on making this thread if only because I wasn't sure what responses I would get (if any). The way I figured it though was that enough of these games were probably not worthy enough to be messed with that fellow cags would be able to talk me out of leaving them in my collection.

The wii games were pretty much all pick ups for my cousin, or cheap fillers. We Love Golf is really the only one which I feel might be worth keeping because I'm a fan of Camelot. Then again I have the Hot Shots Golf series so I probably don't need both. As far as CL : AiA , it doesn't bother me as much to leave in my collection if the game is decent or worth playing (I'll get to it eventually) its more if the game isn't good enough or good at all that I'd rather not waste my time.

I've also heard mixed things about Touch Detective. Although I'm a fan of Phoenix Wright style games , I heard TD is kinda obtuse and hard.

Personally, there's not a single game I'd play listed for any system there. I stick to games I consider to be AAA, and there are none there IMO.

For the 2nd list posted by punkmaggitt I can't comment as it's mostly JRPGs which is a genre I dislike.

I have been working on playing through my backlog so I feel your pain. A couple of thoughts for you:

Turok :360: Dump it. Add nothing new to the FPS Genre and I finished out of duty only. I have to say, I did not have much fun at all (lots of swearing at screen in fact)
Just Cause :360: Play it then dump it. I just played through this one and had a good time. Nothing special, but it was entertaining, pretty short if you play through the story only, but not a lot new for the open world genre
Stranglehold :360: I would say keep this and play through it as it is really short. I had a lot of fun pulling off ridiculous moves on this one.
Circus Maximus :xbox: Play it then dump it. This was one where it was so different it was worth a look and I did have fun.

Good luck with the backlog, I am still plugging away at mine.

You should give me both Robopon games.

No, I'm dead serious. Give. I need something pokemon-like but with robots.

Give. Now.

With an response like that , how can I refuse :p

Added a few more games to the Wii , 360 and DS lists:
:360:
Army of Two
Def Jam Icon
Spiderman 3
Stuntman Ignition
The Simpsons Game
Zoids Assualt

:ds:
Capcom vs SNK : Card Fighters DS
Feel the Magix : XX/XY
Hoshigami Remix
Lunar : Dragon Song
Nanostray 2 (apparently I forgot I had the sequel)
The Simpsons Game

:wii:
Elebits
Harry Potter : Order of the Phoenix

Still have yet to go through my PSP , PS2 and PC games.

:360:
Army of Two - If you have a friend, and want to play a decently good third person shooter with the worst story created, I'd recommend you play this. Even one of these applies to you, play it and then sell it.
King Kong - If you want/need gamerscore

All the Gameboy games - WhyTF do you still have that trash? just dump all of that.

I played P.N. 03 for literally 5 minutes and turned it off. The camera was horrible and the controls felt incomplete, not to mention that the first level was beyond bland. IMO, you should dump that one.
All the Gameboy games - WhyTF do you still have that trash? just dump all of that.
Maybe I'll just overly forgiving (scratch that , I KNOW that I'm overly forgiving , that's why my backlog is the way it is) but not a single one of those GBA games I listed has less than a 53 Metacritic score (that dubious honor belongs to Battlebots). Most of them actually have between a mid-high 60 to a mid-high 70.

Granted that may or may not decide whether the game is trash or not , I just felt like pointing that out.

Finally got around to adding the PS2 and PSP games. Now all I really have left is the PC (for the most part).

The PSP I didn't put up many games , whereas the PS2 I put up a lot. A lot of the ps2 games I listed I know are good , I just figured I'd list them just for the heck of it.

I'd say definately keep Jeanne d'Arc. Of course, if you're not into tactical jrpgs i'd be very happy to take that off your hands... ;)

I'd keep Grid...Ninety Nine Knights seems like one of those cheap hack and slash games thats fun for a playthrough. King Kong is apparently pretty easy to beat and get achieves then get rid of, if you're into that. And if you haven't played a spidey game before I'd play Spiderman 3 a bit just to swing around the city :D

Jeanne d'Arc I probably wasn't going to get rid of anyway (unless I didn't like it at all) I just put it up there so that the psp list didn't look too small.

150 hours on Rogue Galaxy sounds like it'd fit in right along with the 100+ hours I've put in to Final Fantasy Tactics over the years (probably closer to 200+ hours but I can't even wager a guess to the real amount).

I can understand 100+ hours on Final Fantasy Tactics and other SRPGs but I didn't think there was enough gameplay in Rogue Galaxy to get close to 100.
