It happens right? My slim ( call of duty bundle) has been giving me the signs my phat did before it died. Tonight alone I had marvel super hero squad ( with the kid) and homefront freeze on me ( though this is the third time for this title).

I'm getting really scared. Salvaged all my accounts on the phat but not the system itself, don't wanna go through that again... especially so soon

Side question/ thought: my avatar blu no longer works. I tried disabling the internet but i still get nothing. Think my bluray drive/ lens is going?

i guess i got lucky, but my ps3 has gone through probably over 1000+ hours being played and i have no problems with my phat at all.

now since i said that, ill prob ylod next week. hahaha

I'd classify in-game freezing as more of a per-game kinda thing. Not saying that it couldn't be a bad sign but I've had plenty of games freeze/crash on my Slim. (even to the beep and shutdown stage)

Well....when my first Slim's Bluray drive died, I had no warning signs. It just died. One day I was playing fine, the next day I heard sort of a weird noise when I put a game in, and that was it. As for freezing/crashing, that happens with all systems, it all depends on the game.

Yeah, my PS3 Slim (A bit over a year old) has froze twice on Uncharted 3 (Strangely only in multiplayer), yet i have played other games for 30+ hours and havent had a single freeze or issue.

It might be a good time to get into the habit of backing-up your saves to USB say once a week or so even without the threat of failing hardware.

I do so on every system which allows it as it's better to have them and not need them than the other way round. (I'll be doing daily backups of my Skyrim saves as I know Bethesda too well to not do so)

The Grand Theft Auto games online seem to be the ones that are the most problematic for me. I've had them freeze up numerous times.

I know I've suggested this before to other people with freezing issues on their PS3's and it does seem to help, but the OP should definitely try restoring the file system on the PS3 before freaking out about a possible YLOD.

Here's how to do it in case you don't know how to get into the PS3's version of a 'safe mode' start up: http://playstationlifestyle.net/2009/10/14/keep-your-ps3-safe-with-this-guide/

Again you want option #3(Restore File System).

Just backup anything you may not want to lose because if one of those files is corrupted then the system will just delete it during this process without warning.

You're quite welcome. Let me know if it helps. It definitely eliminates the freezing issues for a bit and seems to speed up the time from when you insert a game disc to when it pops up on the XMB, that's for sure.

Probably issues. Uncharted 3 may still have a few glitches due to being a new game. I had it freeze one due to an in-game issue.
