YMMV Sega Genesis Collection for PSP @Bestbuy $9.99

tuan717

CAG Veteran
First time poster...

If anyone is a genesis fan this is a really great collection. I saw them with the $9.99 sticker on the video game bin in front of the cash register along some other games. Was looking around for it in other stores/online sites and it's still at retail price ($29.99).

This and Guilty Gear for PSP cheap at Circuit City are conspiring to make me drive up 30 miles to Best Buy only to most likely face disappointment upon arrival.

Maybe tomorrow.

Woah, I REALLY want to get this for the PSP... if anyone else finds this, definitely post back!

Which Best Buy were you at when you saw this, Tuan717? If this is a new frontlane game I'll be stalking BBs all over!

(Interesting, it's gone off Bestbuy.com.... if this is just a 'clearance' I may be out of luck, I haven't seen the game in the stores I visit around LA in months...)

Does anyone know if you can save your progress on games, for games that didn't have the ability to do that on Genesis like Sonic 1 and 2? I was thinking of getting Sonic The Hedgehog for GBA but this is a much better deal

I was just coming here to post this deal :p I just bought it about 20 minutes ago for $5 (after the $5 off coupon)...it was the only copy there :D. Along with this, they had:

9.99 Gunpey (One Copy)
9.99 Pacman World Rally (One Copy)
9.99 Exit (this mysteriously re-appeared at my store after being gone for months...only one copy though).

Older 9.99 PSP Games (Most still in stock at my stores):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
9.99 Ultimate Block Party
9.99 Crossword Puzzle
9.99 Go! Sudoku
9.99 Puzzle Challenge
9.99 Virtua Tennis
9.99 Ghost In The Shell: SAC
9.99 The Hustle: Detroit Streets
9.99 Death Jr.
9.99 Death Jr. 2 (YMMV)
9.99 Pinball
7.50 Metal Gear Acid 2 (as some people reported, though its $15 at my store)

Not only can you save your progress, you can save your game at any time and as many times as you want (well, as many times as your memory card has space for).

I played through Sonic 1 by saving approximately every 30 seconds. Enemy ahead? Woah, woah, woah. Save. :)

And the funny thing is, in Phantasy Star 2-4, you can save in-game and via the menu. Most amusing.

This is a great deal for $10. Awesome games, but then I am a big Genesis fan. You cannot doubt the awesomeness of Sonic 1 & 2 though.
I'd be thrilled to find Ghost In the Shell: SAC for $9.99 - $5 coupon = $4.99.
I was thrilled too when I found it yesterday :) Just bought Virtua Tennis as well...Best Buy is really impressing me lately.

There were a lot of new PS2 games that showed up at my store for $9.99 as well guys, though I didn't really check them throughly, but they had: The Getaway, Metal Gear Solid 3, Gun, and probably seven or eight other titles that just popped up new today or yesterday (as I just checked this past weekend).
I saw it at the Westwood bestbuy in CA.
Crap, that's my local one. Did they have more copies?

I think I need to leave work early.

Yea, they had a stack of them.
9.99 Death Jr. 2 is $20 at my local BB :(
It must be a YMMV thing then. I haven't spotted the game for $9.99 myself, but several others have. I changed my post to reflect this. All of the other games, other than Metal Gear Acid 2, I have seen for $9.99 though.

Popolo Crois is also $9.99. I picked up the only one in stock at my store.

Edit: Woops, sorry, didn't notice it was already listed in the Small Best Buy Price Drops thread.

(Edit to add: WESTWOOD, CA, for those not following)

I just got back, they only had 2 left out in the Front Row area. I grabbed one, and hid the 2nd one behind the HUGE pile of Pac Man Rallys, so another CAG has a chance at getting one. (it's in the upper left, but there are a ton so people may not scan the whole group)

(Dunno how rare any of these games really are, they are back to having tons of One Piece Grand Adventure for the PS2 and GC, but still figured SGC may be a little more sought-after)

Thanks for posting this, I've been going nuts looking for a deal!

I just got back from a BB that still had a copy on the shelf with the original UPC, and it rang up at $30.

The game needs a frontlane generic UPC to ring up at the $10 I'd imagine.

I grabbed a copy of Death Jr for $5 (after coupon). They had one copy of Virtua Tennis left (which I already have a copy of). Death Jr II was still 19.99 in it's case ... they had about 5 copies of that so hopefully it'll drop and I can get that too.
Which MGS3 was 9.99? Snake Eater or Subsistence?
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater $9.99. Also, both of my local BB no longer carry Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.

Well, it DEFINATELY has to have the frontlane sticker over the UPC. I went to another BB that had both the Frontlane version marked $9.99 and one w/ the original UPC. Original UPC rang up at $30 again.

I ended up getting a $5 :psp: Gunpey as well.

What does eveyone mean by "frontlane" ?? There in a different section than the video games ?? Or those games are literally in the frontland of the store?? I love how my besy buy never has anything ppl on CAG talk about (ggc,clearance,etc.)......

It's a big blue bin/shelving setup of clearance games up by the cash registers. In the BBs I frequent, it takes up the space between 2 of them, but not the closest to the door...

This is well worth the full $30, so obviously if you find it cheaper...! I SO hope there's a second (and third, and fourth...) volume. This has so much great stuff, but there's so many great games left to put on a sequel.

I had to do that for Alex Kidd. I really enjoyed Alex, but I think the later levels would have been impossible without the ability to do that!

The original Genesis cheat codes work on these games too. Actually one of that last extras you unlock lists tons of cheat codes.

And the funny thing is, in Phantasy Star 2-4, you can save in-game and via the menu. Most amusing.

Yeah, I'm wondering where those games are saved? Just into the main save/configuration file for the game maybe?

I was looking forward to Phantasy Star IV, but I've quit playing-at least for now. I was annoyed that it didn't show you how the equipment you were going to buy would affect your stats. I thought that would have been a standard feature by 1994, but I guess not (I really thought I would have remembered that!)

The bad thing about this game is now I expect to be able to save ANY game whenever I want. I keep reaching for the Select button, and am momentarily confused why it doesn't bring up that menu :D

Picked up the last one at Chandler, AZ. They had all kinds of good PSP games like Gunpey and Exit-- going to make multiple trips to grab one of each.
Now I just need a PSP.

I just got from the store and purchased the copy you hid behind Pacman Rally...it was still there!!! Thanks. Didn't look like there were anymore copies left though.

Thanks OP.

Found a copy at the Best Buy by Lakeline Mall in Austin, Texas. They had about 5 left as well as plenty of the others on the list. They had 1 copy left of Ghost in the Shell which I was going to pick up, but after bringing up the reviews on metacritic from my cell phone I decided against it.

I used the PS Underground coupon I got in the mail, is there another one floating around that I can look for to pick up another game?

Cool, glad the hiding worked!!

Are you sure that was the last one? The one on Ray didn't have any. Do you remember if it had Pac-Man World Rally?

I went to the one on Chandler Blvd by Chandler mall. They had Pac-Man World Rally.
As for me being sure if they had any, I dug through the value bin up front, but only quickly looked in the actual PSP section. They could be one hidden, but I doubt it.

Thanks! I'll have to stop by and get World Rally.

No problem, there was 2 or 3 so you should be fine. Anything interesting at your location btw?

Its actually a pretty good game. From what I've read in reviews, people either hate it or love it, but I happen to love it. It is so worth the $5 I spent on it. I never believe reviews anymore...not after reading reviews for Monster Hunter, many of which they said it wasn't that great...now its my favorite game of all time. You just never know how you'll like a game until you try it ;)

Not really: Virtua Tennis, Sudoku, Poker. I think that was it for the PSP - they were in the PSP section.

I am hoping there will be re-stocking as one loaction I called said they were getting more Genesis Collections in.

Found a few Genesis collections at the Arden Best Buy in Sacramento, CA. Bought 1 for myself, thx for the heads up OP!
