My most precious guides... I guess the Mother 3 guide isn't exactly rare since I think you can still order it but it's still precious to me :)

I want your Bayonetta guide its the main Future Press guide I'm missing. ;)

Nice collection by the way there are some nice rarities there.

I've got some pretty old RPG guides circa 1993-1996 (Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, several Final Fantasy guides, etc.) but they're all beat to hell because I was a little kid back then and didn't take care of them. >_<

I need to go back in time and smack myself in the head.

I've got TONS of strategy guides from the 90's including a LOT of RPGs. I tossed all of my Nintendo Power and EGM mags last time I moved about 7 years ago (which I sort of regret. They were always great crapper reads even though I'd read 'em all like a zillion times), but kept all the guides. Thank goodness, because they are magically worth money now :D

I'd love to see some more guide collections here. I have a lot of PS1-2 guides and a few older ones but stopped collecting because newer guides are so artificially inflated in value/demand (and I ran out of space).

That's too bad. Early 90s NP and EMG sets can fetch some decent money if they're in good shape (though it varies vastly depending on various things). Next Generation fetches a lot.

Newspapers and other long runner magazines keep archives of their back issues either by libraries or the publishers but I don't think most video game magazines were ever achieved because it was such a niche hobby and by the time it picked up, the became a huge part of the internet age and publishers never saw the need.

I can't post my guide collection because it will bring us back to the hoarder conversation. Apparently I own over 30 copies of the army of two guide. I thought they would be worth something, luckily the Uncharted ones are. ;)

Dont really have photos of my games, but these are my gaming setups.

I also have a boxed Sega SC3000H (Mark I with a keyboard built into it pretty much), but as I don't actively use it, it is stored under the stairs.

Sheesh, you've certainly got me beat. In all of my years of gaming, I have only acquired 4 strategy guides: Fable 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Dark Souls, and Skyrim. They're all CE's, though, so at least they're purty.

I always wonder why people buy so many copies of guides, but I guess if one of them makes it big then you're golden.

Still, what are you going to do with all of those Army of Two guides?

They were from my first guide drop. I was so excited to find penny guides and I went way overboard.

I used to sell them for 9.95 w/free shipping on ebay and would probably sell 1 a month. Once I get my new place I plan on going through my games and guides and thinning out the collection/update my guide trade list.

The idea of "Special" or "Limited" edition cheat books puzzles me, especially in the era of the intrawebz. Why buy the damned things at all?

In 1989 they made sense, but I can't see myself ever buying another.

Or are they just "art books" at this point?

Most guides these days are very poorly done (and often contain numerous errors)... but still, it's much easier to use a guide than it is to use a PC/laptop/phone/tablet to look up a FAQ. FAQs and YouTube are great if you need to look up a few things but if you need a more consistent reference, I'd rather have a guide.

And I do like the art they stick in guides, though most guides don't have much in terms of dedicated art.

I really never used em, just always picked em up when they were traded in at the used cd/game store that I managed years ago since we sold them for a buck or less most of the time. Like you, the art was mostly what interested me. I've got dozens upon dozens that I've never even opened up LOL!

I prefer to have a guide to match the game, even if I don't use it. I do occasionally use guides, but I was never a person who would buy a guide with a game. It is nice to not have to leave my room to check a website if I am trying to do something in game. I will always prefer physical media...It is the collector/hoarder in me. ;)

BTW: These will be in my game room. I got them for free at a closing BB. I have 1 more item that I forgot to take pics of. I have multiples of these shelf liners, but these are the different designs I got.

Actually I'm the opposite having my PC right next to my 42 inch makes it easy to play and look at walkthroughs. Not to mention having a portable netbook.

I can see the collecting aspect of it but as far as convenience its about as convenient as asking the store video clerk to watch your kid at the local video store while you browse the adult section for porn. :booty:

Two examples now of games I'm trying to platinum Dark souls and Mgs4 both have a strategy guide and both are useless to me in helping to obtain platinum. Both those guides were either written before or after patches that altered those games. Making those guides as useless to me as buying those video game mags for reviews.

Though I only own the guide to one of those games. With so many fans re-writing unofficial guides there is always something better to go by then official retail guides.

In a lot of ways they are like "art books". It's nice to have a good-looking book to go with your game. And of course in some cases (like with Lunar 2 or Bayonetta), the only guide available is a hardcover CE one.
Hrm, thought I posted this here. Anyways here is my collection, Made a video as pictures were a pain to take as you can see (poor lighting)

Madrocsz great collection! Where did you get your glass display cases? I've been interested in finding something to store statues and whatnot.

I second this!
Jeez - you people are crazy! That is some collection...
Cover Project folks are sorta insane in that way ;)

Looks great, Madrocsz!
I can only admire all of your collections for now. I'm saving for dental school and can only budget a few vanilla games and their DLC.
Keep it up! You will be getting paid soon!

Somehow I keep managing to make more space without starting from scratch with the new shelving that I'm planning. It is getting tight though.

SNES collection outgrew these shelves, so PS2, PS3, PSP, Saturn, Xbox/Xbox360, GameCube, and Wii all migrated over instead.

Made room for everything else over on the big wall.

All the portables get to hang out together now...

And all of the non-portable carts get to chillax with each other too while the cases portable consoles sit up top :)

I've got 10 N64 and 15 SNES/SFC games to make covers for still, which means they're gonna spill into that shelf that's holding the Genesis stuff. Gonna be completely out of room soon :/

I also churned out my 400th cover today :)

Thanks for the link, Squarehard; I had no idea they were on sale. I ran out of room ages ago, so I might need to pick one of these up.

Everyone should get in on this because according to Storage Wars, these things are worth about $150.

The backing is made out of cardboard and the shelves are supported by plastic screws. The boards of the shelves will warp within one year of storing just dvds. The unit I purchased is very similar and all the shelves are warped. That's why I'm currently storing my games horizontally on a closet shelf just for my gaming. I'm not even going to mess with anything that isn't solid wood. I'm telling you the least amount of games you store on that shelf will warp it, if you take a level to it before and after one year of using it. You won't even need a level it will be so warped you won't even need 20/20 vision to see it.

I recommend buying something like this used from the 2nd hand market. Get something that is solid wood and in near mint condition. Won't cost you more then $50 bucks or so and you can store a elephant on it for 20 years.

Hell I need to take some pictures and ill show you exactly the quality you're going to get.

No need to take pictures; I already have two sets of Sauder shelves (one of them being the same one in that link) currently storing the majority of my games (plus three sets of 5-shelf bookshelves for my "library"). For what it's worth, mine have had very little warping over the last couple of years and they came with metal screws. They're not amazing quality, but they look nice and they're a pretty good deal.
Have you tried this one?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sauder-O-Sullivan-Multimedia-Storage-Tower-Cinnamon-Cherry/13044874

Probably the best bang for your buck out there, and a solid shelf as well.

I have 3 of them, and it's on sale atm. ^_^
I actually just put in an order for two more about 5 minutes ago. I've had my current two for about a year now and I don't see any warping (yet at least.) They look awesome full of games and it's the most storage per dollar out there.

Looking for a media stand for all my Blu-rays and some 360 and PS3 games would like it to be a dark wood color if possible. The bigger the better and this is the space I have to work with.

46"-Wide X 62"-High X 16"-Deep

Any points in the right direction would be great.

Thanks,
Anthony H.

Do you guys think that an arcade machine would make a cool shelf for games? I am looking around for cheap ones and I just think it is Aesthetically amazing. And also do you know where to get any (working or not) cheap?

You could just make a shelving unit that has end caps which mimic the silhouette of an arcade cabinet. I think that'd be pretty trick.
Can you affix things to your wall?
No, not really plus this is not going to be a permanent place for them so i really dont want to go overboard. Once I get my basement finished everything is getting moved down there.

Congratulations, that is the first video I sat though in its entirety. We haven't crossed paths yet. I will introduce myself if I see you. BTW we are having a Chicago CAG meetup 9-15-12 around noon at the Galloping Ghost Arcade if you want to hang out/play games/trade games/guides/etc.

Ya, definitely say hi if you see me, lol.

I would love to come and appreciate the invite, but I have to work, I work at 12:30 on Saturdays. I've been wanting to check out Galloping Ghost too. I'll see if I can do anything (sometimes I can move my schedule around a little) but probably won't be able to this time.

I'll have an update tomorrow after I finish putting together that third Sauder shelf I keep talking about. Bought it last week from Walmart, but been scrambling to find a spot for it, but I finally cleared a space, so it shall be welcomed into the family tomorrow...especially since I'm almost out of space again, so timing is perfect.

I guess I'll take my first shot of my collection soon. It's probably gonna pale in comparison to all of yours. I don't have that space :\.
