I don't know about you kids, but I love beer. I don't mean I love to get drunk and party with the frat kids and at sweet high school parties, but man I love the taste of beer. I am a beer connoisseur. So do any CAGs have some favorite beers, let me know what you like and maybe we can all find beers that we like together.

Get your beer at Beverages and More!! www.bevmo.com

PS Let's try to stay away from Bud, Coors, etc... we all know they are there already, and we all know what they taste like, this thread is going to try and get us to find new beers that we may like.

My Current favorites are...

Sudwerk's Marzen
Fat Tire
Great White
Downtown Brown
Orange Blossom Cream Ale
Acme California Pale Ale

Cheers!

Grimbergen Double Abbey Alley Ale
Rogue Dead Guy
Left Hand Sawtooth Ale

myke.
...I'm just getting into homebrewing, and made a drinkable semblance of an ESB in March; does anyone know of any good Cheap Ass Home Brewer's resources?

I love dark beers, especially Porters. i've been burned out on beer in college, or at least the cheap stuff. These days I settle for microbrews and imported stuff, because the drivel squirted out of the Busch facilities is subpar, though it is extremely popular. The marketing campaign has helped the shitty beers like Miller, Bud, and Coors stay afloat and popular. Sam Adams is as low as I'll go in regards to domestic brews. Still, Sam is a decent beer, and their Triple Boch is the most potent in the world.

Here in Maine I drink Geary's London Porter. I've scanned the store shelves for all the hippy brews, but i cant find anything new that I like. Anyone recommend a good dark beer? I was hooked on Newcastle for a bit, but now I've moved on. I want something flavorful and strong, stuff I usually cant find in an ale, pilsner, or IPA. Guinness is tasty when I'm at the bars and straight from the draft, but I think i need something with a bit more flavor. Sometimes Guinness doesnt hit the spot and leaves me wanting.

Again, can anyone recommend a solid beer for me to try out? i'm always looking for new experiences, in the pursuit of a beer I can adopt as my own.

If you can find Downtown Brown in your area... it's delicious, my favorite dark beer by far.

Have you ever tried Blue Ridge Porter, a decent dark beer,, but many tend to say its on the sweet side, but I found it pretty good.

We kicked a keg of Sierra Nevada on Saturday night...was alright, but for a pale ale, it definitely wasnt pale. If you are aiming to get drunk, any beer will do, practically. So Sierra it was!

Not cheap either. Never bought a keg before but before all teh taxes and crap, it was about 130. Bud light was 88 bucks. Because it sucks. I'd invest in a Kegerator but the stuff would go flat before I could finish it I think.

I'll look into those dark beers. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to try a specialty store and be raped by the prices though!

I think it's funny how many people are after New Belgium.. They started right in my humble town of Fort Collins, Colorado. I, as they say, represent.

new belgium has some great beers, fat tire is going to blow up, i saw a commercial for it on the nba playoffs, thats pretty big stuff. their blue paddle is really good as is their sunshine

New Belgium Trippel
Chimay (Blue or Red Label, it doesn't matter, though the Blue is 9.2%)
Sammy Smith Oatmeal Stout
Sammy Smith Nut Brown
Bells Oberon

And for when I'm broke-
OLD STYLE(oh yeah!)
Amber Bock

When I'm really really broke-
Schlitz

DEFINITELY Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. That's one of the most perfect beers you will ever find. Goes with just about every food. Great during the winter or on a hot day with BBQ. It is slightly expensive, but you will be hard pressed to find such a balanced, hoppy, yet not overbearing beer. During the winter, Sierra Nevada makes a great Celebration Ale. Not for the weak hearted.

If you like hops, I'd also reccommend Three Floyds' Alpha King, though that may be harder to find outside of the Midwest.

OH, and let's not forget Goose Island's Honker's Ale and India Pale Ale. Both are amazing. The Honker's Ale has a low alcohol content, but it approaches Sierra Nevada's perfection. Great packaging too.

how could I forget the other famous chicago brewery? I love having Goose Island brews cheaply on tap in every bar.

If I have money, Corona is definitely #1.

I also like MGD, Coors Light, Alexander Keith's and Molson (representin')

For hard liquor (on the random occasion I have it), Sambuca.

My fav. is Sapporo. I would use to get a sip from my dad's glass when I was younger and went out for japanese food with my family. I guess just being used to the taste is why it's my favorite. But of course a good corona is always delicious.
id go with budweiser-> king of beers
has anyone tried the budweiser select yet?
Yeah, i've tried one, at a bowling alley a few weeks ago. Basically the select is just one of those watery, low-carb beers. People that dont overly enjoy the taste of beer usually do good with those. But most light beers are low in carbs anyway, so why go OVER-watery? Light beer is too much water, not enough flavor for me usually. I do make acceptions with Sam Light sometimes, and i might try the new Beck's eventually. But mostly, huge commercial companies like Anheiser-Busch, Miller, etc brew in such large quantities that they cant put enough character, time, or flavor into their beer.

But of course, if you aim to get drunk, cheap stuff is just as good. 'cept I get headaches from hell when i drink Bud Light. Just the look of the bottle sours my soul now. Yup, college will do that to ya. Now I cant touch anything that is under 11 or 12 bucks a 12-pk. Used to be that i spent that much on 30 beers. The stuff i down now is more expensive, but worth the flavor. (plus my tolerance went down the shitter after my college binger days)

I hate that stuff. My favorite is "robert simpson", it's a microbrewery in barrie, ontario (and hour north of toronto), unique flavor. It even has a thermometer on the back to tell how cold the beer is. Though, I must admit, it tastes absolutely horrible if it warms up, but as long as you keep it cold it's great (I tend to take a while to drink a bottle, and about halfway trhough I normally have to put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes).

Anyone try any beer from that brewery in salem, MA? I think the name is obvious, but it escapes me for the moment. Whenever I go to salem advertisements for it are all over (and advertisements for tours). I haven't tried it though, is it any good?

Well, after the Dominican Republic I must say that Presidente was very good to me. Normally, I like the following:

Budweiser
Natural Light (Best Cheap Beer on the Planet)
Newcastle (Just like Candy)
Blue Moon Pale Ale

Really, that is about all I drink beer wise and most of it is natural light ($4.99 in Kentucky)

I've gotta go with Molson XXX. A friend of mine got me started on it, telling me it had more alcohol than what I used to drink (Coors Light and Hieneken). Since then, I haven't looked back.

My father's a big fan of Sam Adams, so I've been meaning to try that out, too.
youre missing out... even jesus drank
I've never met anyone who didn't hate the taste but just got used to it, so I can't imagine I'm missing much. As far as Jesus goes, I'm not much of a fan.

Those people drink too much bud, natural, miller etc... there are actually many flavorfull beers out there, you just have to look in the right section

my favorite beer is free beer. I will drink anything if it is free. depending on how much cash I have I either buy originall coors or guiness

I agree. Everyone who tastes bud, natty, etc for the first time (in high school or college generally) doesnt enjoy the taste. I doubt my experience would have been any different if i started with a Guinness or Newcastle, but it definitely is an aquired taste. But it's not like smoking cigarettes...you dont have to smoke a 3 packs to like them and then find you are addicted. With beer you can suddenly be playing a game or watching tv and think: Damn, i could use a beer right now. Out of the blue you have become used to it and actually enjoy the flavor.

It's kind of like drinking whole milk now that I've been drinking skim for years....i just cant do it. But if you give beer a try, stomach a good brew or two, you'll find you like it. You dont need to drink to get drunk--there are plenty of us who can just relax with a beer or two the same way you listen to music or watch your favorite show to unwind.

In high school i used to drink occasionally, usually just to get drunk at parties--so i wasnt a alcohol virgin when I got to college. However, during my freshman year I got so drunk on bud light that i completely lost my taste for beer. I couldnt even sip it, or finish one, without gagging (i was even called a pansy by my peers!)--so i switched to hard stuff and screwdrivers. It wasnt until the summer going into my junior year that i could return to beer: I bought a case over the summer and drank 1 or two each day, trying to get used to the taste once again. And voila, it worked wonders. But i never realized how good beer tasted until I graduated from college. Those 4 years were a haven of gross, cheap beer that is good for only one thing--getting drunk and puking.

Beer is God's gift to man. While I am also not a fan of the invisible deity, i can appreciate a great drink that calms my soul and intrigues my taste buds. It's not for everyone, but if the Egyptians could do it, then so can we all!! The three drinks of antiquity were water, alcohol, and milk. I LOVE them all! So Eat, Drink, and be Merry!

Holy crap, i also found Newcastle to taste like candy. I even said the same thing in my blog (though now on hiatus)

That's funny ... my parents switched to 2% when I was still pretty young and I never got used to it. Finally in the last year I've been getting whole again and it's great. I'll actually drink it instead of just putting it on my cereal.

Honey Brown is my absolute favorite.

Sometimes when I feel rich I'll go to "Whole Foods" and buy some really expensive Belgium beer.

Anything from Samuel Smith
Anything from Ommegang
Newcastle
Magic Hat Number 9
Anchor Steam

Too many to list really...

I am interested to try Beck's new Premier Light. Not that I'm a fan of light beers, but at 64 calories and 3.9 carbs it's the lowest of the low cal beers.

Two 40oz of any cheap malt liquor.

I tried some home-brewed stuff (thanks fanskad) it was good.
I like any beer, never met one I did not like. for some reason to me dark (porters) are better to me then ale's.

I grew up in Oregon, which is to Beer what California is to wine.

My pops homebrewed long before i was born so i grew up to be a beer snob. Which sucks because now i'm on the east coast and their microbrew is pure shit. I can't stand the stuff. So i've been homebrewing in my dorm room closet :D

as far as commercial beer:

Black Butte Porter
Dead Guy Ale
Obsidian Stout
Bridgeport IPA
Celis Wit

bread's done
