Anyone have a phobia or fear?

I'm afraid of spiders. It's a fairly common phobia and I have no idea how it became so severe. I remember not being afraid of them as a kid and I've never been bitten. I'm fine with other bugs but spiders just creep me out for some reason.

Oddly enough I know quite a bit about spiders. I was watching Jeopardy the other day and they had a "Spiders" category. I was amazed that I got every question right.

I have a list. All are psychological, and all have wonderful stories to go with them.

Heights. I had a traumatic experience when I was 4. Yeah. That kinda subsided last year when my dorm room was on the top floor of the building, yet I can't go to the second story of the mall here without freaking out.

Spiders. I've been bitten once, but that wasn't what caused the fear. I don't actually know, although for a while I wasn't actually scared of them. Hell, I live in Florida and love the outdoors.

Snakes. This wasn't made better by the fact that my neighbor had a snake, knew of my fear, and would attempt to scare the shit out of me all the time with the snake.

To a (much) lesser extent, Alligators. Not while I'm on a riverbank or anything, but when I am in a canoe or small boat, I have this belief that below the canoe is a huge ass gator waiting to attack. Doesn't help that I watched Lake Placid when I was 8, and that in one of the rivers I was at a lot there was a 13 foot gator that the wildlife people couldn't ever catch.

Oh, and the best one of all: My sister's driving.

Driving. I am 22 and never went to get my license. I have had my temps for a while. I only got temps so I could drive my wife away after our wedding. I am currently in therapy for this fear. I just have huge anxiety about driving. Im sure it will pass once I begin driving again. If not, just stay away when Im on the road

I have a minor case of claustrophobia; not so much a fear of tight spaces, but of not having an escape. I start freaking out in the grocery store when there are buggies blocking my way out of an aisle. :p

That's about it though, other than a fear of being bit by spiders (love spiders, just hate getting bit.)

Blood being drawn, whether it's from me or another human. I don't mind shots/vaccines though. Just looking at blood being drawn makes me queasy. Gotta look away or close my eyes when I have to have it done.

I've never really encountered anything I'm afraid of.

Bridges (may be mostly related to my next fear though)
Heights (but mostly only when I'm on structures I consider unsafe, roller coasters don't bother me that much)
Night, I can't spend a whole lot of time outside at night, because I do start to freak out a little, I'm not afraid of the dark, just night time, but being outside with others makes it not happen though

I only have a partial fear of heights because I have terrible balance. I'm fine in planes, roller coasters, driving over bridges, being in tall buildings, climbing a tree, etc. But climbing a 20 ft unsecured ladder and bungee jumping were scary.

My big fear is bees. Doesn't help that when I was young, I was playing hide and seek, hid under a table on the balcony, only to discover a wasp next under said table.

Spiders.
Heights. Deathly afraid of heights. Last summer my dad wanted me up on the roof of the shed to help my cousins put shingles on and I made it to the 3rd step on the ladder before I started freaking out. That and I would have broke a nail... But I love flying and roller coasters.

Irrational fears.
Wind Turbines. They freak me out.
Open Spaces.
Spiders- even the small ones will send me running out of the place.
Small ones don't bother me, neither do daddy long legs. And tarantulas I can tolerate but I still don't want to touch em'. It's the wolf spiders, funnel spiders, brown recluse, etc. that make me want to do the icky dance.

I think the fear of heights contributes more to the fear of falling. I got some crazy vertigo when I went to Tokyo Tower and looked down the at the glass floor.

Snakes.

Spiders--but not deathly. I can kill them and other creepy bugs, but I freak out if one's on me etc.

I used to have a fear of heights, but it doesn't bother me much anymore unless it's like a rickety ladder that's not very stable etc. No problems with hiking in the mountains near cliffs and looking over etc. anymore.

I have to say I have a phobia of merging onto interstates. I always feel wayy tooo pressured.

Oh and also eggplant...I cant stand the stuff and if i smell it I get the chillz.

I don't have a fear of heights but rather a fear of falling from those heights. I'm fine on planes and inside of buildings. But I get nervous if I have to change a light bulb at work on a 15 foot ladder or at a height that only has a waist high barrier between it and me.

I also fear choking on food while I'm alone.

Kinda the same way with me too. I can't stand driving on the freeway, highway, whatever you want to call it. The only times I have drove on the freeway are trips, 3 of them and when I worked at Pizza Hut making a delivery. I think it's mainly the city highway travel that fucks with me, once I am out of the city, I can drive normal. Too many people in damn rush to get to their destination. Did not help I saw a guy crash his truck into the divider barrier on Christmas night. Then my brother stopped on the inside breakdown lane to see if the guy was ok and cars whizzing by at 70 MPH, thinking we are going to get hit.

I will go out of my way to take the streets to downtown, the outer cities, etc. I know I could get there so much faster using the toll ways or highways, idk, it's just so crazy how careless some people are on the roads:whistle2:k

How the hell could I forget my biggest phobia..FLEAS!
An apartment I moved into had them and it was so bad that I lost sleep for months. The worst thing was that they are impossible to detect but we knew they were there because of all the bite marks all over our bodies. The amount of time and money I wasted is astounding. Because of this, I lost all fear of any type of bug that creeped me out. Mainly because of one reason; if you can see it, you can squish it!

I have two.
- Fear of Falling - not necessarily heights. I can climb, repel, ride coasters with loops, etc. I just could never do full 90 degree drops such as bungee jumping, sky diving, base jumping, rides with 90 degree drops like Bombay/Der Stuka at Wet N Wild (Orlando), etc. .
- Fear of Public Speaking - I have to really sike myself up when I am not familar with the audience. It takes me some time to get my anxiousity down.

I'm surprised you're the first to bring this one up. This is definitely my biggest fear but it's something that's gotten better over the years. Still get nervous though and it all depends on who I'm speaking to and the size of the crowd.

Spiders are scary too.

spiders and heights. seems like these are very popular.

i also have a fear of immense spaces, like when look ahead at the edge of a cliff or seeing underwater pictures of the vast blue waters. i think it's related to the fear of heights.

People - It's weird and hard to explain. I just have a general distrust of people and their intentions which can be thrown into a phobia depending on my anxiety levels. So I mostly prefer to be alone in the house with my dog. On the other hand, I'm somewhat fearful that I'll end up dying alone or being the guy with 25 dogs in his house.

Spiders - They violate the leg rule which states that "anything with more than 4 and less than 2 legs is scary and wrong and therefore needs to go away"

Centipedes - Leg Rule

Snakes - Leg Rule

Ladders/Heights w/o safety - We had to do one of those ropes course things in school (around 16yrs old) and I always knew I disliked ladders (fine with roller coasters and such) but I had to climb this pole and balance on top of it. I climbed the pole just fine but completely froze when I had to attempt getting on top of the damn thing. Barfed when I climbed back down. Barfed hard, like so hard that the area between my dick and my butt hurt.

I forgot about the public speaking, but probably because I never have to do it anyways, it never came to mind. I remember in elementary school when each grade would perform songs for certain holidays or whenever, I would never show up.

I get very anxious about driving, terrified of highways. Never driven into an accident but I'm not a very good driver, parking especially. Probably because my parents screamed at me for everything while driving on my permit. Plus, all they do in driving schools these days is show you videos of people dying and then take you out, make you pull out of a driveway, and then hand you a license.

I want to live in a city.

Live in South Florida for a month and you'll be terrified even looking at a car.

What's terrifying there? You don't move at all. When I lived in South Florida, it was just a parking lot (lived on S Dixie in Miami). I just ended up riding the metro everyday in order to save me over an hour of my time.

Spiders - I can kill very little ones, but anything as big as my thumbnail has me heading for the hills.

Bees - I try and pull off some Matrix moves while trying to dodge a bee then I run like a little girl.

Heights - I am scared of heights but only when I don't feel in total control. Roller coasters freak me out, partly because of the height and partly because I'm scared of big drops like that, because I feel anything can happen. I recently visited the Hoover Dam and that didn't scare me at all. I felt more in control since there was a 2 foot wide barrier between me and the edge of the dam.

Public Speaking - Thank god I never have to do this because I hate it. I'm not as bad as some people, I can speak relatively clear and I don't sweat, but I turn as red as a tomato. I hate having all eyes on me, even if the people I'm talking to are people I know personally.

I am actually terrified of bee, wasps, basically anything that flies and has a stinger. I got stung near the eye when I was younger and ever since then the damn things have scared the hell out of me. I've always wondered what could have happened if that thing had actually stung me in the eye instead of just over my eye.

I moved here about 10 years ago and it wasn't so bad until I had to start commuting to Miami. Just about everyday there's 1 or 2 assholes cutting me off not using blinkers or someone not giving me the courtesy and of merging on the interstate. If you don't double or triple check before getting in the next lane some speeder will magically show up almost hitting you. I'm getting major road rage issue because of this city's driving mentality. Don't take my word for it, I know this article is a few years old but it hasn't gotten any better.

Heights. Nothing else. I've been stung by a wasp, a scorpion, I love spiders, killed a snake with a shovel, feel perfectly fine in elevators, been in several earthquakes when I was young...but heights. There was a point where I couldn't even walk near the railing at my University's Union, cause it was about 15' down to the concourse. The railing was over a foot wide, and concrete.

I got a little better where I can walk next to glass railings on the second and third floors without feeling much different, but I'm never going up the Empire State building. I'm not afraid of falling either.

Human centipedes.

But in all seriousness, real centipedes and millipedes are gross as fuck. You couldn't pay me enough to touch one of those buggers.

I can see why people are afraid of this but I'm painfully shy and don't have trouble with it.

It's not like live speaking to someone on a date or anything where you have to spontaneously make up chit-chat. Usually your speech is canned or semi-canned and you know what you're going to say ahead of time. Much less stressful and scary than a normal conversation.

Sharks / Deep water. Cuse i don't know how to swim....

"Well just stay out of the water!"

But i live by the beach!. I go Boogie boarding / body surfing, just don't go to far off. I have also gone on whale watching trips and start to panic when i start thinking that i am floating on top of a large mass of endless water. :hot:

My dumb ass probably knows how to swim, just not aware of it. :whistle2:#

There's kind of a lot of things I'm afraid of.
Heights-
Spiders-Only like the big ones not the small ones.I remember my Science teacher bought a tranchilla. She let all of us touch it.I just could not do it and left to another table when she came to our table.
Roller Coasters-For some reason I hate roller coasters.I have never been in a roller coaster when I have been to Six Flags etc.
Public Speaking-I hate it.It's just I turn really red when I'm in front of a big crowd. It has actually gotten better this year.Since I had choir I would have to go in front of the class on Fridays and do a solo.Glad I'm out of that class now.
Swimming-This year I had gym and we were going to do swimming. As soon as I heard that I went straight to the counselor to get my schedule changed.I just have a fear of drowning.

I'm more afraid of transforming soda machines personally. Oh and that my 360 will be pissed if it ever gains consciousness.
