zelda 2008 website!?! what do you want from zelda wii thread returns!

the old zelda wii thread has made a return! why? because of this news:

there has been a zelda website made, but before you get exited, it is unknown if it is official. it was made under godaddy.com, the sponsors of cag foreplay. although, it looks very profesinial. you can view it her. coming soon?!?! bah....

What I'm expecting (yet another OoT remake) and what I want (something completely new and almost unrecognizable as Zelda using the unique functionality of the Wii) have nothing to do with each other.

- Wind Waker-esque style. Not necessarily Link be a young kid, but a vibrant, cell-shaded adventure.

- A mixing up of the formula as Phantom Hourglass started to do. I think they'll be a little bit more bold with the changes the next go-round, as some of the head-honchos said that TP was the last console Zelda in the "normal" style. I'm interested to see what they do.

Basically another Twighlight Princess type game with better graphics (use Wii's power, do something on par with Mario Galaxy but in the TP style) and a larger world.

Not a big fan of cartoony cel shaded graphics in general. But of course would still play it as gameplay is king.

props up to daroga, I loved phantom hourglass, and I would like a cell-shaded adventure complete with new elements. I think everybody is sick of the ol' nostaglia

phantom hourglass completely rebuilds how one plays zelda, but it also does a fairly same ol' approach to the game's story.
I would like a wii zelda to rebuild the experience the way oot changed from lttp, But I'd also like the zelda story to be changed, drastically if possible. Let us play as ganon, have zelda betray link, shake up the formula a bit.

I know there's a difference of opinions here, but I really liked the style of Wind Waker. Sure, there were a few issues (sailing, short game) but it brought more memories of Link to the Past than any other console Zelda game since then. I hope that Wind Waker doesn't lend itself to only be used on the hand held.

As far as ideas of what should be in the next Zelda...

Exploring - Sure, Zelda has been somewhat linear to an extent, i.e. kill this boss, proceed to next dungeon. But I felt Twilight Princess was way too linear and there was almost little to no reward for exploring. With previous Zelda games there were tons of caves and dungeons that were by no means required to visit, but were there for the curious explorer. There was not enough hidden secrets to find in Twilight Princess, and I pretty much obtained everything on the first play through.

Difficulty - Maybe it was because I was a kid and it seems harder now, but I'm looking for the next Zelda to take a step up in difficulty. I don't want to be able to easily obtain everything upon the first play through, I want to be stumped when I reach certain puzzles. A lot of difficulty seems to have been lost in the translation from 2D to 3D. I realize they may want to try to push Zelda out to more masses, but I think that would almost ruin the essence that is Zelda.

Minigames - Okay, so maybe I'm a sucker for games in Zelda but that was one of the few things I liked about Majora's Mask. There were plenty of other things to do when you weren't saving Hyrule. Every hero needs a break now and then.

I think whatever team is working on it needs to sit down and consider, what is the essence of Zelda? What makes a Zelda game, Zelda? I suppose the most difficult thing is giving the series of fresh air that it needs while still keeping it "Zelda". That's no easy task.

Oh and delays. Please don't announce it until you're sure you're ready to announce it. I hate hearing "bla bla in 2008" only to be released 2 years later.

Link is a rugged, crass, but somehow charming soldier in the distant post-apocalyptic future. The Master Sword replaced with a variety of weapons, mostly projectile.

I envision few colors. Mostly gray. Maybe a little brown. But a lot of gore. Lots and lots of gore.

Truly, a next-gen Zelda.

zelda already has blood, try slicing open a bulbin in TP. it doesent have decapitations but remember the end of wind waker? and as for prostitution, nintendo better put that into the next game or I will kill myself
I applaud the two above posts, albeit for opposite reasons.

Myself, I just want to see some god damn 1:1. Or 2:1. Whatever. I just think that if a god damn tech demo can do it with a baseball bat, there's no damn excuse for "mere waggle" anymore.

Also, don't play softball with us. I don't think I saw a Lizalfos in Twilight Princess until I was 65% through. Giving us a billion new sword moves and having us fight enemies that die in two hits is not a good way to go.
As cool as this may seem, I think there's a major issue.

Tactile feedback. The reason why it's easy enough to do with a baseball bat, is because typically a swing is a "full swing" with nothing to stop the momentum of the bat. With a sword, things get a little tricky. What do you do if you swing and something in-game conflicts with the movement of the sword? Does the player need to "adjust" their position to match the in-game position? Does the in-game character "snap" to the position held by the Wiimote? There's a lot of things to consider, which is why I think we'll never see a 1:1 mapping. We might see something close to where a directional swing will cause the game to swing in the direction of the swing, but never a direct 1:1.

I don't disagree that it would be very cool to see, I have fantasies about it myself. It's just not something that I see as very feasible on the Wii. But I suppose if anyone is to make an attempt at pulling it off, it would have to be Nintendo.

Hmm, i don't like cel-shading, so the TP art style would be nice, but better graphics that suit the wii. Also, controls need to be fixed up. Tp was kinda easy, even to Ages

the second zelda game on each console tends to be the "weird" one.

-- AOL changed the perspective
-- MM broke the formula to a pretty large extent
-- FSA was a multiplayer connectivity extravaganza

so, i don't think we're gonna get a clone of TP or OOT or whatever. i think they are gonna go the route of MM and make it similar in style, but crazy in terms of the story and quest. i'd love to see something like that.

it could be very similar to what BlueLobstah is saying... more exploration (think of all the crap there was to do and collect in MM), more difficulty (while MM was not really 'difficult,' the time element made it seem more weighty) and a game that is different that the norm, but still has a zelda feel.

as for the 'realistic vs. cel-shading' debate... do you guys think nintendo would ever be so bold as to release both? sell 2 versions of the game. one with more realistic TP graphics, rated T and aimed at an adult crowd looking for graphics. then a second version, same game, but with cel-shaded graphics, rated E10 or something and targeted toward younger children. everybody wins. and it's not like nintendo doesn't ever release 2 versions of the same game. the oracles are a great example, and pokemon has been doing this for years, just without the same cross-marketing potential.

just a thought.

oh... and i could do without rollgoal

A crossbow.

Oh, and this is just an idea I came up with, but I based it off the whole dressing kids up like Link thing from WW. I think it'd be cool if they had like an army of Links in a game. Like an army for Hyrule where every soldier was dressed up in the green tunic and hat and you control one of them that may or may not (may) be the actual legendary hero. And maybe Ganon would have his own castle and his own army as well.

its fair to say everybody wants something different that will change the series forever, but there is no way nintendo are going to please everyone. is this going to be the first truly BAD zelda game ?

No.

Maybe?

We know nothing. Why would anyone in their right mind try to make judgement calls?

very true.

nobody can judge this game, and as I said before not one bit of info has been released for this game. a bad game? no idea. but will nintendo screw it up? possible ,but hopefully not

I'm tired of people wanting change. The problem isn't the gameplay. We don't need some freaking new way of playing, like Phantom Hourglass. fuck that POS! If you want to play something else, go play Zack and Wiki.

We need to change the fucking characters and environments! How many fucking times do we have to see the Gorons, et all?

Ocarina was cool because it introduced new environments and characters. Since then, we've see the same exact worlds, only in different style graphics.

I can only imagine how stupid this next Zelda is going to be, considering the things people want and how well Phantom Hourglass did.

did anyone notice wind waker and phantom hourglass trying to push new characters? the rito and korok were introduced in WW but were never seen again ( apart from the PH rito postman ) and more recently, the anouki were introduced. dont complain about new characters. and by the way, I AM going to play zack and Wiki, and there isnt any problem with zelda, nobody is trying to perfect it, but the Oot formula is getting tiresome, and change is needed

The boss fights in Twilight Princess were too easy. Morpheel didn't really do anything, and neither did that spider boss. Also, Hyrule Field was blank. It was like "RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, KILL RANDOM ENEMY, TREE, BUSH, RUN" and you there was nothing to do. Castle Town was boring. So,
Less FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER FILLER, and more replay value.

I'm not sure what I want, but what I don't want for the a Wii Zelda are dungeons solved by doing Sudoku, Picross, Mii-finding, and trying to guess how the 'boss' would answer the binary-choice question eight out of ten times.

Am I right, young people?

(Prepare to be indignant...NOW!)

I would like to see a Miami-Vice themed Zelda game where Ganon is like some major 80's cocaine drug lord and Link and Princess Z roll around in a convertible called Epona that is sort of like Kit from Night Rider. I would also like to see modern weapons like in Rainbow Six instead of swords and boomerangs. Night vision wouldnt hurt either.

Seriously though, I dont think Big N would ever make TWO versions of the same game (one cell shaded and one liek TP). I personally loved windwaker and the sailing parts so seeing another cell shaded installment of the series would be fine by me. If not, the graphics and visuals should at least match that of Galaxy.

I seem to be the minority here but I want the core gameply to say the same as it always has: Hub world with dungeons and puzzles and powerups and minibosses and big bosses. I want the enemy to continue to be Gannon and I want to continue to try to help/save princess Z (and Hyrule).

I have no problem seeing the Goron's and Zora's again and get a happy feeling of nostalgia every time I do. One major change I would like to see is more difficulty. I agree with eveyrone whose said its too easy.

I want the original Zelda game's story (and possibly dungeons/enemies) remade in the style of Twighlight Princess, perhaps with improved graphics.

I don't have any expectations.
zelda horse racing, itll be like mario kart but on horses, with wiimote controls
maybe bundle it with a racing wheel, like links crossbow training bundles with the zapper. im not kidding, I would enjoy that. as long as nintendo dont completly screw it up

No, I'd rather they bundle it with a plastic carriage or something.

I'd rather see them bundle it with a rocking horse attachment; you could use the Wii remote and nunchuck around the rocking horses neck as reins.

Yee-haw!:twoguns:

This sounds petty, but I want the GC controls from Wind Waker back. Goddamn that game controlled well. (I played the Wii version of TP so I missed out on the chance to replay them.) If I had to choose art styles/graphics, I'd go with the look of Wind Waker, too. WW, especially the first half, felt more "alive" to me than all TP. TP was kind of a slog for me on two counts: 1) the graphics IMO took a lot of the emotion and characterization out of the game that was so apparent in WW through the cel shading and 2) the forced waggle.

I think the idea of removing Link from his universe (Gorons, Deku, Zorons, Tingle, so on) is not a winner. They're adding new elements a little bit at a time without abandoning the familiar stuff. That's the right path.

I'm still smitten with the cute pirates from WW, and I guess Phantom Hourglass picks up on that. One thing re: pirates that they could add is ship battles. I enjoyed it in Skies of Arcadia on the DC, but wished at the time that those battles were a little more complex. Zelda could steal that and beef it up. Just an idea.

Though I haven't played it yet, Phantom Hourglass sounds like it's taking the series in a good direction. I'm excited about the next console Zelda title in spite of the fact that I really didn't enjoy TP, all things considered. However, the esteem I have for WW and what I've heard of PH has me anticipating the next Zelda.

if nintendo release a new cell-shaded zelda with a new ship and more shipcustomization than PH, the usual dungeons and a good story I'll be pleased.

on another subject who here wants tingle in the next game?

and I know I'm going of topic here, but I have only noticed something about phantom hourglass, ( those who havent finished this game or links awakaning do not open hide spoiler tab )

ph is the same game as links awakaning. link wakes up on an island after being washed up by the sea and gets help by a female, as usual link goes on an adventure. the ending, link fights a dark beast and finds a magic whale. then it turns out it is a dream, but its not. sound familiar? that storyline is the same in both games, with minor differinces

Dothog's post really brought up fond memories of WIndwaker. His mention of the pirates made me think of that guy with the telescope on various islands pointing the circling sea gulls (and accompanying octopusses down under). He would say "Hoooooooooooooooooooy!" Do you remember that guy?
Did you play Phantom Hourglass? It was different and great.
I hate Phantom Hourglass. The control is awkward, the levels are boring and dumbed-down, I hate going back through the main dungeon after every level, and pretty much everything else is borrowed from a previous Zelda game. I didn't play far enough, but I'm sure the Gorons are in it.

Nintendo alienated me from Metroid with the Prime games, and the Zelda franchise seems to be going in that direction as well. I liked Twilight Princess (Gamecube) to a point, but I'm tired of the recycled characters and worlds. I'm not tired of the good old gameplay.

It's hard to reinvent something so classic and well-known without alienating a lot of the fanbase.

Some suggestions though:
Crank up the difficulty a little - Using the Wiimote actually makes things a bit easier to handle.
Bring back the magic meter! - Now that we have the Wiimote, how about a few magic spells from the Ice/Fire wands?
Less linear - Maybe taking different paths will enable different outcomes?
Bigger world - I think it's time we see what's outside of Hyrule, or even below it.
Make him a southpaw again - Just because he's left handed doesn't mean we still can't have right-handed controls

Whatever they plan to do, I hope as a pre-order bonus, they give us Wind Waker with TP controls.

you hate everything . look at your sig. everyone here agrees that ph is a great game. the controls are fantastic and new, why are you complaining about what everyone is praising about ph? stop being so negative.

and by the way pittpizza, if you havent played ph, that very man makes a cameo in the south-east corner travellers ship, he is a member of the hoho tribe ( his famous quote )

ITA. Phantom Hourglass is phenomenal. It's hard to imagine, but they've actually brought innovation to the grappling hook! I hope they incorporate that into a future Wii Zelda game.

I agree. I would love a multiple end zelda. and exploring outside hyrule...and below it? you mean like the oracle games subtarosia ( that was below holodrum/labrynna though ) and making link a righty? that would upset fans, and im not kidding

I never played the GBC Zeldas, so I had no idea. Link was right-handed in TP, right? I said that I wanted him to be left-handed again, just with right-handed controls. There's really no reason why we can't waggle the Wiimote with our right hand and onscreen Link slashes with his left hand.

You hate fantastic games, I guess. Sorry. :(

Anyone (else) who hasn't played Phantom Hourglass, give that a run. It's fantastic from beginning to end with quite a few new surprises and twists on the Zelda formula.
