It was the Gameboy Camera. The Zelda edition was gold in color and also had some special pictures/icons/images built into it. When you plug it into a GB, they can be acessed. I think the art style followed the GBA games - Oracle of Ages, etc.

So it is a limited edition of the original device, pretty cool find.
