here is the offensive comic

Pretty typical goon bullshit. They cried out for attention, they got it, etc. Can't they obsess with pornstars instead? Most of them have hourly rates.

Glad to see gamers aren't the misogynists we thought they were.

Many step up to the plate if the delicate frame of Gabe Newell is slandered for his...fondness...of Hostess King Dongs. I'm sure we'll see a similar outpouring of outrage from gamers who demand women be respected.

I think they are.... wait for it..... blowing it out of proportion.

What is this, bizarro world?

Well that was pretty mean spirited and I didn't find it funny in the least (and I love toilet humor).

However, Ubi is pointing it's guns at the wrong people.

rule 34 in effect.

but really, pretty lame execution of whatever point they were trying to make. just came off as your typical shock value comic.

The comic was in pretty poor taste.
It was bound to happen... I mean, Jade was pushed around these events a lot by Ubisoft to advertise the game. And those SA guys do this stuff all the time and this one was pretty tame.

some other guy did it. if somethingawful did it, it probably would've been funny.

I don't know...I think the point is a pretty valid one, crudeness aside. But this clearly goes too far. I mean, she would never actually BLOW a gamer.

Cancel the preorder then?

Its obvious that Ubisoft pushed Raymond to the front of the Assassin Creed hype bandwagon in order to use her sex appeal to help sell the game to horny nerds. Im sure there were any number of doughy male developers on the team that could have talked up the game alot better than she did.

So yeah, I get the point they were trying to make, but I think a nice Penny Arcade strip could have hammered that same point home without being offensive, and actually being funny.

Pfft, Ubi is dreaming. SA will claim parody, as always.

And seriously, they deserve it. The way they've been using Jade Raymond as a publicity stunt is just disgusting and retarded, and has really soured me on the game, though I know I shouldn't let such real-world factors infringe on my opinion of a game.

Seriously though, I can't stand seeing Raymond's face anymore.

Agreed. Seriously, the whole fiasco has cut my respect for Ubisoft by about half.

Ya know, we should have seen the game being less-than-stellar from a mile away; seriously, there's a reason they tried to use the sex appeal of their producer to build up hype.

Factor in rumors about how Ubi tried to fix reviews for the game, and is currently furious and pulling advertisments from some sites that gave it less than an 8, and you basically have Ubisoft looking uglier than EA on a bad week.

Here's someone from SA who's opinions I agree with:
it's not that we're a bunch of creepy, disgusting virgin geeks, it's that jade raymond is a slut who doesn't deserve to be in this industry because she's attractive!

this shit crossed the line from creepy into like zodiac territory a long ass time ago

Who gives a shit if it's in poor taste? What the fuck is wrong with you PC assholes? Ubisoft whored her out. If you disagree with that, you have not been paying ANY attention. They are just poking fun at that. It's called A: Freedom of Speech and B: A fucking sense of humor. Maybe they, and some of you, should look into both of those. Did I laugh at the comic? No. But I sure as hell understood where they were coming (I swear to God, no pun intended) from.

Edit: For the record, for those that don't bother to read the complaint, it's a cease and desist request, not a seeking of damages. They'll probably pull it just to avoid the hassle. Complete bullshit, and I WILL remember this the next time I'm considering an Ubisoft game, but since they mostly produce shit, it probably won't really matter one way or the other.

I'm glad she is sueing that is in bad taste and disrespectful to her.I know enough about law to say that ubisoft and jade would win this lawsuit easily.

I completely agree, but at the same time I don't how ubisoft can be shocked that someone out there would take it to this level.Surely they don't think that gamers are so naive that we're going to believe that there wasn't another dev. and/or pro. who was just as qualified if not more so to be heading the PR hype of this game.

So of course,sex/sex appeal sells, even in the gaming industy but whoever made the comic didnt need to go that far to this point,as most people with common sense already knew it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHA.

Well, look, I can see that you're a bar-certified E-lawyer and all, but maybe you need to brush up on your understanding of a certain concept known as parody, and it's protection under free speech.

If you think that this sort of parody of a "celebrity" (as it were) is even uncommon, you're wrong.
...but whoever made the comic didnt need to go that far to this point,as most people with common sense already knew it.
And who are you to say that for anyone but yourself? It's fine if you want to say that you personally found it excessive, but does that mean that the cartoonist doesn't have the right to draw and display their work? Spoiler: No, it doesn't. Freedom of speech is so underrated these days. :/

Anyone that thinks this silly little comic went "too far" is a pussy. Seriously. Do all you guys get so upset every time you hear Paris Hilton called a cocksucker? Oh, wait, no, you don't, because she's filthy. You guys get do upset over Jade Raymond, though, because most of you want to fuck Jade Raymond. Lie through your teeth and deny it, but you know it to be true.

Also, the thread title is inaccurate. Ubi hasn't sued anyone. They've issued a pussy-ass Cease & Desist order to SA which, of course, SA is going to completely ignore, because they're SA. They eat C&D orders for breakfast.

gosh everyone is such pussies now, lawsuit this and cry baby that.

It's the fuking internet who gives a shit? They should be more worried about how the game sells. Not about the whore pitching the game.

Well we got an interent thug here. The reason ppl dont care when paris is labeled a slut is becuase A)she a talentless stuck up heiress B)in a sextape that everyone knows about and C)Flashes the whole world and there mother whenever she can.

Now if this Jade Raymond has done anything remotely close to that I can see the comic being valid, but making her seem like a jumpoff because ubisoft plastered her face everywhere is ignorant.

And dont rope me into your stereotypical "everyone wants to fuck jade" because I'm married to a woman who I think is alot better looking than her and have seen looking chicks bagging grocieries at my local supermarket than this chick.

So save that tough guy shit for when your not behind a computer screen.

BTW if you have any evidence to support that raymond is a slut (since your comparing her to one) than that would definatley change my opinion of the whole situation, but until then seems ur talking out your ass.

Man, seems like you took that pretty personal. Funny, I don't recall prefacing the thing by saying "HEY XXTHEYCALLMEDXX, THIS MESSAGE IS SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU AND YOU ALONE."

So save that tough guy shit for when your not behind a computer screen.
Okay. Let's duke it out IRL.

Well, quoting me specifically and than then saying anyone who has a different opinion than you is a pussy was justification enough for me to respond.

Maybe i'm missing something but how does a company exploiting one of its employess make her a slut?

I could honestly care less about her as person becuase I dont know from a hole in the wall, but I was giving my opinion on the article, not critiqueing other ppls posts.

and yeah im definately down for fighting to settle whether some chick neither of us knows is truly a slut of not.

Rad. We should meet atop Mount Rushmore, and duke it out in epic fashion while standing on Abe Lincoln's nose.

I shall be dressed in a karate gi that looks like the American flag, and you can dress like a Soviet.

Spoiler: I win, because I'm America.

PS: Look, just to clarify, because we seem to have a confusion of terms here: I don't know whether Jade Raymond is a slut in the traditional sense, as in, being sexually promiscuous. But slut means more than that. Jade Raymond is undeniably a video game media slut, being paraded around like a whore by Ubi, and that's the point I'm making.

in regards to the fight....touche

as for your p.s I think your pussy comment prolly just set me off when it really shouldn't have.Comparing her to Paris intially led me to think you meant it in a traditional sense. However, looking back,Paris is a slut in many different meanings of the word, including a media slut.

I saw one of your previous posts where you quoted someone from SA,and I must say I also agree with that quote.I still think trying to convey the message "your a media slut" or "Ubisoft is whoring you out" by showing her go down on 2 nerds is grimey, but at the end of the she ain't my chick so fuck it lol.
Nicely Said.
Yeah, nicely said indeed.

To paraphrase what XX said:
"Jade Raymond isn't literally a slut by the traditional definition, as in, a sexually promiscuous woman, and thus, this comic, which draws figurative parallels to her being used for her looks to promote an overhyped videogame, makes no sense and is completely inappropriate and unnecessary! Hooray, I don't tolerate or understand blatant metaphor and parody! I can only think in literal terms! Oh and by the way she isn't even that hot and I'm married, so don't think I'm defending her because she gets my noodle going or anything."

Yeah, nicely said. She's not this one sexual definition of slut, so she can't be this other one that describes a woman used for her looks by the media to attract attention to something. Way to miss the point.

EDIT: Okay, I just saw your above post. Glad to see you understand what I meant now. Again, nothing personal. :) And I really hope you can take the above paraphrasing of you in the joking/ribby way I meant it. :p

And hey Mugen, I'm still interested in seeing your Web Lawyer credentials.

Yeah,I think with the lack of sleep made me forgot to never take postings on forums too seriously.I honestly never understood why gamers think women like raymond and webb are hot just because there involved in gaming, when comparing them to women outside of the gaming industry makes them seem average (imo).

and yeah, either your paraphasing skills are terrible..or I'm an idiot...

Dont respond to that lol.

I happen to think Jade is hot wether shes in the gaming biz or not. And I work in NYC in Midtown Manhattan. I used to work for Calvin Klein, I worked in Television, and I worked in the Loreal cosmetics building. All that means is Im used to seeing the hottest women in the world on a daily basis, and I still think Jade is hot. But to each their own. :D

Sounds like you've had some pretty interesting jobs/Career.I'm not saying that she's ugly or anything, but before I knew who she was ppl made her up to be some incredible flawless woman. When I actually saw a few interviews with her it was just like.."ok,is that who all this hype is about?".Born and raised in NYC,maybe I'm just spoiled to what in imo is a city with some the best looking women I've ever seen, but I just think some gamers to put her up on too high of a pedestal....Now layla kayleigh on the other hand .... lol.

by pushing her into the front of the assasins creed team they made her a public figure, making her a possible subject to parody and satire. If she was a nameless programmer and they did this she could have a case, but fame can be a double edged sword in America. Though if she sues in England she might have a chance at winning.

ohh and maybe they should sue less people and instead working on a game that gets Universal 9s or at least 8s even.

Parody is one thing to weigh in here. Libel and defamation of character are others. It's not so cut and dry, guys. Not that I know jack-crap about law or anything ;)

Oh my. Looks like CoffeeEdge brought back his fabled ability to make himself the center of attention, ironically enough in a thread about Ubisoft making Jade Raymond the center of attention. Just can't resist revolving the universe around you, can ya?

Again, I had to google image search Jade Raymond b/c I didn't think I'd seen her before. So it turns out I had, but not a revolting degree. Some of y'all like to come off like Ubisoft hyped her so much that she was on every page of EGM, when in reality she's a producer (a rather high profile position), and what really separates her from the David Jaffes, Peter Molyneuxs, David Perrys (okay, that's an easy one: she's making games people buy), and other fevered-egos of the game industry at the producer level? Y'all act like it's an act of tragedy and subterfuge that a game producer doesn't look like a lazy-eyed schmuck, and decry that the lone example of a high-profile female at the producer in the games industry must be the result of them wanting to "sex up" the development end of a title! Think about that for a moment.

Or not; you can giggle about how she's been whored out, and she loves cock...and that makes you classless, certainly not clever, and truly lacking in things to validly criticize her/the game for.

Besides, you all really expose your sexism as a consequence of me never once seeing any "Reggie Fils-Aime/Major Nelson/Whatever Dumbass Foot-in-Mouth Disease Moron Sony's Parading Around Now loves cock and will suck your dick if you buy their games" arguments. What do you think *they* do all day?

The comic is in poor taste but I can see the point they're trying to make, I posted in another thread that I believed Assasins Creed had got more attention that it probably deserved due to Jade Raymond being pushed to the forefront when it came to the games PR.

I take your point to some degree Myke but I would say the difference between Jade Raymond and the other notable producers you mentioned is Ubisoft did things like release pics which were one half a pic of jade the the other half a line of text saying Assasins Creed. I think it's naive to not think that at least they were aiming to get a bit of extra publicity for the game using her looks.

The comic is very crude though so I'm not entirely surprised they're getting sued.

I didn't see those; google gave me a few pictures of too-bright teeth and sweaters. A cursory glance, sure, but I'd imagine any tawdry images would show up right away if they existed.

I don't consider myself a thick person, and I do follow the game industry rather closely. I never thought of AC as "Jade Raymond's game." Guess I'm alone.

It did seem like it to me sometimes but that's just my opinion. I certainly wasn't calling you thick dude, sorry if it seemed like that, I fully retract any "Myke is thick" insinuation.

EDIT - And actually I agree with the posters who have said it must be tough for a woman in the games industry, and also I'd like to see people treated with a bit more respect that that comic does.
