Left 4 Dead 2 (PC) $30 (360) $40 - Amazon 18 Deals/Days

I got this for $29.99 for PC during their BF daily specials. It's nice to see that some companies haven't completely abandoned the PC market (COD MW2 only sold 170k copies, so I'm concerned PC gaming may go the way of the Dodo if this keeps up). Left 4 Dead 2 is meant for online gaming, and though Console online gaming has improved 1000 fold in the last year to two, I still identify playing a game on the internet with PC gaming. Hopefully companies will feel the same way I do, and continue to put out games for the PC market.

Pretty good price if you want it right now. But remember how many times L4D1 went on sale on Steam over the past year or so? It was $15 about a month before L4D2 came out and was $7.50 during the BF sale. It'll be cheaper down the line, guaranteed, but $30 for a month old game isn't bad IMO. The game is awesome too, BTW.

lets put it this way...

i have both Modern Warfare 2 pc and left 4 dead 2 pc. I have logged more than 15 hours on left 4 dead 2 multiplayer so far. i have logged less than an hour on modern warfare 2 multiplayer. i knew going into modern warfare 2 pc that it was going to be castrated, but yeah i pretty much hate the system currently especially the lack of dedicated servers and the stupid network bars that represent your ping. i usually get '3' green bars through matchmaking and thats pretty much supposed to represent a range of 100-200 ping(feels closer to 200 than 100), whereas I am going into left 4 dead 2 dedicated servers with 50 ping (yes a numeric value instead of this dumb bar graph crap in mw2).

edit: sorry turned into a rant. left 4 dead 2 PC is a good buy for 30$ or less in my opinion (even if you own left 4 dead 1).

yea that network bar design choice sounds like just crossover from the console versions.

lfd2 is greatly superior to lfd. if you liked l4d, get l4d2.

I see what you did there...

Decent reasoning and not console bashing :applause:

Also, looks like the deals are starting to pick up, hopefully something nice left on the next two days.

I believe this deal is pretty good.

I read an article last night that Sony was dissappointed with Uncharted 2 sales because as of Dec 1st they had only sold 650K vs the last version at the same time had sold 1.5m. Now, you can say there were a lot of releases yadda yadda......my thing is they should have at least lowered the prices to get more interest. Will be interest if Sony stays their usual stubborness and gets screwed in Jan/Feb with even more new releases or if they will finally lower the price and get some of the volume they want.

Also interesting was the Sony was worried that single console titles are selling less than multiple console titles even when adjusted for single console normal sales.

Sony will have to report to their board and stock holders at the end of the month -- interesting to see if they do anything to pad the sales volume.

Left 4 Dead is a good game. I would try to at least play the first one. I was able to get the first one for a good price. The second game is still high. I advise people to wait until steam lowers there price sometime in early 2010. It will happen and then you can get it for a good price.

TurboPascal, I bought Uncharted 2 (used) from gohastings. I never realized that a good game that should be GOTY (Game of the Year) is not selling well. I think console games generally are way too expensive. $60 is not something most people like spending. I believe if the retail price of Uncharted 2 was $40 dollars then the game would be able to sell well and then it would do well. The game will sell well over 2010 but you are right in that there are some good title for the first quarter (Jan to Mar 2010).

Sony is still losing money in the PS3 but less than a year. The PS3 exclusives although good games generally do not sell that much. I guess you can think of 2009 games of inFamous, Uncharted 2, Demon Souls and others as selling less than Modern Warfare 2 and other mulitplatform titles.

Where did you get that sales figure on MW2?
Sad, because probably 1 million PC gamers pirated it in the first week.
It's also the top selling game on Steam, is the PC market really that dead?

might be getting the pc version. i already have the 360 version and im pretty sure my rig can handle it. thanks.

Well L4D1 still runs for $30 unless you wait for Steam deals, so this is as good as it gets. As for the 360 version, they'll probably just release a GOTY edition and continue charging $50+ for quite some time.

They'll probably blame the PC gamers for not buying enough copies and use that as ammunition for continuing to support consoles first and PC as an afterthought or not at all in the future. However, they are creating their own problems by releasing shoddy console ports on the PC. Just look at the differences between the 2 Modern Warfare games ( evident by the customer reviews on Amazon) people want to buy the game and many have but when the reality sets in can they really blame the PC gamer?

As far as I am concerned, PC gaming is not dead and there is a huge market out there but us PC gamers have certain expectations and will not buy just any lazy console port. One reason why I'll still buy games like Left 4 Dead 2 and not wait for rock bottom prices or wait patiently for a release like Mass Effect is that they feel like a hot entree while other lazy console ports just feel like cold leftovers and I'll use the funds I would have spent on those games to support other companies that still design for the PC.

Are servers in L4D2 better than L4D1? I only put in 20 hours into that game and ran into quite a few issue with their dedicated servers; matches where players would keep lagging/stuttering around the map forcing us to restart and even a few peculiar cases where we'd start up a campaign and the server got confused and thought we were playing versus (except no one was on the infected team). Afterwards, I saw there was an option to host your own game (basically P2P) and have yet to have any lag or other strange issues happen with that. It's funny since that's the only game I played recently where I consistently had issues with dedicated servers.

I also own MW2 PC and save for the occasional game that disconnects for no apparent reason, I've really been enjoying it. I used to wonder why I could never get into CoD4 on PC when I always used to play on 50-60 man servers; turns out these smaller player counts work out much better for me. So personally, the P2P system hasn't really bothered me.
when does this deal end?
Usually around 24 hours from the start of the sale, so midnight Pacific
Are servers in L4D2 better than L4D1?
I don't see any noticeable difference. Sometimes, I'll be on a server where I have 100 and vice versa. Other times, everyone has >100, or everyone has

I don't think Left 4 Dead 2 servers are better than Left 4 dead 1, but maybe there's just more of them since Left 4 Dead 2 is a newer release. Anyway, the very first game I played on Left 4 Dead 1 had soem similar issues you had (biggest one was playing on what looked like a server from another country and super high ping), however afterward I went into Steam and set my download region setting to the city closest to where I was, and I didnt get the problem again. Dont know why it worked but it could just be that it started picking local region dedicated servers instead of ones like in another country.

You can always go into the console and set it so the lobby connects to your desired server.
Overall, I think dedicated servers are, for some reason, laggier on average than L4D2. Still beats local hosting most of the time, though

It has the same chance of being on 360 as Halo does on PS3. It will never happen.

He pulled them out of his ass. Look at the steam stats for MW2:

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
(click View Steam players per game)

COD:MW2 is one of the first games to beat out CS:S and CS consistently since release. As of right now, MW2 has 53k players in game and it peaked at 97k at some point in the day. So if this guy is trying to say it only sold 170k yet close to 100k were playing it today - that's a ridiculous percentage of players that bought the game that were online playing multiplayer today. Yes, that's right I'm not even including individuals that are playing single player.

To give you some further indication of the BS nature of his figure, L4D2 can only be played on Steam and thus all players would be accounted for (the same way as MW2) yet L4D2 doesn't differentiate between multiplayer and singleplayer, so it already gets the upper hand. That said, 15k are playing right now and it peaked at 20k earlier in the day. COD:MW2 is beating the crap out of L4D2 in terms of players.

So if he's saying COD:MW2 failed, then L4D2 failed way harder, but at the end of the day his comment is just some bullshit figure and PC gaming is doing just fine

Current top games based on # of players:
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2
2. Counterstrke: Source
3. Counterstrike
4. Team Fortress 2
5. Left 4 Dead 2

Thanks for the heads up on the 360 price! I just purchased it as a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law @ $50.00 on the 7th. I just put in an email for a price match/credit.

Somehow I managed to get an opened copy of L4D2 at Half Price Books that had an unused serial for $12.98. I thought there was no chance that it hadn't been used yet and I couldn't believe it when the code actually worked!

Peak Players(today) Game
97,873 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer
91,058 Counter-Strike: Source
72,808 Counter-Strike
20,770 Team Fortress 2
20,040 Left 4 Dead 2
15,607 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (single player)

I always get a laugh though that Counterstrike Source, a 5-6 year old game still has 90k+ players...and its basically a remake of Counter Strike which has 72k players. If the counterstrike population weren't such a dichotomy, MW2 wouldn't even have a chance of beating Counterstrike an arguably 10 year old mod.

MW2 has nothing on CS 1.3, back when it was still taking off. It's a joke what these corporate greed companies push on kids these days and they'd have been laughed off the internet if they tried to pull the same shit back then.

Idk what you're talking about. CS is shit.

Quit being a fan boy-- MW is the dominating "franchise-line" in FPS.

I quit CS many, many years ago after Valve started digging their claws in and turning it to shit. The only thing MW is dominating is naive kid's wallets.
