Downloading now, can't wait to listen to what these guys have to say about the past year. =)

Im downloading aswell, time to get my fix, been too long!

Ok listening now, first comment: Shipwreck, why does Gerstmann have terrible taste in games? I can understand that you can disagree with him, i do aswell sometimes, but claiming that someone has bad taste is quite juvenile, He problably has different taste from you, that however does not make it bad. I find myself disagreeing with your opinion on games, i still enjoy hearing your thoughts and i don't think your taste is bad, just different, and diversity is great.

I'm not sure why Jeff Gerstmann has terrible taste in games. That is a question only he can answer.

I was being juvenile. Jeff Gerstmann and I actually liked a lot of the same games and I realize that I enjoy a lot of subpar games.

You had a pretty good deadpan while you talked about bad taste in games.

What game is Shipwreck talking about? The one he compares to Dragon Age. Website stream doesn't do rewind. Grr. Super-Programmer John can you do anything about that? ;)

I was about to go running at the beach but I decided to check if the CAGcast was up and boy am I glad I did. I always have to listen to them at work so this'll be cool not having to do that cause then I always forget what I want to comment on >:{

Hey, there's def nothing wrong with that buddy! years of internetz has just made me frown when people tell others thier opinion is bad as if somehow they think thiers is right, i guess the internet ruined me!

Anyways listened to the whole thing now, great show! the last 2 have been unusually extra awsome!

Cheers

Wombat is a cheater! Fallout 3 doesn't count.

Thanks for the podcast. I like the informal "favorite" game chatter. Very few of us play everything, so it's good to hear people like us.

Wombat: And than when I moved I gained about 40lbs
Cheapy: That's a lot for a guy who's five foot two
Wombat: 5'6... Let's be realistic...

I will echo Cheapy's sentiments about Bayonetta. Pretty good game, but not a 9 or 10. You can skip the cutscenes, but my problem is that it's not simple to skip them. You have to press 3 buttons to skip them. My main gripes of the game are there's too much stuff on screen and somehow, someway, they made the camera worse than what is in Ninja Gaiden.

Also Cheapy and/or Shipwreck, I present to you a challenge. Play through a single chapter of Bayonetta with a Fight Stick. I guarantee you will be surprised with the results.

And to just to gloat, all Star Coins, all Shiny Stars in NSMBW for me, Shipwreck. Top that!

Man it's been a while, kinda lost a bit of interest since it's been awhile but the last show got me right back in....download....NOW

Gatorade doesn't have that much sugar and G2 has even less.

Wombat- any exercise to go with that diet?

Yay! Show feedback! Hooray!

First things first, congrats on reaching your Childs Play goal yet again, Cheapy and the many CAGS. [edit: words be ganked]

On the DS and PSP mentions... part of me wants to agree with you. I mean DS and PSP were not exactly on par with the bigger consoles, but that doesn't mean they sucked. 2009 had some great titles for both systems. It's just that you HAVE to be paying attention when they drop and with such a great year on the bigger consoles, we really had no chance to check in on the little guys.

And finally, about MAG. I can see why a lot of people hate it. But for me, it's drastically different. This is a PC ass game. Everything about it harkens to titles like Battlefield. It's not going after the MW2 crowd because, quite simply, COD has been a console centric franchise after the second one. MAG's biggest problem, as I see it, is being a PC game put on a console. Console shooters have been holding our hands for so long, a shooter that just kicks you out of a plane with a rifle, a dream, and a mission objective of "kick some ass, soldier" seems generic and plain. But considering the last game we've seen of this type has been Battlefield 2, it's long overdue.

But it's not for everyone. No doubt about that.

This was about as mediocre as a CAG end of the year list could be. That's not a knock against anyone, I know what I'm getting into when I listen to the cagcast at this point.
Some very interesting picks this year from everyone and I definitely appreciate the fact that Cheapy clarified that this wasn't the end all best of list but rather just his favorite games of 2009. I also noticed that Cheapy has pretty big issues with the integrity of game reviewers but maybe this could be a discussion on the next live show.

Wombat, dude, that diet sounds untenable. Instead of complicating things to that degree and denying yourself so many foods, why not just go with the math: eat less, exercise more? I promise that works.

I dropped 55 lbs. last year by simply bringing my daily calorie intake down and walking 40 minutes a day. I didn't deny myself any food that I love--I just made the trade-off. Eat a doughnut and you just lost 400 calories that you could have used on your dinner. Simple. No meat? No sugar? No bread? No fucking way.

Still, best of luck and I hope it works for you, mister.

I thought MUA2 was a million times better than the first one. The original MUA's menus were the worst looking menus ever. I liked MUA2 characters having only 4 skills. It sucked to have to pick and chose 3 skills out of like 8 or 9 in the first one. Plus they replaced the super moves from MUA with the combos in MUA2 which was another vast improvement.

Great CAGcast as usual. I was surprised about some of the 2009 pics but most of them I knew you guys would pick since I've been listening to the CAGcast all year.

Here's to a cheap ass 2010.

Woot!

Concerning the CAGcast downloads, you'd be surprised how many people download the old episodes. I first started listening to the CAGcast during the summer(CAGcast 164) and loved it so much that I downloaded and listened to every episode.

Also Wombat, don't give up on your diet. It's going to suck but once you start seeing results it'll motivate you to keep going, just hang in there for a bit. I lost 70 lbs recently by changing my diet and working out every day and it was tough at first but once I had seen that I had already lost 10 lbs it kept me motivated until I had lost 70. I am currently at it again cause I wanna lose another 50 lbs(I was at 330 at my peak, currently at 260)and I've been running 5 miles every day these past three weeks.

Shipwreck must have tried hard to ignore the good games on PSP this year. Half-Minute Hero, PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, Patapon 2, Rock Band Unplugged, and Persona were probably the best games of the year. There was still MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Gran Turismo, Kenka Bancho, Crimson Gem Saga, Resistance Retribution, and LocoRoco 2 and Midnight Carnival as the other good games I played this year, as well. 2010 will be better though with games like MGS Peace Walker and Valkyria Chronicles 2 as my two most anticipated games of the year.

You should check out Gravity Crash, Wombat and/or Shipwreck. It's kind of similar, but has a different a style of its own. I don't get how it's slow-paced.

Splosion Man was easily the best XBLA game of the year. Shadow Complex got buggier the more I played it and made the trek towards lvl 50 harder to endure.

Burnout Paradise > Forza 3 as the best racing game ever.

Wombat sucks at describing why RCF: A Crack in Time is different from the other games. Space exploration and much better variety/pacing due to the separation of the two main characters made it a much different experience than the others.

Good show.

How is Crimson Gem? I've been itching for another portable RPG and Star Ocean isn't scratching the itch I thought I had for it.

Cheapy, I wish you had mentioned how much you liked Red Faction: Guerrilla in the thread about the GameFly sale, that would have persuaded me to pick it up. I had totally forgotten you talking about it in past CAGcasts.

You ought to highlight or mention things like that when sales/promotions are featured at CAG.

It's good to see Red Faction getting the respect it deserves. I would agree that it is probably the "funnest"...err...."most fun" game of 2009. If they can implement the GeoMod technology into the Saints Row games, Rockstar would finally have to actually consider making the next GTA game fun.

As a side note, I registered my first domain name tonight using the CAGDOMAIN code.

"theretrosystem.com"

Now, to decide what the hell to do with it.

Great show, keep them coming. As for the live shows, if only the audio was better...

Wombat, stick to your diet. You'll need to give it time to see results but eating better calories and burning more calories will always work.

As for Sacred 2, my wife and I have put in over 150 hours and we're still not at level 200! Burned through Baldur's Gate: DA 1 and 2, both Champions of Norath's in the PS2 days and this is fulfilling that need for loot!

I dunno I really enjoy these end of year shows, the wrap up for 2008 is one of my favourite shows ever. Everyone seems to be in a good mood, I love Cheapy laughing his ass off at the amount of games Ship manages to play each year. Shame he didn't read them off one by one though.

Also shame to see Porno or DS game not returning though.

Keep up the good work and heres to 2010.

I enjoyed this episode a lot but there is one thing I must criticize. Why wasn't there a PC category? There are lots of great games which are released for the PC!

None of us play PC games.

If you've ever listened to the show, you'd know they've talked about playing PC games maybe two or three times in the entire show's run. You'd just get N/A's from them like the PSP and DS categories.
How is Crimson Gem? I've been itching for another portable RPG and Star Ocean isn't scratching the itch I thought I had for it.
It's a solid, straight forward RPG whose only major negative is that there are no dungeon maps, so it's easy to get lost.

All the Jeff Gerstmann comments felt a little weird, especially since there was a lot of overlap between the games you all liked (Borderlands, Shadow Complex, etc.). That guys was reviewing games back before you guys were even born...okay, he wasn't, but he's been doing this for a long time.

Good show guys. Shipwreck, where the hell do you find the time to play over a hundred 2009 released games?

Wombat, don't listen to the Cheapy hate. A Crack in Time was a fantastic game. It was probably my favorite in the series.

You guys should have finished Infamous. The ending was good. Shipwreck, the game was too long? How much time did you put into that Oblivion knockoff you were talking about in the beginning of the show? :) You could have beaten Infamous in another few hours.

Assassin's Creed 2 is so much more fun and enjoyable then the first. I wasn't expecting it to be this good considering AC1 was such a huge snooze fest. Plus, the game is pretty long. There's so much stuff to do. I definitely think it's worth a full price purchase.

Forgot to mention in my earlier post you guys should stop talking about Jeff Gerstmann before he finds you guys and pulls a Gerstmann on you ;D

Dude's right. Torturing yourself will only lessen your odds of success. i went from 230lbs to 165lbs in a little over a year just by reducing the size of meals, eating potato instead of pasta and exercising 45-60min 5 days a week either cycling on an exercise bike or jogging.

But everyone has to do it thier own way. which in the end is the best chance you have to make it, just don't make it to hard on yourself or set unreasonable goals!

Shipwreck, I've played almost if not more games then you this year. I'd list them all, but I'm to lazy. Combined between PS3 and 360 I've played around 150 games. I did just say play, but you know. You may have beaten more than me ;)

Cheapy, I'm a bit surprised that you couldn't get into Sacred 2. It's every bit as good as Baldur's Gate or Champions of Norrath. Though the online play with another player sucks due to lack of dedicated servers.
