There's no price mention anywhere, there's no link for Blu-ray at Best Buy atm. Just saw one for the DVD for $45 at Best Buy

And yes, its limited edition for Blu-ray only & normal slipcase for Blu-ray & DVD, plus this will release early in March, while other retailer will get the normal slipcase in June.

will keep my dvds but it is nice to see that they are throwing in the fade to b&w version of Sympathy Of Lady Vengence, it's really the only way to watch it

Makes me wonder what the print run will be for the limited. I sort of regret not getting the ultra limited steel box edition of Oldboy for the Korean market.

I have all 3 korean releases but would consider an upgrade if the picture quality was improved.

Almost makes me wish someone would put out a bigger collection like Criterion did with Kurosawa. Park Chan Wook's latest "The Thrist" is pretty good. I even enjoyed "I'm a Cyborg, but thats OK."

This is great! I just started watching the trilogy last week again for the first time in a year or two. I own the Oldboy collection that came in a metal tin and I love it. I just started reading the manga that came iwith that set as well.

I didn't even know there was a different version of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Can't wait to see it, especially if it's superior.

The tin you have is the American 3 disc Ultimate edition. The korean version was limited to a couple hundred or less. Also it was a massive handmade copper box. The first release of Oldboy and the 2nd release in the copper box people complain of the difference in picture color. Also, the first release only had a dolby stereo and DTS track. Other regions got a 5.1 DD track.

I don't know if releases in other region for Lady Vengeance had the fade to black version of the movie. This was the original concept but not released theatrically in Korea.

There are some nice Korean limited edition that get released. I'd buy more of them if they weren't so expensive.

Woah! Both versions of Lady! I don't think they have ever been available together in the same package/set before.

I don't even care that this isn't deal because this is the best news I'll hear today.

awesome news! i wonder what kind of price this will be at BB....i think i have a few gift cards I may want to blow on this!

This is pretty much 80% of the reason I want this set so bad, I've never seen the fade to white version. People say I'm crazy but Lady is my favorite of the trilogy.

Jeez, don't even get me started. I'm pretty sure the only folks who got a blu-ray of Thirst and Cyborg were the UK folks. I think Thirst JUST came out on blu in the UK. I'd kill for a US release, it's one of my favorites.
the Korean limited edition, it was the only way to see the b&w version
It wasn't specifically a limited edition. It was the 1st press run that had fade to B & W version of the movie. Most movies in Korea the 1st press run can be considered limited without them specifically saying limited.

Then after the 1st print edition which usually contain a 2nd or 3rd disc and possibly a soundtrack run out. Then they go back to product a single disc re-release if there is enough interest.

Some releases go all out and produce a special edition right off the bat. This is along with the 1st run dual disc. Like my copies of Ahran and Shilmido. I think they over produced on the Silmido special edition because that sucker dropped in price and was put on sale for a long time.

Ahran was in a intricate box covered with handmade paper, with a soundtrack, poster, and post cards.

Another thing I noticed was occasional random things that aren't announced in the 1st run press releases. My Korean version of Save the Green Planet came signed.

Lady Vengeance was pretty good. Also, Lee Young Ae is considered one of the few truely natural beauties on the Korean entertainment industry. Also, before this she had this goody goody image. This was to partly shake that.

My favorite is Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.

Now that we have been on this subject I might need to break out these movies again. I was importing a lot of Korean movie releases from Korea before the movie market there went to the crapper. The quality went way down with few decent releases since then.

There is talks of a Lady Vengeance remake with Charlize Theron.

That dress Lady Vengeance/Geum Ja wears sold for only $600 in an online auction.

Glad to see love for these movies, as a huge Park Chan-Wook fan.

His stuff is consistently good. I recommend any fans of the vengeance trilogy to try out his other works, including: Thirst; I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK; JSA; and don't forget his short contribution to the film Three Extremes, "Cut."

It's worth noting that Thirst is also coming out on March 15th, so Park Chan-Wook fans are going to take a pretty big hit to their wallets come March.

I'm hoping that I'm a Cyborg and JSA make their way to Blu Ray eventually as well.

Yeah importing does suck, I'm pretty close to snagging Memories of Murder. From what I seen it looks fantastic. Just the fact the Vengeance Trilogy is coming out might mean more Korean blus for us sometime down the line.

You and I are the only two people I know who prefer Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance above the rest. I loved Oldboy, and it's hard to hate any in the trilogy, but I just think that Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was the grittiest of the three... The most realistic (in a weird way... Organ harvesting isn't too big of a problem over here) but the end in the river is insane.

The domestic trailer for Mother just came out today and I still would kill to see it. Korea has had a flux of amazing directors the past few years.

Bong Joon-Ho is another fantastic director. I haven't seen Memories, but I did see his monster film "The Host", which was phenomenal.

Korean Cinema in general is pretty up to snuff, some of the most original and best movies out of the last decade have come out of it, and Park Chan-Wook is one of my favorite new directors, I've loved everything I've seen by him(With the exception of Mr.Vengeance, which I thought was alright).

I think that Mr.Vengeance started off pretty amazing, but just went more downhill as the movie went on due to pacing issues. It's Park's most flawed movie, but it's still damn good. I haven't seen Lady Vengeance yet, but Oldboy blew me away. Excellent plot and excellent cinematography. It's just such a high level of film, I really feel like it's a masterpiece.

Gotta agree with Bong Joon-ho doing a great job with The Host, and Korea pumping out some great talent.

As for Mr. Vengeance, I wasn't turned off by the few minor problems it had. I love love love Oldboy, it's hard to hate, and there's no problems with Lady Vengeance at all, but Mr. Vengeance just gets to me.

Cut is close to my favorite project by him. I LOVE Lee Byung-hun (serious man-crush) and it's terrifying and wonderful all at once.

As for my favorite Korean film? Easy.

HAHA, I just watched that movie for the first time last night and really liked it. Loved it? No. Was very fun though, Memories of Murder will always be my fave. I second
Lee Byung-hun being sexy as fuck.
You and I are the only two people I know who prefer Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance above the rest.
And you two are the only people I know who hold that film above the other two. Everyone always thinks I'm insane for this, but while I enjoyed oldboy for its stylistic bombast (among other things) and SFLV for its sheer elegance (again, to simplify), SFMV is such an emotional punch in the face that I can't help but hold it in the highest regard.

I was at a screening of SFMV some years ago and while everyone handed him off copies of oldboy to sign, I was the only one to give him something from SFMV: the insert for the R3 SE DVD set.

Anyway, anyone know anything about different cuts for Thirst? I heard the Korean release will have an alternate cut (longer) but I have yet to see any specific info about it.

I loved how Kim Ji-woon took a genre I think Korea never really had a stake in and turned out one of the best entries to the genre in decades. The three leads were all perfect, and it was hard for me to pick out one that I like above the rest... The action scenes were wonderful, there was comedy, and even drama. I haven't seen Memories of Murder yet, but god, The Good, The Bad, The Weird was such a fun movie to enjoy.
And only for $40 a pop. D:
The problem is majority of the importers overcharge for the korean flicks. Also, even in Korea the average DVD price is usually around $25 or higher. It trips me out when I'm over there and they want $30 for a American DVD that I could get here for $15 or less. Also, tracking down some of these movies is a pain. Especially older releases.

Sometimes it is absolutely worth it to pay the extra and import. Usually they put great care into their DVD releases and special editions. More so then their US counterparts.

With the high rate of digital piracy over there movie prices don't seem to look to go down anytime soon.

My only problem with that poster is that it seems to be the Japanese posters. At least from look at the characters written on it. It sure as heck isn't Korean.

My preference for Mr Vengeance is the lack of real good or evil. A chain of events are started and before long it all spirals out of control.

I'd have to say Chungmro (Korea's Hollywood) has seen better days. There are less then a handful of directors that consistently put out good work. Lots of movies are churned out but the glory days seemed to have passed. Sure they get a couple good flicks that win international award but most are big duds. Majority of the productions place the usual stars in whatever is the trend of the year. A couple years ago everyone was putting out gangster flicks.

I don't know if people got the subtle messages inserted into The Host. I think that is a part of the reason that a vast majority of the people I know seem to hate it. Director Bong Jun Ho's first big hit Memories of Murder was good. It hit all the right notes for a good old fashion murder mystery.

Memories of Murder is based on real life serial killing that occurred in Korea for about a decade leading up to the 1988 Olympics.

The best Korean movie I've seen in the last year or two would be Breathless. This little independent movie kicks the crap out of the big productions by a mile. The director stars in the movie which is partly based on his life.

Take Off which is the story of Korea's first Olympic Ski jump team was formulaics but entertaining. It could have fallen into all the typical pitfalls of the usual underdog story but it entertains while keeping the viewer engaged.

The Good, The Bad, and the Weird just didn't work for me. It felt like it lacked something. I admire the courage to tackle a genre that is not normally associated with or seen in Korean cinema.

I haven't seen The Good, The Bad and the Weird, but I did see
Sukiyaki Western Django which I happened to love.

The main thing I like about Asian Cinema in general is that the difference between American Culture and say, Japanese or Korean Culture is so vast that watching a Korean or Japanese flick is often like watching movies for the first time again as the elements and premises are so different.

Park Wan Chook is a particular good example of this as his horror films are among my favorite ever. I feel like Asian Horror tends to be universally better as it always tends to tip more on the psychological side. While the slasher and torture porn reigns supreme in America, a guy like Chan Wook Park can make a horror film that really says something about a certain situation while also transitioning from genre to genre, it's a pretty big accomplishment.

Also, I'd argue that Oldboy had no good or evil either. It had a protagonist and an antagonist, but given the antagonist's situation, I wouldn't be so clear as to label him a villain.

He was just a man who had a great justice inflicted upon him, and because of it, it consumed his life to where he only wanted to inflict that same pain and thirst for vengeance into the person who inflicted it on him.

It's not about good or evil, it's about how vengeance can consume somebody's life and the tragedy that can only happen as a result of that.

I was in New York for the New York Asian Film Festival, and I heard great things about Breathless while I was there (no relation to the Godard film, for those of you interested), though I couldn't fit it into my schedule to actually see it. I imported it from yesasia or somewhere similar upon its DVD release, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. I liked the first half hour or so, but it got tiresome really fast.

My favorite recent Korean film is 2007's Secret Sunshine, which is set to get a U.S. release this year. It co-stars The Host's Song Kang-ho, and is directed by the guy who made Oasis (which I don't particularly like). Anyway, keep your eye out for it, if you haven't already seen it. It's more of a "regular" drama than a genre film like what has mostly been discussed in this thread, and it's absolutely fantastic.

The only part of Breathless that I didn't like was the very last scene. They tried too hard to get the point across. Otherwise, I think this movie makes more of impact if you've been around people like the ones seen it the movie.

Secret Sunshine didn't work for me. The ending seem to totally flub it.

blah, do I really want to replace my DVD copies? I do want the fade to white version of Lady Vengeance. If they release the movies separately, I might just pick up Lady Vengeance only.

The tin version yes. They also have a timed exclusive on the Blu-ray version in general too I believe. Other retailers will release it in June according to the link posted by the OP
