Even though we already knew this was in the works, GSC has officially declared it for a 2012 release (just in time for the RL end of the world). No information about the actual game was given, but I'm hopeful this means the MP portion will see a major revamp and be good this time. Like Crysis 2, the official sequel will be multi-platform and I have faith in GSC to not consolize the game. I fully expect the PC version to be superior in every aspect.

New Details:

- you play as Strelok
- seamless worls, some locations from previous games will return
- it’s a movie tie-in
- the movie’s budget is 3 million $
- there might be vehicles
- PS3 port is possible
- 60 people work on the game
- The game will use like 50% of the previous storylines

I didn't know about this. I'm not boner excited, but I'm happy they're making another STALKER game. I wonder if they'll be using the X-ray engine again... I wish they would drop that engine and use something else. That engine is a hog.

PC gamers will no doubt be disappointed to know the franchise is going multiplatform, and will be built on a new in-house multiplatform engine.

Stalker on consoles? Well there goes half of what made Stalker fun. No more inventory and all that extra stuff that consoles for some reason won't bother with. They think that fan base is too stupid or something?

Not enough sales maybe? Or other, like someone died/something happened and they need teh monies.

I'm excited and I can't really wait, same goes for all new games in the year of 2011.

As long as they don't bring this game out with a butt load of bugs im all in! I love thefirst game it was just spectacular now lets hope they do better.

You know, until they mentioned it I hadn't realized there are no women in STALKER. The true sequel will apparently remedy this but no mention as to whether you can play one or not. Also, they assure fans that PC is the lead platform and will not be consolized.

Never heard that one before..... :^o But I guess only time will tell.

OK, from the new details I'm extremely disappointed. This is a proper sequel, with a new engine and STILL recycles 50% of the previous storyline and god knows how many areas? I mean, I can understand that the setting is in Pripyat but there comes a point when there's too much rehashing. I find it hard to believe the few zones they keep reusing cover the entire province. And now they're cashing in on a movie deal? Lol, the only thing left is to merchandise and rename it Call of the Zone: Modern Stalkers.

Alright, I'm done. Obviously I'll still buy their shit because I know it will be good, but I can't help feeling they could do better than this.

A movie with a 3 million budget. This movie is going to be terrible for starters which means I will be watching it

Now as for the game, I am interested in it slightly. I own the first game, and while I don't mind them rehashing the same areas, why is have the game the same story? Is this Stalker 2 or Stalker 1.5? If they improve on the mechanics, I will be interested in it.

Here's the thing: you're in a good position having only played the first one because the two follow-ups reuse the same areas again, but with a few new areas in each one. I've played each game two times at least, so seeing a true sequel reuse areas AGAIN is trying my patience. Stalker 2 shouldn't be 1.5 because they've already done that twice now.

As far as the movie goes, it would be nice to see it included on the game disc. I know I won't go out of my way to see it, but am interested nonetheless.

I find it unfortunate that STALKER can get away with these things due to its dedicated fanbase, and I feel the developers know this. Why design an entirely new world and story when you can just reuse a bunch?

I'm sure the game will be great though.

Well, like I said they only have Pripyat to work with but I feel like they should be trying to branch out the setting. It's not like Fallout where you can take your game wherever you want. The zone is unique to the disaster.

I'd sacrifice continuity for freshing the place up. Same places, but somewhat different road/building layout and architecture.

STALKER is pretty devoid of interesting characters aside from The Zone itself, that's the games only really distinct character. They need to keep The Zone fresh, or else I won't have anything new to come for.

But again, to reiterate, I'm sure the game will be great so I'm not too worried. Just my own 2 unprofessional cents.

Here's what I could see them doing by reusing areas: keeping a lot of key buildings BUT changing the layout of the area. The zone is ever-changing so they should play off that and make previous areas unrecognizable. That would be satisfactory IMO.

Also, if they do add cars I wouldn't want it to be for travel. Perhaps for one-time sequences where you get to mow down mutants on the way somewhere, but I think it would lose some of its integrity as a survival horror if you could suddenly feel safe traveling.

Its all about money and nothing else.

No one truly supports the pc anymore really. To be honest if it werent for world of warcraft the pc would be in a lot worse shape than it is now.

Gamers are slowly being trained to have simpler games that dont require as much work to play because games are becoming mainstream. Before lots of people didnt play games because they were complicated and hard, but the easier games became the more widespread they became. Gaming is no longer a hobbie or a niche interest, its a industry and no industry can survive unless it makes itself availible to masses. Sadly appealing to the largest amount of people also means dumbing your products down.

It's time for the biannual update again lol. Key highlights are this is more than likely coming to 360, but not PS3 and the team is devoted to authenticity so I think we're safe from what happened to Crysis 2. Once again the engine will be in-house but we already knew that. This will probably be the last update from them until closer to release, if they do get it out next year.
