So let's try something new here. If you have a Blu-ray/DVD Slipcover for sale or trade, do as follows:

Movie Name
Username

And the same for request.

If you think of a better way to do this, make a suggestion.

Original Post for Archival purposes:
I'm looking for a good place to buy Blu-Ray slip covers. I've tried eBay but no one seems to have anything up. Specifically I'm looking for a slip cover for The Dark Knight. It seems like there would be a dedicated web site/store for this sort of thing. I would even buy the movie as long as the slip cover comes with (but maybe not for $35...no thank you Amazon Collectible)

People actually keep those? I just throw mine out, especially if the slip cover is exactly the same as the cover. I didn't realize I could trade them to people.

I keep mine but I remember the first time I got one I thought what is this crap its just another thing I have to do to watch my movie. I still kinnda hate them

I usually always keep slip covers unless they got a bunch of price tags that don't come off well on them also for the blueray cases bestbuy carrys some there just the single disk ones though

I always have considered slip covers as worthless. The environment takes a hit but if X person wants a slipcovers, then its ok? And its has to cost more to make for companies right? (might be cents, but that's millions of cents for each movie). Probably just ranting a bit. I'd give ya my Dark Knight cover, but probably won't as its not cost effective to even ship it in my mind.

Some covers were going for $10 in the blu-ray.com thread!

Anyways, thanks guys for your help.

The only one that I don't have that I really wanted was for Hot Tub Time Machine. Any CAGs have one that don't like slipcovers?

Why the hell would anyone throw the slip cover out? Might as well toss out the game/movie cases as well and keep them all in sleeves so there is less hindering you from watching/playing. lol

That doesn't make any sense. If the slip cover is the exact same thing as the front and back cover of the case, why bother with it at all? It's just a waste of cardboard and that's what 90% of the slip covers are.

It can protect the case from damage, that's the major appeal of slipcovers to me, and some movies do indeed have different slipcover art, which is worthwhile as well.

Protect the case from damage? The case is there to protect the disc and take the damage. I'm paying for the disc inside not the case that it comes in. Why not go as far as to have a slipcase for the slipcase?

Do people actually collect the slipcovers themselves, even independent of the movie? Or buy a movie just for the slipover? If so, that is one of the most obscure/niche hobbies I've encountered. Kind of like collecting wrappers, I think that's a hobby right?

I'll buy a movie if it has a slipcover but if it's for a movie that I have no interest in then I'm not too worried about it.

I do collect just the slips also but a lot of times I'll get the movie for it later because I like to wait for the price to go down and many slips only run for a limited time so if you don't get it then it's gone.

Collecting slipcovers is no different then collecting cards or comic books.

And some slips do have a rarity level to them and can fetch up to $60 depending on the slip.

If you want a case of a unique slipcover then look at The Golden Compass, not the flat one but the one that is embossed. It's probably one of the most beautiful slipcovers out there, very detailed.

Where and or how do people identify rarity of slips? Any of mine above "rare"?
Where and or how do people identify rarity of slips? Any of mine above "rare"?
I guess rarity is determined by the "marketplace" of people who are looking for slipcovers. Movies that come with slipcovers when they're first released won't have them in later batches. I assume big sellers that were mass produced will have slipcovers that are easier to come by. I know the special edition of Casino Royale had a slipcover that is apparently hard to find.

Do you also drive a hybrid, have solar panels on your house and only eat organic?

There isn't a rarity list anymore as it was causing a lot of problems within the slip community. I do know what is rare and can give you prices if you would like to know.

Also all of your slips are pretty standard and usually sell around $2-$5.

Slips like Crank, Bram Stokers Dracula, Moon are worth more.

I don't see it anymore worthless then people making Ethanol which takes corn from the supply and cost just as much to make are regular fuel.

I believe in being a good steward too the earth not forcing "green down people's throat." I recycle my soda cans and what have not but I'm not going to chain myself to a tree or get a Prius. And I understand your concern but people will still want slips.

Oh yeah I hate those eco cases too. There a waste and a joke.
Viva Elite make the ones with the cutout which are horrible. They should have taken a note from Vortex which also make eco cases but were smart about doing it. There's are slightly thinner but don't have freaking huge holes in them.

+1 to Vortex Eco Cases. -1200 to Viva Elite and their Eco Cases.

There's actually a "slip" community. Man, the things you learn on CAG. Im really curious as to what are the holy grails of slip covers- like the top 3 most desired.

haha yeah as funny as that sounds this is a pretty good size community of people that collect, trade, and sell slipcovers.

And hmm the top 3 most wanted? As stated before the rarity list has been deleted but I would have to say that the top 3 most wanted that I know people are looking for are

Kung Fu Panda (Target Exclusive)
Inglourious Basterds (Target Exclusive)
Bram Stokers Dracula

Those for the most part are what a lot of people would like to get a hold of.

Mmmm...so sexy. Black instead of red border.

Also, yeah, there is a "slip community" because slip covers are released initially and then discontinued. Driving people like me - who know these movies had slip covers originally - crazy. Its kind of a completionist thing. I dont know...

Speaking of which...I need an Inglorious Basterds slip cover. I'd pay $3 (for the red)

Also, thanks everyone for your replies. Should we turn this into a Buy/Trade Slipcovers thread, or just leave it?

Very nice, I see someone else keeps the stickers on also.

Interesting. I too had no idea that people collected. I've always just thrown these away because I don't like the extra bulk and I never considered them to be part of the movie or worth anything. I'll have to start keeping these for trading purposes. Now I don't feel so weird for hunting down case inserts for games.

I hate stickers on slipcovers! The slipcover is meant to be experienced in it's fell intended glory - not to be covered in Gamestop-like stickers. For what its worth, Best Buy stickers seem to be the biggest pain in the ass to remove as they often stick really good and will fall apart when being removed. They'll also often take off some of the slipcover with them especially if it's a metallic type slip. Target actually seems to be the best in not putting price stickers on slipcovers. I can really appreciate that :)
I know the special edition of Casino Royale had a slipcover that is apparently hard to find.
Hmmm, I still have that sealed.

It's pretty hard to find but not impossible. Other rare covers are the Comic Con Harold and Kumar slipcover and Dream Girls Academy Award edition.

I am a nut about completeness, but I'm even more a nut about uniformity. And having some of my Blus with slips and some not wasn't working for my nuttiness. So I remove them now (yes, that Green Hulk case bothers me too). Anyway, I have a lot of these mentioned (Dark Knight, Basterds, Hot Tub, District 9). Just pony up for the shipping and handling and they're yours. I've actually been wondering what the hell to do with them...

My Man with the Golden Gun Blu looks odd next to all the other older Bond movies since it's the only one without a slipcover. I also don't have the Casino Royale one. I don't think Quantum of Solace came with one, but I'm waiting for that alleged Definitive Edition that doesn't seem to ever be coming out.

There's a regional chain in my area where the price tags are the security tags, so once they're on the slipcover, they ain't coming off without damaging them. Of course, I don't buy movies from them anyway.

I like slipcovers, too. But I had no idea there was a community of them that only collected the slips. I prefer getting slips with my movies, but I'm shocked that people collect only the covers.

This will help with all your sticker removal issues bud.

If you do end up getting it here's the best way to apply it because I know someone is going to have questions about it.
Use a Q-tip to apply the Goo Gone wait for about a minute or so and then slowly remove the sticker. If the sticker does not come off then apply some more Goo Gone and repeat. Some stickers that have been on for long time will require more then one application. Just be careful how much you use and just don't soak the slip in it and you should be good.

Also FYI there are certain slips this will ruin if you use it. Any slip that has a felt like texture to it the Goo Gone will remove the felt and you will have a flat spot.

If you don't have Goo Gone. Rubbing Alcohol and Resnol Lighter fluid can also be used. I have not tired the latter two but heard they work. Some people have said they use a blow dryer and or steam to remove stickers but I think that those are a bad idea. I have seen many slips ruined by people using those methods.

WM and BB are notorious for having some of the worst stickers to remove. The Yellow BB ones can be a pain and same for the WM white ones. It just all depends on which ones they decided to use that day. Some are come off easy some not so easy.

haha I get that a lot but it's a fun hobby. No different then collecting other paper things. :)

So has this become a buy/trade/sell thread now?

If so then cool. It should get a sub forum and then they can merge my Request page with it.;)

And to all those wondering here's a list of all the slips that are available.

http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...pcover-master-list-not-discussion-thread.html

The OP keeps it pretty update to (sharpy, awesome guy) when he get's a chance. I have a list on my site as well and I know a few other guys that run lists. We all try and help each other out on maintaining the accuracy of the list.

My only question is how some people get their covers. I was browsing forums and saw a daily find thread. Are you guys just stealing the covers or buying them? That confused me.

As for my feelings on it. I really only care about it for my Disney blu collection. Other than that, I really don't care.

Yeah, that doesn't make it any less weird. Ha ha. But hey, more power to you. If it makes you happy and doesn't cause harm to anyone, you guys have my support. Besides, I've been known to have plenty of my own strange collections; I used to collect business cards...I'm not even sure why...it was just something to do, I guess.
