I posed this question in the most overrated games thread, but I think it could be a good discussion in and of itself.

The question is this: What game(s), good or bad, completely lived up (or down as the case may be) to their hype / previews / reviews.

As previously stated, my first vote foes to Mercenaries. I blew stuff up. I blew the living crap out of it.
Resident Evil 4
I've not played, but every review I've heard has lauded this game like it's the second coming of Christ. Is it really that good? Does it appeal to those of us that have never played an RE before?

If so, I'll have to move up "ye olde liste of games to buye soone."

Morrowind, even though I would have given it more if possible. Will there ever be a better game? Hopefully Oblivion.

Legends of Wrestling, this series is terrible, and just about every review I've ever seen, (even from old school marks) say this game is crap. Obi Wan even owns this game, and that game was just a lengthy poster.

I also think FF X-2 lived up to its marketing. The battles were fun. All the reviews I read said it was light on good story, and it was a good (if ill-named) return of the job system. Thoroughly enjoyable battle system, which is all I was looking for.

If everyone knew about Morrowind, who would bake the bread, or direct the traffic, or repair the shoes? We would become a race of mod-making, scamp-slaying, vampire-turning-into-if-we-get-attacked-by-them-and-then-sleep-for-three-days, Elder's Scrolls addicts! Society as we know it would crumble!

...Actually more mods doesn't sound like a bad idea...
As far as newer games go, Lumines and God of War.
Nah, I'd disagree. God of War isn't just one of the highest reviewed games of all time, its a damn masterpiece...

Haha, there's probably going to be quite a bit of overlap in the games listed in the "Most Overrated" list. Anyway, I have to go with Katamari Damacy or Gitaroo Man.

Ty the Tasmaina Tiger 2: Bush Rescue. This game was touted as a solid but flawed platformer, and that's what it was. It had a great atmosphere, decent graphics, and entertaining gameplay. Can't beat that for $20.....unless it's $5, but you get the point.

mario 64: prior to the 64's release it was heralded as the next step in gaming (which it was), the reason to own a 64 (which it was for half a year); ridiculously high expectations were met and praise, both before and after, well earned
Halo 2.
Although I'm a staunch Halo fan, H2 didn't live up to my hype, or the reviews. I mean, I thought there would be a ton of small, clever intricacies, such as bolts on weapons moving, destructible evironments, and such. ANyway, enough nitpicking, but I think the 9.6 that OXM gave it was too high. ( OXM is my primary source for reviews. )

My pick for most proficiently rated game is Predator: Concrete jungle. It was a 6 at best. They ruined an un-ruinable character.

I have to agree with jclast, my vote goes to Mercenaries.

Resident Evil 4 is an amazing game. The Graphics, The AI, the boss fights and most imporantly the GamePlay. I've beaten RE4 at least 6 times, and i've yet to get tired of it. Any gamer will enjoy this game and if they don't, they have a serious large stick up there ass. One con the game has against it, has to be the weak story it felt more like a pre-quel and left a lot of un-answered questions but luckly story isn't the only element that makes a game great.

Halo. It was a competant FPS in the way that a lot of FPS are competant. It had pretty balanced weapons and mostly poor level design. Got real boring real fast. I couldn't figure why people made such a big deal out of it.

I have agree with you there. A friend of mine let me borrow it, and it was a great time until I had to play as Ashley. Playing as Ashley is like having the dry heaves, hiccups, and diarhhea all at once. :applause: After that, and previous to that, this game is amazing.
Final Fantasy III (6)
I agree. That and 7 were honestly rated. That and Turok Evolution. GODDAMN did that game suck.
