The second link gives some really interesting background information on the game.

If you read all the threads (linked with in the links above) and all the messages it is very interesting read. Don't be lazy and skim it. Read it. It is very good. I remember back in the day I almost got mom to get me a Neo Geo System. Thanks God! She did not. Mom Knows Best.

If this has already been posted, sorry. I must have been too busy in another thread :)

Enjoy!
Chris

OMFG! I SAW THAT A PAWN SHOP FOR 10$ but DECIDED TO GET TOMB RAIDER 3!!

Nah just playin.

Hopefully when I grow up I will become a Neo*Geo AES Collector...

I regret not begging my dad not to buy one and some cheaper games for it back in the days it came out for $1000. But I know it woulda been broken anyway.
I threw that game out last week!!!
You might as well just commit Seppuku now.

If you read the background information about it in the second link the guys talk about possible fakes.

like the guy who posted it said the only way I would ever buy anything for that much is if Shawn verified it. There is no other way I would spend that much dough on a possible fake

and in reference to what b3b0p is talking of, they take old MVS carts that are not rare and take a sac. Cart to stick their MVS game in. AES games are usually much more expensive and rare due to somewhat limited production runs (check out the first metal slug and see the difference in price between an MVS Metal Slug and an AES one, its about 900 bucks)

unreal, i didnt know there were video games worth that much. i came into this thread thinking something along the lines of chrono trigger or suikoden II.

the only other one that comes close is the 1990 Nintendo gold cart

I have the japanese version of that game. It is a good game, but not $12k good. But then again, Neo Geo collectors are irrational (and rich) people.

not to put down this place (because I think it is great) but isn't the amount of personality put out by posters on the Neo boards just amazing. Sometimes I just browse their forums for fun

I seriously doubt that :)

I know your just kidding, but if you read through it it has been confirmed that there are so far a total of 5 of these to exist. It is even mentioned where the game was purchased from (what store and where).

Also, another very interesting topic they bring up is what would you do if you saw guy selling this at flea market with no clue of its value?

One guys response was Urinate on the spot. LOL!

Another thing brought up was that there has to be more then 5 copies out there. Like maybe someone has a stock pile? If they did how often would you release an item like this? Once a year? Every other year? Never?

Wow. 10,000 bucks. That's a used car.
hell thats a new car
well, maybe, if you're looking to get a hyundai accent.

 Damn. That pretty much sums it up.

My entire game collection (330 plus games) is (approxiamately) only $7,600. I know some say IGN isn't accurate but it's close enough.

There are actually about 50 copies out there b3b0p. Only 5 have actually been verified as actual, authentic AES carts. People can take a MVS cart (that go into the actual aracde machine) and mod it into an AES cart. That's why it had to be verified.

i came into this thread thinking something along the lines of chrono trigger or suikoden II.

Both of those are hardly rare, just highly sought after. Suikoden II is the harder to come by of the two, but neither are especially hard to find. You can go to E-bay any time and find a copy.

Thanks for the info! I don't know very much about Neo Geo. Almost bought an working Neo Geo MVS arcade once and was very close to getting a Neo Geo Gold System about 10 years back, but then when my mom saw the prices of the games. She about fainted (I was I think about 13 or so).

I was just relaying what was said in the links. I found this whole thing very interesting. It is not often you have someone actually analyze and confirm a silly game for authenticity reasons and one that sells for $12, 000. I believe the guy sold if for closer to $12, 000 to cover some of the fees associated with the sale. The auction was only ended early after someone came forward and agreed to purchase it (the high bidder obviously).

I know for sure there is no way I could spend that much on a game. I would drop $200 on my favorite game of all time, but only if it is 100% complete and minty fresh like. That is my limit.

that is FAR too much for a game. How could you possible enjoy it if you paid that much for it? I would be way too worried about messing up the box each time I put the cart back in it etc. I have an AES system, but hot dam, I couldnt care less about this one!

The person that list it might have another account, or have a friend that has an account, and is bidding on his own item. Their's only one bid. I seriously doubt any SANE person will pay $10,000. It's a gag or something.

Umm, no this is legit. Neo Geo collectors are pretty wealthy. Let me restate that, to be a Neo Geo Collector you must be pretty wealthy and have plenty of disposable income. There is no way I could live without owning Metal Slug series if I had a Neo Geo System. Metal Slug (the first one) is estimated at about $1000 for the game according to the Neo Geo Price List (see 2nd link in original post). Oh, and pretty sure the winner payed more then $10,000 for this. If you read the threads in second link it gives more details.

Thats the thing with collecting. If you have the one that people need or don't have they will pay stupid prices to get it! There are plenty stupid people out in the world with a lot of money! I say more power to the seller! Who would pay that much for a videogame? Come on. Even 200 for a game! I don't think anygame iw worth that. I don't care if the videogame grew arms unzipped your pants and game you a good old fashion BJ everythime you played it! It still isn't worth thats price....Well maybe 200. :) I don't see that game having arms and a mouth so I think I'll pass.

I have it and will trade it for a copy of Superman 64

You know, I'm almost willing to bet that the guy selling that game found it at a flea market for 10 bucks

I know Neo Geo games are worth alot, but I could buy several actual ARCADE machine for $10,000. I still don't belive it's legit, it doesn't seem right.

if you got it...uh flaunt it. definitely makes me buying panzer dragoon saga for 130(this was before the game started to sell regularly at 200) look like buying a pack of gum.

still if they have the money who's to say they're stupid...if you want something that badly and have the cash more power to you.

About the person who suggested it was a fake. I highly doubt it that because on the info it says, "Will house buyer for 1-2 days." What dumbass would stay at the seller's house without checking the authenticity, especially before handing over the cash (well, probably check).

Looking at the game ratings. It only got like 7's and 8's out of 10.

I guess it was a decent fighter and a way overhyped price.

If the person that has been the exclusive distributor of Neo Geo games in America for almost 5 years says its legit thats all I need

It's called rarity.

This is cool, and is quite interesting to me. I didn't read too deep into the linked threads so can someone who knows please enlighten me....

What company manufactured this game? How did it come to be that there were only 5 AES copies that are verified. Wouldn't the company that manufactured them know how many AES carts they produced? Why would something be made in such low production?

omfg, my cousin has that game on his og jap neo geo system! im gona con him out of it.... let me know for anyoffers..
this is no joke, i have it!

$10,000 ebay auction does not a rare game make.

Hell I could put VooDoo Vince up for $1,000,000 starting price and have my g bid on it does that mean it's rare?

a lot of people have it. Its the European version thats rare.

and saying a game is not rare when it sells for 10K is stupid. We are talking about something that has less than 5 confirmed copies as opposed to something that you can buy at any game shop.

If someone actually did have it and they had a pea or even a raisin for a brain they would be smart enough to not come forward acknowledging they own this or own a stockpile of this game. If 2 of these games popped up on the open market within a matter of weeks or even months of each other suddenly the value of this game drops about as fast as rabbits produce offspring (Read: Like lightning!). Especially if it came from somone who had not had their copy verified as a legit AES cart, because then you see there would be 6 confirmed copies going around. Which would spark alot of questions as to why it took so freakin long (Earth to Dumb ass! Come in!) for someone to come forward with it? Or maybe there really is a stock pile somewhere?

Me, I think someone, somewhere has stock pile. There is no way a game gets 5 bleepin copies made on the assembly belt and just haulted all of sudden. Unless these babies were made by hand? Kind of like my mom's 1993 Escort LE. Yeah right :)

Chris
aw man, my cuz has the jap version
you may wanna check anyway. I just think its the European release, but all the AES carts may command something

I guess it might be just me but I dont think I could ever pay that much for a game, unless I was some sort of Richie Rich type person. I could contemplate buying a Zelda that was an amazing game and only a few copies in existence. And Miyamoto has to deliver personally and then I might consider buying it

I agree. And I've spent $80 on a disk only Suikoden 2 and people give me crap about that.
