Because the old topic had gotten so long, congested and out of date... and to start over with full support for ALL countries, CheapyD has given me explicit permission to start this new topic

Downloading content from foreign regions has resulted in console bannings!

  • This topic is to index and discuss free content for Xbox Live from around the world.
  • Discussion of how one might go about circumventing any restraints in place to get content from a country other than their own... is currently against the rules!
  • Stay on topic.
  • No trolling or arguing. (And don't feed the trolls.)
  • And of course, follow any site rules.

What That Means: (For those that need it spelled out.)

You MAY discuss:

Additions, updates, clarifications and corrections of free content available for Xbox Live or from the Xbox Live Marketplace.  I'll do my best to keep this Original Post or OP as up to date as i can.  Whenever possible, please post any of the relevant info you can.  This includes:

  • The content name.
  • The content type. (Game, DLC, Avatar item, etc.)
  • The country it is available from. (Content from ANY country is allowed so long as you follow the rules.)
  • A link to it in the Xbox Marketplace. (Or other link if applicable.)
  • The start and end dates if possible. (If applicable.)
  • If it's an Avatar item, try and post a picture. Especially from the Xbox Marketplace if possible.
You MAY NOT discuss:

How to cheat the system to get content outside of your own country.  This includes:

  • Discussion of having multiple accounts from different countries.
  • Illegitimate account migrations.
  • VPNs or Proxys.
  • Etc, etc, etc. It's not that complicated!
Please stay on topic.  Some discussion is fine but if conversations veer too far off topic, they're likely to get deleted.  If you like someone's contribution to the topic, instead of replying with a "Thank you", please just use the "Like This" button.

Important Notes:

All individual countries that are listed are included primarily just to highlight content exclusive to those countries or content exclusive to just a few countries.  All content that is "generally" more universal around the world is listed under "Worldwide". (HOWEVER, most of the content from the old topic has been placed under "Worldwide" for now unless it was clear that items were only for particular a country.  So unfortunately, the "Worldwide" section is a bit of a "To be sorted" category for now, until the proper country placement can be determined.)

Re-organizing and creating this new topic took an insane amount of work.  I certainly got in over my head but i really wanted it to be a complete comprehensive source of not just listings but also any related info i could squeeze in.  I think it has turned out well and i hope it will better serve our international membership.  Hopefully i'll be able to regularly keep it more up to date until it might become a wiki again.  I hope you find it helpful and useful.

Listings Key:

  • Date Format: MM/DD/YYYY (US Layout)
  • Crossed Out Title* - Previously FREE but now Delisted.
  • Crossed Out Title** - Previously FREE but still available for purchase.
  • "Game Hub" - A "Game Hub" is simply a base app or menu type app that is the gateway for accessing other games (generally premium paid) that must generally be manually added individually.
  • "Freemium Game" - A "Freemium Game" is a game that you may play for FREE.  An you can likely even fully complete for FREE.  However, there are varying degrees of obstacles and difficulties (in some cases, major difficulties) that would be made much easier by purchasing premium paid extras.  Such as weapons, upgrades, bonus items, etc.
  • "Alternate Achievements" - A game that is technically the same game as its standard version counterpart and has the exact same achievements... But its achievement are actually tracked separately (from its standard version counterpart) on Xbox Live.  So you could actually get credit for all of the achievements an additional time if you play both versions. (For example: "Batman: Arkham Asylum" and "Batman: AA GOTY".
  • "Reverse Compatibility Update" - Allows Game Add-ons from a previous version of a Game to work in the newer Game.
  • "Premium Add-on Compatibility Update" - Allows you to play with those who have bought Premium versions of these Add-ons.
URL Key:

  • Xbox Redeem Code - Redeem Xbox codes here.
  • Xbox Download History - You may re-downloaded most of your previous purchases (FREE or otherwise) from here.
  • xbox.com/xx-XX/ - This xx-XX/ segment of the URL determines what country's Marketplace you're looking at.  Removing this altogether should take you to your default country.  See each country below for each country's xx-XX/ URL segment. (For example, the United States is en-US/.)
  • ?DownloadType=Game#LiveZone - Add this to the end of an Xbox Marketplace URL to see ONLY "Games" for any particular title. No DLC, videos, etc will be shown.  Remove it to see all content for a title.
  • ?nosplash=1 - Add this to the end of an Xbox Marketplace URL to bypass the Splash Page.  Remove it to see the splash page.  Only some games have a Splash Page.  For example, Halo 4 with its splash page vs. Halo 4 without its splash page.
  • ?nosplash=1&DownloadType=Game#LiveZone - Combines the results of the above two URL segments. Although, it's redundant since either URL segment on it's own should remove a splash screen.

Factoids:

  • This is the largest and most up-to-date compilation of past and present FREE items for Xbox Live.
  • The last version of this topic (here) was the highest rated thread in the forums as of 11/21/2009.
  • Major differences between this new topic and the last version:
    All countries are now included whereas the other topic focused on the US and a fair degree of the UK. (Most other countries got only occasional attention.)

The Verizon ad now has a Droid Razr avatar phone available. You have to do a quiz before it is available but then you get to choose one of three colors.

how to get all three colors. For those interested

After you get one on your main profile, log off, go to the dashboard(to be safe) and log in another us profile(it only takes a few minutes to set up a new account on hotmail and then xbl). Find the ad and do the quiz agai (answers don't matter. Go back to the store and pick a different color and download it. after the download, use a second controller to log back into your main profile. log off your fake/secondary profile. then with your main profile select the prop and download it. Do not log into your main profile before selecting a new color with your secondary/fake profile. Thats why you are getting booted to the dashboard. Also, you can delete the extra profile when you are done.

Make sure download to your secondary before switching over. And to be on the safe side, I logged my main profile off and searched for the ad with my secondaries to avoid the booting issue. And keep track of which colors you choosen. Good luck.

There's a new advert out for Target (christmas themed). Go right when you find it and you get a free Target Bullseye (logo) avatar prop. There's also a free gamer pic and theme.

EDIT: I found it in apps (and later in music). It's just a standard picture (no animation) but it's hard to miss with the big Target logo. Good in the US so far.

EDIT #2: The prop is actually the Target Dog with an animation involving a bone. Better than quite a few of the others, imo.

EDIT #3: Okay, WTF. It removed my I (porkchop) minecraft shirt. I went in to add it back and all my avatar award stuff is gone. I removed the prop and no luck. So I guess equip it at your own risk.

EDIT #4: Resetting the console fixed the issue. I should note there's a possibility it wasn't the Target dog that was the culprit, as I removed passwords my red ringed XBoxes earlier. Sort of doubt that would effect props, but just leaving the previous edit around in case it was the prop.

I think the only thing that makes them premium is whether or not they have custom scenery when you go into your friends bar (like Warthogs on Halo, Cornfields on Left 4 Dead, etc.)

So while it makes sense premiums would be bigger due to those extra images, it's not really a rule as the wallpapers themselves can fluxuate in size enough and get larger. I have a premium theme or two that's measured in KBs still (Borderlands OXM, I think).

If you have Battlefield 3, you can get a free Aftermath theme if you go into the in-game store (under Options) and scroll down to the "Theme" section. It's right under the Paris theme, and is 0msp.

I'm not sure if it's Premium Members only since it was in the Premium Bonus Content Drop, but it's not located in the Premium section of the store. At least it's still free, though.

As a "regular" player the theme is listed at 240 msp unfortunately.

There's an ad for Chase Liquid on the US dashboard and it has some simple mini-game. The game has your avatar going down a waterslide. You need to dodge different obstacles. There's also a free standard theme if you sign-up for more info on Chase Liquid. Why anyone would want a Chase Liquid theme is beyond me. I think more companies should start giving away free avatar items instead of these advertisement standard themes that no one really wants.

The theme is in the marketplace too so you don't even need the ad to get it.

Thank you. Playing catch up will be the hardest part since so many items were never updated to the master list of the old topic. Once it is up to date it shouldn't be so hard as long as i stay on top of it.

Thank you for the list! I will go over it and make sure everything that isn't already added makes it onto the master list.

You might want to go in there and clean up your code, though. A lot of the spoiler tags and such are screwy which makes it a bit hard to navigate.

At first I was incredibly pissed, because of the good amount of work I added to the original OP (thought it was completely trashed and stuff was missing), but after seeing how you are going about everything, I must say, fantastic job!!  Its quite a large undertaking, but it really needed to be done.

Also, I'm not sure the post limit for CAG 2.0, but you might want to move all non-worldwide/usa stuff to an overflow post.  Back when I added a whole bunch to the old OP, I hit the limit and that's why a lot of the old defunct themes had to have their links removed (links are the killer to post limits).  Even if the limit is far greater, it would be helpful for future proofing things...although depending on how wikis implemented, it might not be helpful for the sake of being kept up to date...

It's like that because I keep getting an error message saying cannot use that image extension here therefore I had to swap out the images with their respective url which is why it looks messy

I realize that many people are only interested in only what is currently free. That makes perfect sense. However, many others are also interested in an archival record. Obviously i am one of them or i wouldn't have gone to so much work. And since both can live together in one list harmoniously, why not?

It was free for Indian accounts. And Lara Croft Guardian of Light was free for Silver accounts a few months ago for a short period of time. One of those Deal of the Week pricing typos. I'm pretty sure it was the week after Chinese Assassin's Creed.

To appease both parties, it would probably best to separate the what's currently free from the archive itself. Only when the content that is free is over can it then be moved to the archive, but I highly recommend adding all currently free contents as the first thing people see in this thread and everything else in an archive format hidden with a SPOILER button

Monster Hunter Frontier is free for JP accounts btw.

You need to get the demo, then it gives u 2 codes: 1 for the full game and another for 48-hour gold trial! :)

I can see where you're coming from. But that would take TONS more work to maintain. And it's not like clicking the spoiler tag a few times takes more than a one or two seconds. I already address this in my OP. I have a whole paragraph on it.

Under Free DLC, listed for Rock Band 3 is "Johnny Cash 9 song pack"

That's not right, the Johnny Cash pack is 8 songs, the free pack is the Free Pack 01 or something like that, it was the songs that were from 2 and re-released for 3 for free.

But Johnny Cash 01 isn't free they just released at the same time

I'll add a video category. There wasn't actually a video category in the last thread's OP but people often reported videos in the topic. I might as well add a category for it.
