Hello travelers! The dream finally becomes a reality, as PlayStation, Gearbox Software and 2K announces today at Gamescom that the addictive first person shooter-looter mayhem of Borderlands 2 will be coming to PS Vita.

I watched as Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, stood on stage at the Rezzed show in the UK a year ago and told fans that, with PlayStation’s support, he’d love to see Borderlands 2 on PS Vita. For the last year, Gearbox Software, 2K, and PlayStation have been inundated with emails, tweets, forum posts and more from passionate gamers across the world pleading for a PS Vita version of Borderlands 2. You spoke, we listened, and with the wonderful collaboration between 2K, PlayStation and the team at Iron Galaxy Studios – makers of indie fighting game Divekick – we can finally make Borderlands 2 on PS Vita a reality!

For those of you new to the critically acclaimed shooting-and-looting mayhem of Borderlands 2, which won more than 55 editorial awards in 2012, you’ll be picking from four uniquely-skilled Vault Hunters – Axton the Commando, Maya the Siren, Salvador the Gunzerker and Zer0 the Assassin – and then gunzerking your way through the world of Pandora in an attempt to defeat the corrupt Hyperion Corporation, led by the notorious Handsome Jack. Throughout these adventures, you will encounter a variety of distinctive, colorful characters including the explosive Tiny Tina, the (ex-)wife-of-many Mad Moxxi, and the friendly and energetic robotic companion CL4P-TP – you can call him Claptrap for short. That’s what his friends call him – or would, if he had any friends in the first place.

PS Vita gives Borderlands 2 fans the ability to play the game anywhere they want, complete with of all the unique benefits of the Vita system, and will truly bring the four-player cooperative experience to the palms of your hands. A new era of portable shoot-and-loot awaits! On behalf of Gearbox, 2K, and Sony, we want to thank the passionate fans for helping make Borderlands 2 on the PS Vita a reality, and we look forward to looting bazillions of guns with you guys on the go.

Borderlands 2 will be shipping on PS Vita in 2014 and will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Stay tuned for more information.

Here's a post on the PS Blog with some more info.

The game is being made with the help of the developers from Divekick, Iron Galaxy, and Sony will be publishing the game themselves.

It's also been confirmed that there will indeed be four person co-op, but that's about it.

Oh and it's not coming out until 2014.

Exactly what vita needs some more star power titles. If it`s the GOTY edition when the console version drops they gotta pure winner. Only things missing are bundles w/8 gb mem card & PS+.

If they could score a GTA also that would sell 5 million.

It would be nice to be able to play Borderlands 2 on my PS3 and then transfer my progress to the Vita version.  Play on the go and then when I get home transfer back to the PS3 version.

I would want it as an BL 2 spin-off rather than a port. Because its impossible to shrink the console GoTY version to fit in Vita. Take NFS MW for example, less density, details, contents. What is the max size for a Vita game? 4GB?

The PS3 version is 5.3GB, and the resolution is 1280x720p, while the PS Vita supports 960x544. While that isn't a huge difference, I can easily see them fitting this under the 4GB cap. There may be a bit less detail and a few less objects on-screen, but on the 5" screen of the Vita, we probably won't notice.

It will be interesting to see what they do to trim the file size. I'm sure there will be a fair amount of heavy compression.

NFS MW was around 4GB on PS3 and look how its on Vita, so I still doubting. Btw KZ mercenary is the biggest game to date, roughly 3.5GB w day1 patch makes it 4.5GB, if downloaded on card.

I'd like to buy this when it comes out. I'm hopefully it's the GOTY version. If not, I'd wait for a sub $10 as you can probably get the GOTY console versions for roughly

A BL 2 spin off would be great. Everyone has finished BL2, so it's a hard sell for someone to re-buy BL2 just to play it on Vita.

If the saves were cross-compatible and you didn't have to re-buy the DLC, I'd probably bite on a portable BL2.

I think I'll wait for the price drop, though. I just have no confidence that it would try to charge twice for DLC.

Pretty sweet. I don't know if I'd play through it again after God knows how many hours on 360 (and I still haven't checked out Krieg!), but this is definitely a nice get for the Vita.

yeah, I hope it's the goty edition too. I have this on the pc but waiting for the vita version to play it with friends.

I played the hell out of it and the DLC on 360, so I'm not interested in revisiting it.

It's a great game though, so hopefully the port turns out well.

Played alright at GDC. I asked if it was native res and was told it was. Their goal is to get it at 30 FPS, the build was set at the beginning of the game, so no concrete way to see it put through its paces. I haven't gotten too far in the PS3 version, so I may end up continuing (cross save) on Vita if I find it on sale.

Here's hoping it makes a case for technically complex "main line" games on Vita and gets some (positive) attention. I get the sense other developers are viewing it as a test to see if Vita is really worth going into.

I'm contemplating getting the new Vita bundle. I traded my old Vita in, but am still really tempted by this. I just don't know though, I guess it'll depend on how the final version of the game is if I get the bundle/Vita again.

I would wait for reviews first.

More so just wanting the Vita back/the newer model Vita. I would like to have the Borderlands game also good or bad so it just made it seem like a sweeter deal.

I doubt it. The problem is that the user base is just small on Vita due to poor sales. And if stuff like Uncharted, Killzone etc. didn't move consoles I don't see a port of game most interested people have played to death moving a huge number of consoles.

I think the game will do well just because many Vita owners are starved for something other than indies and niche Japanese games to play, and diehard BL fans will like having it portable. But I don't think it will lead to any revival in AAA games on the Vita. The userbase is just too small for developers to justify making big budget games. It's a great place for mid-tier and indie games though as those sell well and don't have to sell millions of copies to make big margins.

Actually development cost for handheld is much lesser than for home console. Just take it from JP sales 50k-100k copies sold and the sequel isn't out of question. One think I would love to see that one day Vita can support 2 accounts on one console.

Of course. But an AAA Vita games still costs a lot more to develop than a mid tier or indie Vita game.

We're not hearing about sequels to Uncharted or Killzone on Vita as they can make a profit from whatever they sell.

Midtier and indie games can sell 50-100k and turn a profit and that's why we see so many of those titles. The Vita market is niche and particularly interested in niche titles so that stuff sells well on Vita. Probably better there than on 3DS or consoles where there is a lot more competition with many more games coming out.

Wish they would hurry up and announce other Vita stuff coming out soon. I don't want to wait until E3 to try and get a Borderlands 2 bundle, but at the same time I don't want to buy a Vita if that's all I'm going to be getting this year. Most things that are cross buy I'll play on PS4 and I would like to try remote play on the new 2000. I didn't really enjoy it on most games on the 1000 model.

I gave in and preordered one of these bundles. I bought FF X/X2 HD when it was on sale at gamestop in anticipation...

I wish I knew how big the BL2 game download was going to be, that 8GB memory card isn't bad but if it's like Killzone and is 4gb itself then that's gonna pretty much fill the card without any of the other Plus games I have I could download.

I looked at the display box at a GameStop yesterday. I didn't realize that it would be a download (though that shouldn't have been a surprise). What really surprised me is that it's not the entire GOTY contents. Specifically, it's missing the Hammerlock and Tiny Tina expansions.

I've already played them, but I was looking forward to having everything on the go. I'll probably still get it. I hope they offer the rest as dlc and discounted compared to the home dlc.

That sucks, this was one I was considering getting on physical format..like you said though, not too surprising if one thinks about the logistics.

Wait, so this is download only (albeit with a download code in a box at retail I'm assuming?)  Damn it, I really want to support the Vita but $40 for a game that's been as cheap as free on PS+ and it isn't even a physical release is asking a bit much for me personally.  Guess I'll be waiting for a price drop now...

You looked at the box for the Vita/Borderlands bundle, or the Borderlands 2 Vita game alone? Didn't think the standalone game was just a download code (though due to the size of the game, it wouldn't be that surprising).

Dang. I didn't even notice that there was 2 DLC packs missing because I kept seeing 6 DLC so I assumed it was the 2 characters and the 4 from the season pass. I still plan on getting it, because I was going to get the new Vita anyway for the improved back touch pad since I want to play my PS4 on it but that kind of sucks for Borderlands if they don't release these packs or at least make it cross buy with the PS3 version since I already have the season pass for there.

My bad for not clarifying. I was looking at the system bundle box. Standalone game is a regular card as far as I know.

Then it isn't a problem. I expected the Vita bundle to have it as a download, but the retail release should be a physical game card (with extra space required on your memory card for the add-ons). No big deal.

Do you know what you almost did?!?

Just kidding, anyway the more I thought about it the more I was starting to think that was the case. It only makes sense that the system version will be a download because they have less time to make those and get them out than they do a card.

That's not a problem at all, actually. I mean, 2 player co-op is just as fun, and I would rather that experience be solid, than to have them put in 4p CO and have it be shit.

Truth be told, my Vita has essentially turned into my "Remote Play" handheld. I don't see myself buying many PS Vita games for it, sadly. Not when most/all PS4 games will work via remote play. I was sitting in bed, trying out the Child of Light demo earlier this week. Pretty neat being able to do that. Unfortunately the game was a little *light* on story...

I guess if you have never played BL2 the 2 player would be ok, but 4 player coop is what makes that game really. To me anyways.

Was prolly never going to get it on the vita (already have for both 360 and ps3 thanks to plus) but would have been nice to have the complete experience on the handheld version.

Reading more and more about the limitations of the game when it comes to the console i've decided not to buy it new, let them drop it 10 bucks like they did FF X/X2. People desperately want PS3 Games to be ported over and whatnot and its happening, but the vast majority of games on the vita will stay indie and a lot of Original Xbox/PS2 recreations. Like Cel Damage is one of so many that are coming, and strangers wrath came to vita very quickly for that same reason, they translate better.

Bought the bundle. I am currently downloading/installing the game. I can already tell I'm going to need a bigger memory card. It comes with the 8GB. So far it looks like the game and add-ons is about 4-5GB. Unfortunately I am not able to download much more aside from that I have Spelunky and a few more smaller indie games. I am wanting to get the 64GB card just nervous about importing it.

Don't be nervous about importing. I got one from Nippon yasan and it was a simple easy process. Definitely worth the money for the space.

it's 50/50, I feel like there might be a price drop at/after e3 and I don't want to import it. If they don't price drop after e3 or announce one or say when we will see them in the US I'll probably go ahead and import one.
