i am debating whether i should purchase xbox live, even though i don't game much online. should i?
There's always 2 months for $2 on dash do that. You usually get 3 free months with each console if you make a new account on the xbox do that too

As gunnm said you can watch for one of those free/$1/$2 spots on the dashboard, or if you look around online you can find links for those offers even if they aren't on your dashboard.
Just saw this, yeah you need to, you can get a prepaid card to use for stuff like this if you want.

Yeah, you need otherwise a card or your paypal account tied to your live account in order to get those deals, but if you don't want those on there you can remove them right after you do it.
Make an account on the xbox and get a free month instantly no CC needed unless they took that out.
