Need you advice, PS3 or PS4?

CAGiversary!
Hey fellow Cags, I already have an xbone, & just got a ps vita with psn+ over the holidays. I use to have a ps3 & sold it, xbox guy. But after joining psn+ & seeing the free library. I'm kinda missing my ps3. What do you guys think? Should I buy one. Or just save up for the ps4. I already have a next gen, and from what I've seen I can pretty much play them on my xbone. Do you think it's too late for a ps3? I'm looking at the "last of us bundle, bf edition with batman too" I'm on the fence. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks guys

Considering the lack of BC in PS4 (and Xbox One) and the huge library of quality games, I can't imagine buying another ever being a bad decision.

I will say this, if you get another PS3, also buy a Dualshock 4. It's a sheer joy to hold, let alone play a game with and has worked very, very well on every PS3 title I've tried, thus far.

PS3 is your smart bet right now. It's cheaper and there are hundreds of games already out on it + free PS+ games. If you're looking to save up for a PS4, by the time you have those spare $400, there should hopefully be more games out and the system itself should be easier to find

I used to be an Xbox 360 fan until after 4 replacements from Microsoft for RROD, I decided to abandon ship.  I really liked the stability of Xbox live for multiplayer but I didn't like the fact I really didnt' get anything else - unlike on PS3 where you not only get free multiplayer but also free (rental) games when you have PS Plus.  So I ended up getting a PS3 and I've played a bunch of the exclusives...uncharted, infamous, killzone, but I really like that I have a ton of games after 2 years for free from the PS Plus network that I've enjoyed.

Just look at the January list of games coming for PS3...Bioshock Infinity and Devil May Cry (remake) are great titles.  I played through both on PC but getting them free is just awesome.

Basically if you own a Sony console, you can actually not spend a dime on additional games if you don't want when you have PS Plus.  I mean PS4 had 2 free games at launch plus their MMO stuff...Warframe and DC Universe all for free.  Those kept me busy for a while.

You should actually check out  your local craigslist.  I scored my PS3 that way and got pretty much everything for $150...that was 2 controllers, the charger deck, PS move, camera, 3 games, 320 GB model (slim) and a bunch of games pre-installed....so there are great deals on craigslist.  Just gotta search and make sure you test everything out if you decide to buy.  I wouldn't even bother looking at a brand new system.  Used is just fine.

I went and borrowed a PS3 from my uncle last month to play all the PS3 titles I missed out on (been an xbox only gamer this whole gen) and seeing as I am making the switch to sony this new gen I wanted to get upto date on the consoles exclusives. So I got like 5-6 games then my same uncle goes and gets me a PS4 for christmas!

Overall though I would go with the PS3 as its got a wealth of games in its library, PS+ etc and seeing as you're already getting your "next gen experience" I think you'll be okay.

Buy a cheap PS3 and live off PS+ games. You will probably end up with a continous backlog of games without spending anything extra.

P.S. If you have PS+, you can also add PS4 PS+ games to your account via the PS Store website. Without needing to own a PS4, so if you plan on getting one someday, you will already have a decent library to start off with.

On the other hand, the price won't drop till next year, and I'm sure you'll like the PS4 games , especially exclusives, that are coming within months, or so I'm told. I say get a PS4 and then get a used ps3 for cheap on ebay or craigslist.

The BF bundle you mentioned has the super slim. Its not bad, just different than the others. The super slim has the most quiet fans and power efficient PSU than its predecessors. The biggest difference is that that the super slim uses a spring-loaded release button to expose the disc tray. Its not like the slim or original PS3 where its ejected with a touch-sensitive button and auto-fed by placing the disc through the slot. So its a bit of an annoyance with the super slim to press the button, place the game disc in, and cover the tray when you want to play a new game. Other than that, I wouldn't be worried about it.

PS3 for now.

There's just not really any must play games for PS4 yet IMO.  While the PS3 is cheap, has a huge library of great games, and a bunch you can play right away after getting a PS+ subscription.

So I'd go that route and get a PS4 in a year or two when more games are out and there are sales, bundles and maybe even a price drop.

I was in the same boat as you.  Xbox 360 person that got an Xbox One and I wanted to play Sony games as well.  I decided to go PS4 and hope that PS+ will bring some PS3 exclusive games to the PS4 or the Gaikai service will bring the entire PS3 library to the PS4.  I purchased the PS2 late in it's life and I didn't get to play it as much because the Xbox 360 came out a year later and after purchasing it I barely played the PS2.

Honestly, buying both an Xbox One and a PS4 at this point is kinda silly. They have almost all of the same games and very few exclusives. If you want to get two Generation 8 consoles right now it's better to go PS4/Wii U or Xbox One/Wii U. At least that way you get a greater variety since the Wii U is so different from the PS4/Xbox One.  (I went Wii U and PS4 myself. I don't want an Xbox One right now, but I'll probably end up getting it eventually just because I generally love video games. Hell, I even have an Atari Jaguar and Jaguar CD.)

Although, buying a PS3, 360 or Wii at this point is a great buy now that they're near the end of their respective life cycles. The consoles aren't that expensive, the games are really cheap and end-of-cycle games are usually the best any given system has to offer.
