If you don't like the open world aspect of Dark Souls 1 you should play Dark Souls 2. It's layout is more similar to the linear levels of Demon's Souls, at any given time there are at least 2 different paths you can take, but all of the paths are linear and go to different places. Fast travel is also unlocked from the start which cuts down on the time sink of backtracking. So if you get stuck on one sequence of levels you can warp out and play on a different path for awhile.

The Super Mario's and such may be better games, but the one I just fell in love with when I first locked eyes on it at a Sear's game demo station and I had to buy it immediately was the original Star Fox for SNES. I played that over and over for weeks.

Listening to the show now. Ben is good. Favorite retro game is Castle of Illusion on the Sega Genesis.

Thanks to Shipwreck's recommendation I signed up for Best Buy Gamer Unlocked. Great deal! My favorite retro game is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV Turtles in Time.

Battletoads painfully good.  I also have GCU from Best Buy my only problem with it is the tax.  That brings the price up so your discount can be around 11% depending on your tax rate.

Tecmo Super Bowl. I and 3 friends would play tournaments. I played the Chiefs. They would play the Bills, 49ers and the Raiders respectively. Christian Okoye and Derrick Thomas (may he rest in peace) 4life.

Great job holding it down guys, and great job Ben! Lots of good info in this episode. Definitely going to have to get in on that gamers club. Favorite retro game is mega man 2.

Ben sounded kinda scared when Ship got so exited about Gamers Club, but it was cool to see a guest on the show.

I was reminded never to eat while listening when I imagined Wombat dressing like this:

Favorite retro game: Pokemon Yellow

also, has anyone watched Vikings on History Channel??  How about the Strain on FX?  I enjoy both and am surprised to never hear anyone talk about them.

Hey CAG team,
I really enjoyed the show with Ben. The round robin discussion was quick and engaged me. Shipwreck even made the rare interjection "No more Destiny talk" which is the kind of forcefulness I would love to hear more in future shows. In fact, the stop and start nature of CAGcast was gone from this episode, and that I would love to see this carried on through future shows.
A comment about Destiny, I disagree with the panel greatly. The story, it is wide open because of how ambitious and non-linear the game is. How could you make a tight story and keep the game and interaction so open? Yesterday, I stumbled upon a battle where the party seemed to be in middle of a mission. I was able to come in and randomly help. It was fun! A tight story with definite walls would not allow this kind of game interaction.
The leveling up. I feel it takes intelligence to level up in Destiny. You really have to be smart and earn it. Most want to throw hours at a game and level up. It is almost like Destiny takes away the entitlement of this form of game hierarchy and that is the biggest complaint I hear.
Great show, keep it peppy, and Destiny has my attention for quite a while.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. My favorite retro game of all, some others pretty close but none as important to me then that one.

Good show.
I actually think that Amibos not being a requirement for games is great for consumers, if skylanders was more like Amibos than I might play the game. I don't feel like buying a game and being worried that I am not getting the full game without buying things I don't want.

My favorite reto game is Doom. I've bought it on everything I've owned, from the SNES to the Xbox 360.

That's my favorite too. And it just doesn't age. When the rain and thunder kicks in during the beginning, it's as impressive as anything in the current gen.

Another great show, I should add. Thanks for stepping up when Cheapy had to be gone for a bit. And it was nice hearing a guest on the show again. I'd love to hear Spicer on the show, or Justin McElroy again. That was a hilarious episode.

Do you guys recommend people buying the $350 XBone over the $450 1TB Call of Duty bundle that comes out next week?

How much do you like CoD? Personally I found the Sunset Overdrive bundle to be most appealing to me, but I also have no interest in CoD. The HD size is nice, but you can always buy a 2 TB external HD and use it for storage.

On a side note, my favorite retro game of all time is a tie between Super Metroid and A Link to the Past. Both games are flawless.

The game your daughter plays is Kirby Canvas Curse, Wombat.

I have Twitch open just about 24/7, and I can tell you that topless female streamers were never a thing. (Because I totally would've known about them.) Cleavage streams are a popular thing, but more on that in a bit. Topless male streams were quite common, on the other hand. A lot of (male) streamers would offer "when I hit x amount of subs I'll take my shirt off!" and that was an incentive for people for whatever reason. Of course, when they introduced the rule, they had to make it apply to everyone or otherwise it would've been a PR nightmare.

As I said, cleavage streams are huge (pun may be intended, you decide). You can go on Twitch at any time of the day and see dozens of them. And these new rules do nothing to stop that. Many people figured that these rules would put a stop to the cleavage streams, but I have seen many still going since the rules were put in place and no actions have been taken against the streamers. As you can imagine, these streams just rake in the viewers/subs and many people would like to see them end, but that is not going to happen anytime soon it seems.

Amiibos still sound incredibly pointless, but I don't own a Wii U so it doesn't matter.

The Best Buy thing does sound like a good deal... if you buy console games regularly. I only buy a handful of games a year and 99% of them are on PC (and these days that means Steam) so it wouldn't benefit me in any way.

Great episode even without Cheapppeeee. My favorite retro game is hard to say because there are so many, but NES and Genesis were my video game heyday. Contra, Mario Bros., TMNT, Road Rash, NHL 93, 94, 95, Earthworm Jim. So many games!

I wonder why people like that sort of thing. Maybe the viewers are young teens or something. Anyways my favorite retro game has to be Super Mario World.

Wombat, doing the raid in Destiny doesn't take anywhere close to 6 hours.  That first group took 10 hours because they were a little under-leveled and were going in completely blind.  My group has been finishing each week in about an hour or so and we aren't the best gamers in the world.

If you use your strange coins to buy an exotic piece of armor from the weekend merchant and use your marks to buy some legendary armor from the other merchants, you could probably get leveled high enough for some CAGs to carry you through some or all of the raid just so you could see it.

However, I challenge the idea that the stuff that happens in the raid is some of the best content in the game.  I think it's mostly just a bunch of convoluted nonsense.  I only do it for the raid gear, which is required to get to level 30.

I still have no idea what Amiibos will do, but I'll probably get one to live on my desk.

(One of my favorite retro games has to be Earthbound!)

Great podcast. I laughed out loud when you described the Best Buy employee's knowledge of their promos... I was listening to that podcast on the way home FROM Best Buy, where I had to tell them about the iPad trade-up program they offer (good deal if you have an old iPad), and I also told them about the COD upgrade program (since I guy next to me was turning in COD, which trades for much less without this promo).

I did get GCU, great deal.

That Retro magazine sounds cool, I really am curious about the Atari 2600 artwork story. Favorite retro game? A few...

Arcade: Sinistar, Tron

Atari 2600: Adventure, Superman (yes)

Magnavox Odyssey: Haunted House

I've been on a semi Retro buying binge, trying to get the SNES games I grew up with. Mainly alot of Disney based games like Aladdin, Lion King and Mickey games. But the Super Star Wars games definitely take the cake, number one being Super Return of the Jedi IMO.

Favorite retro game is Streets of Rage  (F-zero and also pro wrestling) [i couldn't just pick one]

Good show.  I do agree with Wombat on Sunset Overdrive,  I'm having problems trying to grind and shoot; which ended with me going around in circles.  I do wish that the character had a skate board, it would be nice if you could skate around and shoot while doing tricks.

Do you guys think Sunset Overdrive will be on PS4?

Great show! I would say my favorite retro game is either Splatterhouse 3 on Genesis, Sunset Riders on SNES, or Zombies ate My Neighbors

Wow, I knew Sunset Overdrive was pretty obnoxious from the commercials but how much? The CAGcast said a lot. I guess this is for the dudebros.

No shirts, no shoes, no service for Twitch, that seems sensible. Nobody wants to see a 30-something year old unhealthy man for extended periods of time. I mean, these are grown adults hosting these things, and why would you wanna be like some jerk little kid who wants to run around naked all day. Wear a Batman costume!

My favorite retro game is Final Fantasy VI on the SNES, though I have a soft spot for Tetris Attack.

I finished the story to Sunset Overdrive. The game is a ton of fun. The second half of the story missions are really funny and the female voice actor is hilarious.

Also, I was wrong about Evolve. It is a ton of fun when fighting the monster and playing as the monster. If you like the L4D PVP, you'll love this. Yes, it should have a story/level missions for people who don't like multiplayer. I'm playing on the XBOX One and the load times are

atrocious. A good 5 minutes to get into a match.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Sunset Overdrive comments: I watched a stream of it and I agree with Ship; I don't think the music is annoying at all. Like he said, it reminds me exactly of Tony Hawk games. And while I don't necessarily like that type of music, it doesn't bother me. Guess I'm just used to it from playing so much Tony Hawk/Skate or something.

Good episode!  I like guest hosts!  Spices things up from time to time.

My favorite RETRO game is Solar Jetman! Would love to see a remake of that.  Its also about time Sony dusted off Jet Moto!
