Yeah, I think we're near the end of the whole video game's with toy accessories craze.

Unikitty probably won't be hard to find. Lego loves her, the people love her. She has a bunch of different minifig flashlights based on her different variants (bizniz kitty, angry kitty, space kitty, etc). She's in a quite a few Lego Movie sets as well. If you asked about Wonder Woman a few years ago, I'd say she'd probably be difficult to find, but they've actually been supporting her lately. Gollum probably won't have as many units shipped as the rest of the sets, but I think the same will go for all of the LotR packs. I just don't think that's something kids will be super into, especially when they have Ninjago, Batman, and Lego Movie available.

Are these the next wave in the Skylander's/Disney Infinity/Amiibo craze?

Market is starting to get saturated but these look neat. They are figures correct? Not individual lego pieces you build?

Yeah, I think we're near the end of the whole video game's with toy accessories craze.
I'm not here to judge but I hope if people are buying these (that refers to any of the products above) they are doing so to either enjoy them or profit now. I feel very confident in saying the bottom will fall out and these will become the next beanie babies as most who are buying them are doing so to collect them (especially the rare ones) meaning they will all still be around 10-20 years from now crippling the market.

Yeah I know Unikitty is popular but I'm guessing that's why it might be the only real difficult one to find... Maybe Benny too? They do pump up their LEGO Movie stuff but UniKitty always goes fast...

As far as DC, I know they've put out a bunch of new Wonder Woman minifigs lately, so maybe you're right on that.. maybe Cyborg actually might be a rough one?

LOTR I don't think the kids care about, Back to the Future and Wizard of Oz I think are cool but again, not super relevant today... Ninjago has always been easily available and one of the first lines to go on clearance..

hahahha I understand, I don't think I care either but I'm not sure... and y'know, they don't charge until they ship !
I care very much but I refuse to do it yet again. At least until the base game drops to like $20 which may never happen because of all the LEGOs.

yeah amiibo / skylanders / disney infinity things but basically Lego Minifigures on a stand.

I agree the market is getting crazy saturated with these accessories, but LEGO is LEGO. The Pricepoint does kind of surprise me seeing that the LEGO games are like $20 maybe 2 months after they're released (not really but you know what I mean).

Looking at the individual boxes, it looks like you build each figure, which is actually pretty cool. I assume that also means they would detach from the base part, meaning they can be played with outside of the game as well, something you can't do with the other figures.

I think out of the three current figures, amiibo is the only one that can really be compared to beanie babies. Skylanders and Infinity don't really have any value. They're mass produced, unlike amiibo. Skylanders even gets a older figures reprinted with new packaging. It's safe to say anyone buying them is doing it to play with them or to collect them because they genuinely love the figures and like having them, but not to sell them. Yeah, a good amount of amiibo owners are buying them because they love the characters, but a lot more of them are buying to try and make a profit.

Even if the toy video game market bombs by November, and this Lego game bombs, the pieces will all be worth something. Lego just holds it's value like that.

I was going crazy on Skylander stuff, now I'm going crazy on Disney Infinity stuff. This is the last thing I need right now, more stuff to hoard and not use. :wall:
Exactly. These are awesome but I bought like $200-300 worth of 50-70% off LEGOs a month or so ago that we haven't even thought about opening. We'll just play with those and our giant backlog of Skylanders and Amiibos. Then I have the DI starter kit sitting around still and know my kid wants 2.0 for the super heroes.

I can't wait to buy this on clearance.
You can shit on the format of this type of game all you want, but you're forgetting about the power of LEGO.

Rabid Fans + Crazy licenses = as much of a guaranteed success as you can have.

Gimmicky, sure, but isn't there even a little piece of you that wants to play as Batman and drive the Deleroen around and go back in time in a game, or be fucking Gollum spazzing in the sky flying Wonder Woman's invisible jet?

I think the Lego games are for kids, but that kind of Roger Rabbit crossover craziness always gets me giddy.

The only big bummer is that Disney Infinity is already doing Marvel (and rightly so). I doubt Disney will let LEGO do any and spoiling LEGO dreams of a DC / Marvel Secret Wars style crossover...

I just want them to make a LEGO Back to the Future game. Not really interested in spending $100 for wanna be Skylanders device and another $30 for the BTTF toys.

They probably will do well because they are LEGO.

I think you misunderstand me. It doesn't matter if the game does well, or if it tanks. Regardless there is going to be a surplus of product.

Disney Infinity is doing just fine, but I still paid only $20 for a starter pack and as little as $5 for new figures.

Kind of interested to see what other films they do, but not $100 base game and $30 expansion interested.  I'll wait for reviews, availability and deals before I put any money down.

that's crazy! i may buy lego when it drop down $20 - $25 price range and fun packs $8 or less. skylanders now is dead for me, they released too many many junk and useless figures for trap team.

Those micro-build vehicles/accessories are pretty cool, LEGO should have been making those for years.  I've bought quite a few Target/TRU checkout-line "impulse" bags in the past, but they're usually just one normal small vehicle.  The Batmobile Tumbler was a happy exception.

Definitely interested as my son will probably love this but I'm going to wait for Black Friday and hope that there is an Infinity like sale like what happened with the Marvel Set. Hopefully this is more like Infinity and less like Amiibo in terms of the ability to actually find whatever character you're looking for.

The market is going to become flooded, less people will buy due to consumer confusion and the knowledge that new toys keep coming out. Pretty soon you will walk into a Best Buy and the Video Game section will all be toys.

Pretty excited for this game, but since I'm already in the process of collecting all of the Disney Infinity figures, I'm going to wait for a pretty good sale, most likely at BB so I can save another 20% with GCU.

Just hope that, as someone else mentioned in this thread, the figures won't be very hard to find.

man i'm so glad my kids are too old for toys, i'd go broke with all this amiibo/skylanders/lego shit

when i saw the first trailers for the game i thought cool, a new lego game with movie characters had no idea amiibo's were part of it, makes sense though they will make tons of money.  hope it drives amiibo sales to zero, fuck nintendo.

Lego is awesome......It's cool that the figures will have build-able things. I'm not sure of the game but I know i'm a sucker for minifigures and some of the sets.

I really don't think this, Infinity, or Skylanders will negatively impact Amiibo or their scarcity. With those games the collector section (from what I can tell) is far outweighed by the actual players. Skylanders are so big with kids, and there are so many of them, that they come out of the box in a lot of cases and just get used. Even the scarce stuff (Kaos trap and the Light/Dark set) that sells on eBay are probably going to parents who just want to buy it so their kids will shut up.

Infinity, especially with Marvel and Star Wars, may draw in more collectors, but those figurines all seem to have a ton of supply, so things don't stay too scarce for too long.

Amiibo obviously have people who use them, open them, and play with them, but I feel like the split between those who want to have them for Smash and those who just want a NIB collection is not nearly as pronounced as it is with Skylanders. Though most of those people have turned to importing, which puts the NA figurines at even more of a premium. The people buying them on eBay could just as easily be adults with a fondness for Nintendo and specific franchises. Add the limited stock to that, and I don't really see them slowing down until Nintendo floods with market with non-Smash waves, and even then the tougher Smash series figurines will still be hard to come across unless mass reprints happen.

I'm still waiting for confirmation that this game is going to include LEGO Simpsons characters/stages.
If so, I'm definitely picking it up! :D

So excited for this! Ordered the starter set and the Back to the Future pack on Best Buy with that sweet, sweet GCU.

Grabbed Wonder Woman, Unikitty, Emmet, and Gollum on Amazon; it sure would be nice if Best Buy decided to sell the minifigures too so I could move my order there and pick up the discount.

You've got to be fuck ing with me. A Lego videogame with Batman, Back to the Future, and Wizard of figures? Did the game developers use their inter-dimensional portal to ask my childhood to design the most ideal game? And then throw in awesome Lord of the Rings and Lego Movie stuff? I already need to move to a bigger house for all of these Skylanders, Disney Infinity figures, and Amiibo. I won't pay MSRP for this stuff even with GCU, but I'll buy ALL of this plastic junk as soon as it's on sale.

People are speculating that it will includes Simpsons and Ghost Busters as well as other licenses. This could end up being very cool.

Oh man, here I am trying to resist the Amiibo craze.  Might end up diving into the Lego Dimensions, especially if content can transfer to and from console families like game saves/unlocks.

Can't wait to start collecting these. I'm a HUGE fan of the Lego games. I've been collecting the Disney Infinity stuff, but the games have been kind of disappointing to me. I never got into Skylanders. I have a few of the Amiibo, but I only got them because I don't have any other Mario figures/Nintendo figures and thought it'd be cool to have a few.

It has Simpsons figures pictured on the top of the box. You can make out Bart pretty easily.

From thebrickfan.com:

The Simpsons

The Simpsons theme will definitely be in LEGO Dimensions as we can clearly see some of the characters on the top of the box like Homer, Bart, and Krusty.

Ole Kirk Christiansen is rolling in his grave.
hopefully onto a random LEGO piece that creates so much pain he comes back to life and dies again...

Seriously LEGO has so many licenses is there anything they won't do? Why would he hate this?

Edit: OK, I just read he died in 1958... he should hate his great grandson Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen

Wonder if they can get Star Wars stuff in here... that would really open the floodgates.

Darth Vader and Unikitty taking on the world!

Doubt it as I expect Disney to use Star Wars for Disney Infinity, same with Super Heroes and Princess LEGO lines.
