They had been set to be acquired by Hot Topic, though Gamestop decided to pony up a better deal:

Well, so much for ThinkGeek.

Kinda the same feeling I have about this news.

I just bought the awesome Mega Man Mega Buster replica from Think Geek as well!

So does this mean that gamestop will be closing down thinkgeek? Or will they just keep it going but it'll be owned by Gamestop? I never purchased anything from ThinkGeek, but I'd hate to see it go.

Their parent company is being bought by Gamestop, though they were in talks to be bought by Hot Topic.

I think it's more a shift of ownership than with anything else, though since this is Gamestop, anything is possible.

This sucks. It was my understanding that ThinkGeek just took control of the TreeHouseBrand stores (i.e. Bethesda Store, Bioware Store, Gearbox Store, PlayStation Gear Store (formerly Naughty Dog Store, etc.) and I was looking forward to that transition since overall my experiences with ThinkGeek have been great and they have a good reward system and are constantly doing buyer friendly promos.

With GameStop involved I expect the price of merchandise to rise and quality to drop. Only good thing I can see coming from this is points from ThinkGeek and related stores being transferable to GameStop and vice versa. Also means you might be able to buy more video game merchandise with your GS points / credit.

I think Think Geek will continue to operate as is, but Gamestop will definitely start carrying a lot more of their products in their stores now. I'm definitely glad Think Geek was bought by Gamestop and not Hot Topic though.

I doubt that. Gamestop stores barely have enough room as is for everything they're trying to sell (games, hardware, phones, tablet, etc.). How are they going to find more room for T-Shirts and other gaming merchandise?

As long as the website operates as normal and we get some ThinkGeek products in stores I don't see a problem. I frequent Gamestop more then Hot Topic anyways. In fact I haven't had the urge to enter a Hot Topic in years.

I can see myself impulse buying a Mega Man coffee mug or Mario Kart keychain while I browse. My only concern is prices.

GS doesn't sell tablets or phones in their stores anymore, just online. Those have been replaced by collectibles (Pop figures, statues, Tshirts, etc.)

Last time I was in a GS was to pick up Witcher 3 and I didn't notice. I never saw anyone in the tablet/phone section anyways. Sales must've been poor.
