EXPIRED

Amazon Prime Day is here...

Prime Day is a one-day shopping event on July 15, 2015, with more deals than Black Friday. Prime members can shop exclusive deals from electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more.

To access these deals, you are required to have an active Prime membership.

You can get your free trial today to get access to the deals and it is allowed to be cancelled before the trial period is over so you will not get charged.  Prime members get free 2-day shipping for free, and no minimum purchase to get free shipping.

If you have a student email account, I recommend getting Student Prime as it is cheaper yearly rate ($39 in case you want to keep the membership later on)

If you don't have a student email address, you can just sign-up for the regular Prime ($79 in case you want to keep the membership later on).

I will be posting all related video game deals here

Much appreciated dtrader69.

Is there any downside to registering for a Prime account the day of the sale? I'd like to see the deals first before going to the trouble to set it up.

I don't think there'll be a downside to registering for Prime the day of. I don't plan on wasting my free trial unless I actually see a deal I want to partake on. Even if by some chance they hide the deals from non-Prime members, we'll have dtrader69 telling us about them :)

I signed up today. It takes a minute. Not really much of an hassle (unless you don't have an account at Amazon).

I will try my best.  Do keep in mind some deals (I foresee) to be lightning deals which means limited quantities, so some deals you may have to act quickly on before the price jumps up to regular price.

I am hoping for a WiiU bundle deal for like $199

I'm hoping for some kind of PS4 deal. And maybe Bloodborne can drop back down to $40, or lower if possible.

If you are looking for Bloodborne for 40, try kijiji, I am sure you'll get it for that price.

Could we just sign up a new Amazon.ca account and do a two day prime membership trial?

Oh, and off-topic... pre-ordered the Final Fantasy VII - IX Collector Guide set, free shipping, released yesterday and had it at 10:20am today. :)  It's pretty.... at least in the package, I haven't decided if I'll open it yet. (http://www.amazon.ca...ailpage_o00_s00)

For regular PRIME trial, it's 1 month, not 2 days.

For Student PRIME trial, it's 6 months.

I never bothered with Prime, because my packages never take long to ship to me.

I had prime before not because of the 2-day shipping benefit, but for the Amazon Family benefit that nets me 20% off diapers for my kids.

I've always had fast shipping from Amazon as well, but have loved not having to hit the $25 minimum to get free shipping. Also, half the time I end up getting my stuff the very next day now. I was skeptical, but found it to be well worth the $80 after trying it out for a year. YMMV of course.

I can vouch for the Amazon student prime. I tried it for the 6 month trial period and I just let the membership carry over a few months ago. It's something like $40/year for free two-day shipping, which is still a good deal. Beats what the shipping would cost for BestBuy online, plus Amazon never charges PST, which is a bonus.

If anyone is one the fence, I'd say to try the trial and you'll enjoy it.

Does anyone know if this has been done in the past, or what kind of deals we can expect?

Living in Toronto, there's really no benefit for the 2-day shipping. As someone who moved form the US back in 2013, Amazon Prime in Canada is...disappointing. I honestly see no reason to buy-in until they start offering instant video and KU.

The Prime Day is a new thing so it has never been before.

But from what the description says, it should match up well with Black Friday deals.  How they did it during Black Friday is hourly LIGHTNING deals (i.e. limited quantity at a certain price)

In terms of what kind of deals, it is a super wide range from all categories.

Both Bestbuy and Amazon offer free shipping on orders over $25. Unless you happen to regularly want to buy a lot of $10 items separately there's little to no value on the free shipping.

No they charge PST all the time. There are a handful of exclusions that I think should be taxed, like books. Those are free of PST for some reason. But everything else is taxed appropriately. Annoyingly Amazon is even allowing marketplace sellers to charge taxes nowadays, with no way to see if they are till you hit that last step checking out.

"Match up well with Black Friday deals"

Black Friday was meh this year. Unless they have some amazing deals going down, I don't think I'll bother using up my free trial.

Majority of my orders I do on Amazon, always exceed $25. Honestly, I feel like it's a waste at the moment, until they decide to offer what Amazon Prime in the US has.

For sure. Over $90 (with QC tax) for faster shipping, free shipping for orders sub $25 is really not worth it. The free shipping gets here really fast (at least in Mtl). keep in mind that the cost of prime in the US is $99 (about $126 CAD), with QC tax that would close to $145. Having the streaming stuff still wouldn't be enough. The only way I would pay that much is if the selection of items on .ca would be on par to what .com offers.

I don't think .ca will offer or be on par with .com.

Maybe shipping here to SK is different? All the orders I've placed since 2014 have been PST-free (games, CDs, books, food, etc). Alberta is left off Amazon's PST page too.

Definitely agree on the lack of streaming though. That's a huge letdown. A combination of Netflix and pirate-related sites will have to do for now.

I just got the SJ4000, it has great reviews and fraction of the price, make sure you choose the BAIKLOV seller though because I heard there are fakes out there (re: https://www.reddit.c...een_estore009/)

Half decent reviews on Amazon... though even the five star ones list various issues... waterproof housing cracked on first use, software downloads/updates mess it up, low quality microphone compared to GoPro, and a few other things that bother me about that one.

I'd rather spend the extra to have the support of GoPro behind it. Plus it's much sexier looking :)
