I made a similar thread a few months ago in the deals forum but feel this one might be more help to me. I am not a student btw.
Looking to get a laptop (and eventually build a desktop) to replace my 7 year old Vista laptop. Only really used for last 5 years. Ideally I'd like to get one as soon as possible ie by mid September, but just wondering if I should wait until Black Friday. I've never really been "comfortable" using computers despite being a math/logic person and wanting aspects that a poweruser would
Price and "power" are my main concerns. I'm hoping to not spend more than $500 net. Something that will likely drop price in 2-3months might be good if I am able to get my AMEX, Capital One, Chase, or DIscover card to adjust.
By power, I guess I mean processor, ram, and battery usage. I'd obviously like a quadcore 3ghz processor, but if I dealt with dated computers most of my life I can just get something decent until desktop. Laptop is a dual core 4gb ram btw. cpu almost always high 90s -_-. could never get Windows updates to intstall properly. I want to be able have over a dozen browser tabs open including one playing hd video, several Excel workbooks open, media player running, a chat client, and maybe even recording software and a game all at once. would like it to last 90min+ on charge and have minor heating issues.
As long as I can run most "last gen" games at settings that are superior to the console versions, I'm fine. Wouldnt' hurt if I can also be able to program/run code and have a few math/stat applications. having sImple video editing even if Windows Movie Maker not kill cpu would be great.
15-17in nonshit res okay. basic opticial drive is fine. No bluetooth. hdmi would be nice. at least 3 usb and media reader.
not looking for Mac, Chromebook, or tablet hybrid.
